Full Version: Why was Maya considered a main cast member?

So, we all know that she was introduced in season 2 and given a fairly large story line that pretty much went no where. Season 3, we were expected to believe that she was going somewhere. She was advertised as one of the main cast members in promotions (and credits)... But as we've seen to the extent of volume 3, she was pretty much NO WHERE to be seen for a large majority of it. Even a lot of the guest stars received much more air time than she did.

Was this the plan for her character all along? Just... drop her off in New Jersey and that's it? She no longer has powers so I guess we'll have to see what she can do in volume 4.

The writers strike killed Maya's story. She was going to be the Hero that helped get rid of the Shanti virus and save everyone.

When the strike happened it crushed the second half of season two. Unfortunately the writers weren't creative enough to come up with at least a coherent story for her, so they made her a sex toy for about two episodes then took away her powers and wrote her off.

I feel super bad for Dania Ramirez with that whole mess.

people complain that she is around and now people want to complain she wasn't on the screen more - no wonder the writers don't know what to do, because the fans don't know what they want.

for me, her story was that of someone who had an ability that didn't want that ability. so what happens, she journeys to NYC and along the way meets people she can and cannot trust, which is cool. So she finally has her ability removed, so what use is she to everyone elses story (hmm sounds like the argument for getting rid of her in the first place).

I thought that she was a great actress that served her role and now we just have to move on. cool with me...

There's a slight problem with that.

They made her a main character. We were expecting a bit more from someone who's supposed to be one of the central characters for the season.

This topic is regarding why she was considered a main cast member and if they were possibily considering doing more with her, not about wanting her to have more screen time. Also, why would ANYONE ever expect millions of fans to have the exact same sentiments about a show? We're all different. We all have varying opinions that will never completely match up.

And any writer who caters SOLELY to the fans is a bad writer. You can never make everyone happy.

Perhaps she will play a bigger role in Fugitives? Considering that the government might have a record of her abilities & thus track her down.. when in reality, she doesn't have it any more.

Well, she's still around and kicking and Mohinder seems intent on pursuing her so maybe she's not over with. Maybe she's the character trade-off for giving Mohinder powers. She lost hers, Mohinder gained his, maybe there's more to be seen of Maya.

Volume 3 was originally part of Season 2 (as Volume 4). Was Maya a main cast member last season? She should have been, based on the original Volume 3 (confused yet?) If so, it may just be a hold-over, of no future significance.

She is gone and thats it. Unfortunately after the writers strike occured and her storyline as also the original volume 3 called exodus got cut, her storylined died.
However.. they were really able to do something with the character since dania still had her regular status contract and give her something good to do. It seems they weren't creative enough to do so and to keep her power away from peter and sylar they just gave it arthur which died and took it with him while letting maya just go away.

According to what we know so far we will never see her again cause she is written off already.
The only reason why she still has the regular status is because of her contract.
Really sad and uncreative in the writers and producers part but it is unfortunately this way. :/

I'm really happy that they at least let the character alive and send her away to find the peace she deserved instead of just kill her only because some fans wanted her dead the whole time with arguments "she stole screen time" or "she took screen time that could had been spend on sylar in season 2"(****** I know...).

According to what we had read before she were supposed to have scenes with seth and brekin helping her after the cocoon stuff with mohinder. Obviously they took out this part as well.

In the web istory she were supposed to be a kill squad target which fortunately failed since they went to the old appartment.

Not everyone complained that she was around and if you go under the character section and check the topic "why everyone hates maya" you will see that there were more people who wanted her to stay and do something than you would think off.

As about the title of the topic:
The same question could had been asked about nikki in season 2. :/

I assume she signed a contract last season that made her a main character credit. The writers strike may have undone her story, but it couldn't undo her contract.

I can't complain.

I am VERY happy that she got next to NO screen time.
Mo's story line was f'ed up enough this season. XD

Yea, who cares about at least trying to show some creativity and give another character other then Sylar, Claire, and Peter a meaty storyline. rolleyes.gif

There were many, many, many possibilities with Maya's character and they squandered every single one of them.

Massive Maya fan here! Well with the Shanti Virus plot solved untimely Maya’s story in that regards was unfulfilled. But I had hope that they would have Maya go after Sylar and get revenge because Dania said it would happen, quite firmly in fact. I guess along the way the writers changed their minds (Elle/Sylar focused instead, as Kbell was available)

I’ve said it before but I think Dania has been treated appallingly for a regular. I just hope that as she’s still on contract they’ll bring her back and give her story full resolution. I’d like to see her get retribution for what happened to her.

I can see her as a candidate for being on the team that is rounding up people with abilities. They are probably wanting to keep a lid on the subject of "special people," and tell as few people as possible. She already knows, so no big deal there.

She has had nothing but negative experiences with powers and people who have them, so I would say she has a strong motive to join the effort.

She is one of the few characters who's stories could logically lead them to taking a hardcore "zero tolerance" approach to people with powers, and people who seek to acquire abilities.
