"Bearing Two-Four-Five at Nine-Eight. Off Walnut Ridge Vortac"
I'm not a pilot, so I can't say for certain exactly where they crashed, but I can say it is somewhere North-West of Nashville TN and South-west of Louisville KY.
If Nine-Eight stands for miles, or kilometers they should be in Missouri somewhere near the Illinois/Tennesse/Arkansas/Kentucky boarders. I can't be certain on that though.
Now the question is... where were they taking them?
My guess would be within the United States somewhere. Really, they should be taken to Antarctica or something. Never the less, based on their departure from NYC and the crash. Then looking at flight paths, my guess is they were en route to somewhere in the Roswell New Mexico to El Paso Texas areas.
Interestingly... Odessa isn't that far from El Paso... Perhaps Primatech Paper in TX has been apportioned by the Government...

i may need to rewatch the episode, but i swear when ando brought hiro's tracking device up on the computer in their "lair" it showed him in north africa. that was of course before the plane took off, so either way we'll need a pilot-type to pinpoint their location if we want to know before next monday.

Roswell? Maybe the government's been abducting specials for decades and is just stringing Nathan along for the time being.

Yea I noticed that too. Definitely Africa. If they end up crashed anywhere else I would find it rather odd, they weren't in the air that long I didn't think...
When they were crashing weren't there trees (pine tree like) on the ground. My son insists they were trees but I was thinking water (Mediterranean). I'll need to go and re-watch again.

Go watch the Sprint preview clip of next weeks episode at the CBS website. They crashed in Arkansas.

In a spoiler for next episode, you see Ando asking for a plane for Arkansas. I guess that's around where the plane crashed, then, since Ando figured where the plane crashed thanks to Hiro's tracking device.

That would make sense, though I do find it odd they rounded up a bunch of people in NY... and then Hiro in Japan... (high priority I guess). Hiro just felt REALLY out of place given the circumstances.
And
Arkansas fits in the area I described, mostly because that is where Vortac Walnut Ridge is located, they'rejust more south-west. Since the border is only 60 KM from Walnut Ridge, I had taken the 98 to indicate some kind of distance, but it must mean something else.
I just took a look at google maps... They're probably somewhere around:
Rector, AR
Hooker, AR
Knob, AR
or the best of them all...

That's what I thought. It was night in Japan when Hiro was captured and then it was night in the USA when he was put on the plane. That's about a 24 hour time inbetween to get from point A to point B. Makes sense.
The only slightly off thing is that the plane managed to get to
AK from NY in the short amount of time they were in the air, but that's TV for ya

Seriously though, I''m not nitpicking.

Did they even say where the plane took off from? I got the hint that it wasn't in New York.

Thinking about the Midwest and such, I think abandoned missile silos and such, many which are large enough, deep enough, sturdy enough, and off the map enough for one to be turned into a facility to house "Dangerous" people with powers. Just a guess.

Why was Hiro shown to be in North Africa, then?

Feb 7 2009, 05:20 AM
Well, actually, Usutu also has a tracking device... even if he's dead! lol
More seriously, thought: Hiro couldn't teleport himself from Japan to Arkansas anymore! He doesn't have this power. Which means if he has to go this far, he must pass throught half the world, which may include North Africa.
In other words, the plane was over Africa when Ando tracked Hiro!

Let's put it down to a screensaver setting of Hiro's! Otherwise he would have moved from the Tokyo den to North Africa in the time Ando took to drive back (unless Ando drove for over 8 hours to find some chicks)!
Also the airport shown on Hiro's computer is probably still in Japan, although with the flashing Hiro tracker they do imply that it is where Hiro was loaded onto the plane with the others (again, could be Ando took almost a day to get back to the den - or a day to crack the password!).

He was on his way to the U.S. to be put on ze plane. It was night time in Tokyo when he got captured and it was night time in the U.S. when the plane took off, that's 24 hours to get from point A to point B.

Those don't look like pine trees. It looks like they're flying over a savanah. Anyone notice the fireworks going off as Claires car left the hangar?

Here's the crash scene with a negative contrast. You can see the trees are not pines.
Also the trees are rather sparse so this isn't a forest, but more like a savanna. There were also a lot of dark patches on the way in that could be water or just rock. And no Wendy's in sight.

Just a production thing. Beeman explained it was Halloween when they shot the scene, and those fireworks were the residents celebrating.

Er..no?
I'm going on what the pilot said before they went down, "Bearing Two-Four-Five at Nine-Eight. Off Walnut Ridge Vortac". So I'm guessing they crashed in a sparsely covered area in
Arkansas. Plenty of possibilities north and south of Walnut Ridge.

I think FM is just pointing out the environment so we can compare it to what we see in the next episode.
