I've been thinking about something the past few weeks as we've learned more about Sylar's parentage that I just haven't been able to figure out. We now know that Martin Gray was Sylar's adoptive father and uncle and we've known for two years that he was a watchmaker. But what bugs me the most is that back in the season 1 episode "Six Months Ago" Sylar worked at a shop called Gray and Sons. At the time I assumed that he joined up with his father to work at the same shop he did but now we know that Martin Gray left the family at some point.

So my question is do you all think Sylar opened up Gray and Sons (as well as being a watchmaker) on his own as a way to feel a connection to a father who abandoned him? I'm leaning towards this because with everything we've learned about Sylar this season it does make sense to me.

No, I think that Sylar's dad opened it under the name Gray & Sons and let Gabriel manage it, because that's the simplest and most logical answer.

Unfortunately, that question will probably go unanswered.

Perhaps grandpa gray opened it with his two kids, and then one ran off to become a taxidermist?

Possible. But it seemed like Sylar hadn't seen Martin in years when he saw him. There'd have to be some contact if he had left the shop to Gabriel.

That makes the most sense. & I got the feeling that Sylar's adoptive dad left when Sylar was about l0 or so ..just a feeling

Or his Mother kept it open and forced him to work there!
