I actually thought that too and wondered if it was his BDay or something. Or a date that is important to him.

How does 7957 translate into a birthday?
delusions_of_grandeur
Feb 23 2009, 07:22 PM
Nice catch.. if that combo happens to be HRG's birthday.

People often use dates of importance as their lock combo, so having that number be his birth date would make a lot of sense to me.
And 7957 could either be July 9, 1957, or September 7, 1957.

From and including: Tuesday, July 9, 1957
To, but not including : Monday, May 7, 1979

I'm thinking these were just arbitrary numbers for the lock. If there was significance to why they are what they are, I doubt it'll come up on the show again. Plus, Noah's license placed his birthday in 1962. I wouldn't really like it if birthday's keep getting switched around. Makes things confusing.

i highly doubt someone of his background would fall into the faux pas of using something like a birthday for an important combination. but then again, this is tv, and hiro's password was ando.

My guess is either the number of days he worked for the Company (which would be relevant considering what's inside the room), or he just picked a random number between 0000 and 9999 and memorized it. It's one thing for Hiro's Andocave password to be Ando, but HRG is a pro.

Yeah, but if you reverse 7957, you get the year 97. Noah is not 11 going on 12. Even if you take it as 79, he's not 29 going on 30.

I think the numbers were focussed on because of their importance as well, but I think that importance was just Matt's proof to Mohinder that the information he was getting was real and pertinent, not just Noah feeding them falsifications.

It's a neat easter egg. In the show, it's just a random number. Outside the show, it's a tribute to the writer. It happens all the time in shows, cartoons and such.

well, just cuz it's kring's bday doesn't mean that the number can't have more significance in the story. i don't think it's gonna be a big deal if it is special, though. honestly, i'm surprised that bennett would store this stuff behind a simple padlock that could be taken out easily and even bruteforced.

Yeah that's cool that they use the little trivial things to reference things in real life but I like shows that use those things to reference stuff from the show, like they could have used the year Hiro went to historical Japan. Sure they have no relation but I guess I should know the whole cast and crew, their birth dates, their spouses names, the car they drive, and their pets names to catch all the little cookies.

You mean like the license number of Kaito's limousine back in season one?
What I'd expect at this point is that the number would have no actual importance to anyone in the show, but it'll keep popping up all over the place anyway, like THX-1138 in everything George Lucas does, or CRM-114 for Kubrick (and as Linderman's catalog number for the Kensei sword), or the phrase "See You Next Wednesday" for John Landis.
"Heroes" has its spiral symbol, with a bunch of unrelated explanations, and the fact is that none of the explanations
has to make any sense or be connected to the others. It's just a little wink in the direction of the audience.
