I have to admit at first, I didnt understand..

but now we have a proper villain!

why is Nathan doing all this? There isnt a real clear cut explanation to that at all.

and thats what makes it so intriguing!
Danxcore
its basically a Hero holocaust hes doing
basically it seems that Nathan thinks that if you have a power you will be dangerous to the world
and you need to go away for a longggg time
Blond Guy
He saw was Samedi did in Haiti and thought that everyone should have powers so they can fight back. After that failed experiment he realised no one should have powers at all.

IF the others want to stop Nathan, they should out him. Tell the world he has a power too. Have Parkman mentally command him to fly to prove the point.
Shizniddle Snap
Good idea. The problem now is getting close enough to do it.

That wouldn't really solve anything. People would just see Nathan as a threat as well.

acutually the best way to stop him is to quote GOD from Evan Almighty, 1 act of random Kindness. The heroes need to start giving people a reason to connect with them, like how D.L. will be remembered by his firefighter friends and that girl who he saved. Unless they start doing good in the eye of the public they will never gain the public's trust.

Good point. But it means they'd have to reveal themselves. But they can't do it, can they? Although giving it a second though they can. Hehe, they need to start their own Justice Leauge. So than they could state that they are the Heroes. And the guys who fight against them are villains. And the world goes mad...

The thing is many of them don't want to be nor heroes neither spacial. They just want to live normal life. They didn't ask to be special. And now they have to suffer just because they were born that way.

Although I can't really blame Nathan. All these people with abilities are dangerous, aren't they? Look at Peter. Nathan knows his little brother, he knows that his heart is in the right place, he's a good man and etc. etc... And still Peter has always been a huse problem. He's done a lot of damage. Nathan knows that as well. I mean how can he trust other special people even if he even can't trust his brother?

What's Nathan doing? He defends ordinary people like us. whistling.gif

I know, right? Finally a villian whose motives I can understand! I like how conflicted Nathan is about the whole thing. I love it.
Helix83
Not all people with abilities can be considered dangerous, especially if they have control over their abilities (even if those abilities are relatively passive) and live regular lives. It just seems like Nathan wants to round up all the ones whose powers are considered dangerous like Peter, Matt, Tracy, Hiro (even though he has no powers), etc.

The ones below (including Nathan) are ones whose abilities pose no actual threat:

Angela Petrelli - Precognitive Dreaming
Nathan Petrelli - Flight
Claire Bennet - Fast-Healing Factor
Monica Dawson - Adoptive Muscle Mimicry

He sure looked like he posed a threat to people who are not invulnerable when he smashed Samedi into a car.
Helix83
That was probably the first time he used his power against some one instead of the usual transportation/fight-or-flight manner.

But to quote Sylar (while posing as Nathan), "I can fly. I'm hardly dangerous."
GoldSeven
I agree - every power can be dangerous. Ask Brody!

I also agree that Nathan is a "villain" you just love to hate! He still thinks he's doing this for all the right reasons. It's similar to what he did in season one, and I really, really wonder how this will end for him.
wolfbro
The best villains always have a motive or motives that are at least understandable to the audience, maybe even a motive they are sympathetic towards.

When done well, the audience is to some extent rooting for the villain. Or another way to put it, "His" idea isn't inherently bad, just the method "he" is using to implement "his" solution to the perceived problem. Toss in some obvious conflict of interest and you've got a good recipe for an entertaining story.
godiva
I think I can understand Nathan's motives.

The one I don't understand though, is Angela. What's in this for her? She does not have Nathan's selective conscience or ability to rationalize this behavior. She isn't concerned with doing what is "best for mankind". She herself is a "special". She is not invincible or immortal. She is power hungry, but she has to know that her ability is not enough to control the world. Not sure what her motives are for rounding up the specials.
MagnificoG
I assumed Angela's motive is self-serving. She agrees to provide Nathan with Primatech files and lessons in exchange for immunity. He does seem to be going out of his way to protect his family. Even Peter, who is clearly dangerous to Nathan, was given several chances to avoid bag & tagage.
GoldSeven
Add the fact that Angela has put Nathan first before, and that Angela does think Peter could be a danger. I still think it took some persuading to have her join Nathan (if she is indeed firmly on his side, which I'm not convinced of - she didn't go out of her way to stop Claire from messing up the bagging&tagging of Peter and Matt. I think she trusts Nathan that Peter won't come to any harm; he's been kept prisoner before, to keep him out of harm's way (harming himself or others), and she might have known that too.
godiva
I guess I see Angela as persuading Nathan of the necessity of rounding up the specials - not the other way around.

He's doing it because his character is not very bright and is easily scared. Like Parkman, he has never made a semi-intelligent decision throughout the whole series.

Ya I like Nathan like this. Just like 1st season.

I remember what heroes said. "you act like you don't care about anything but you care to much"
FlyingGirl
For the first time since series one I'm yelling at Nathan and saying "You're a git and you don't deserve such a cool power."

I see this as a success in terms of his character
