I HATE HATE HATE HATE that they gave Sylar yet another power.
What is the freakin' point of keeping him on the show if they keep writing him as an unstoppable force?! If only the scene with them zipping Sylar up into a body bag was true!

He truly is the only character I hate on this show at this point.

I feel the exact same way. With the exception of the Claire/Nathan scenes, this episode was absolutely boring. Way to take the good momentum from last weeks episode and completely run it into a brick wall.

..so Sylar..over power
I wonder if the writers will depower him like Pete and with this shapeshifting power
he is pretty much unstopable...

This is crazy, absolutely no one can stop Sylar now and Poor HRG thinks Sylar is dead. They are definitely going to have to give Peter his empathic mimicry back for sure. The end of the episode wasn't that great.
LOL @ Claire throwing back the Tequila though!

Well just like they added the shape shifter they may do the same for Peter who knows. but I agree they are making Sylar more of a beast. Now with shape shifting skills and Danko on his side for the time being, he's gonna be collecting powers like no tomorrow.

Sylar needs to die that is all. He didn't bother me as much this episode but he is way to powerful and it needs to stop

I really didn't like how stupid and weak they made Danko seem. The only thing he managed to do was shoot the shapeshifter, every other time he seemed confused and like he had no idea what he was doing, which, given what we know about him, I don't really buy. It just seemed like another way to prop Sylar up

okay,i agree the sylar/superman effect has left me cold.these episodes are the ones that let down after the strong performance of last week i was looking forward to another good one but this was a bit stuck in the macho vs macho crapola that doesn't grab me.

Preach on!! Him being alive without them explaining it is bad enough but the story of him and what kind of power does he have that we dont know about. Looks like Hiro's teleport power or something?
He just needs to go. The story line of the others is way more interesting.

With Sylar's acquisition of shape changing, the writers have more or less confirmed that Sylar is on the road to taking Nathan's place, like he did in the 5 YG future. This is just too coincidental to have it not be what happens. Writers have said a lot of events from the 5 YG future will happen starting this season, so we know what character death is going to stick YET Adrian Pasdar will still be on the show. What a cop out.

For the first time since Heroes started, I think we've gotten a filler episode. Seriously, Sylar got Shapeshifting and the other characters that happened to be included were just talking. After last week, it feels like hitting a brick wall at 80mph.

After Ollie Grigsby's Ep and then Bryan Fuller's BRILLIANT Ep..this was a letdown..lots of talking ..boring at times..Claire and Nathan? meh. ..even Angela and Peter didn't grab me emotionally..I enjoy humor, visually exciting moments, action, and the pull of my emotions ..this had none of that ..very disappointed by Pokaski's ep. (altho Sylar/Danko & the music were great ..) ok... after reading "Beaming Beeman's Blog" I now understand Mr. Pokaski's time constraints plus a first time Director on Heroes show.

The only thing I found weird was Sylar's teleporting or whatever it was. Sylar has always been quick and silent but we've never seen him move so quickly and so silently before. I guess it goes back to how he killed the woman with super hearing without her hearing him, but it's still strange.
Other than that, I thought it was a very well done episode that resolved emotional questions between father and daughter and mother and son. And I like that right now the odds seem stacked against the Heroes with Sylar joining Danko's ranks.

It seemed odd that Sylar could project his image into the car with Danko, which aside from teleporting is the likely way he had that conversation. wierd.

ok so upon watchin the episode in it's entirety, I have to say that though it wasn't bad per say, its just didn't live up to last weeks episode. Now I'm not saying that they need a big power display, or revelation or anything, but the awesomeness that was Cold Snap overshadowed what we got this week. Maybe last weeks episode was too great for it's own good, because as someone else said, this was just kinda a letdown... We got all the stamina, and now it really is like they just hit a wall.
There was nothing about the episode that I absolutely loved, and I found all of the stories a bit boring at parts (maybe with the exception of Angela/Peter.) I think that there was too much drama in one episode, and the whole thing was on one level... Like there wasn't really a climax... I'm trying to put into words the way I feel and blah comes to mind. Everything was kind of Dramatic and though it was nice to see and the characterization was there, I just feel like they needed to add something more. It got a little boring for me. It was missing that something to make the episode pop.
The Sylar/Danko thing... I guess if you want the 5YG future than you'll be happy, but I'm not really all for Nathan being dead but seeing him anyways. Its pointless. If Nathan is alive than I'm happy, but if he's dead I don't want to see his face... lol. It's kind of a copout. Also, I just want Sylar dead. I've been fair and I've found the positives of the character, I really have grown to be okay with him this volume, but he's just so old to me. I mean, the whole idea of Sylar using people and being the big evil mastermind is so outdated and so contrived that it leaves me not caring. I just don't care what he does next and he's the only character that I can say that about. I don't care if he dies because I know that it probably won't stick, I don't care if he kills people because that's what he does, I've seen it before, and that's what he's going to keep doing, and I don't care that he has a backstory, because he's still a psychopathic killer. The impact will be greater when he's dead. That's all there is to it.
Alrighty, I think that's about it. This was probably my least favorite episode of the volume and I agree that maybe the word filler best describes it. I'm off to the positive thread to throw in my 2 cents there.
EDIT:: I give the Episode a 3/10. Generous I know, but I'm in a good mood this afternoon lol.

I agree this ep was alot slower and progressed much less in an hours time, but seriously, why is it 1/2 of the viewers say "Slower, more character driven" but when we get a show full of that, people complain that it was "just a filler ep" or "a let down after last week". I'm starting to think people don't even remember season 1, or know what they want anymore. But, I'm not worried, because out of all of us here, no one can really effect Heroes one way or the other, lol, cause none of our TVs have neilson boxes.
*Only serious gripe- They really need to get Hayden to stop wearing wigs, they had a great opportunity with her and nathans midflight haircut, why not just keep cutting it until she doesnt have to wear a wig?
ps. she still looked smokin' hot, but i really want the wigs to stop.
Brennan
Mar 31 2009, 09:51 AM
she did look Hot... Usually I think cute, but this epi I can actually use the word Hot! lol
And as far as the Dramatic thing goes, for me at least, I would have loved it, but there was nothing to break it up. there was no big displays of powers, no scene that made me start cracking up, and very little action (yea there was a chase that we already knew the ending to and then the club scene, but even that was anti climactic.)
In season one, we got a range of generas, ranging from Drama, to Action, to Comedy and back again. This episode was kind of one noted though, and I was kind of Drama'd out by the end of it all. I just needed one scene to pop out and say "this something else" and I would have been content, but since there wasn't one, I found myself a bit bored. It was kind of like watching a soap opera, which I pretty much despise.

I can kind of understand that, if it wasn't for my love of Sylars character, I might have been pretty bored too, but that ending made me giddy. I guess people that don't like Sylar and Danko, and who arn't liking how things are moving toward 5yg, might have been a little "meh" about the ending, but for me it was like a goofy, crazy payoff after all the drama in the ep. To be fair though, the slowness and drama of this ep really reminded me of S1, where we wern't guaranteed any big action, and when we got it it was like christmas. I just chalked this episode up to "setting up the next big one" and took its slow pace with a grain of salt.

I'm over Sylar. Other than that it was a solid set up ep., especially when you consider it was written on the fly, due to production issues, according to Beeman.

boring .. i think it was the worst episode this season.
Peter is getting on my nerves as a 1 power sponge, i was hoping his spiritual awakening would bring back his powers or that something exciting was happening.
i mean his entire storyline was about getting his mother to sleep ... literal yawn.
clair and nathan ... and entire episode on how to get drunk and look stupid.
and god sylar ... yea although i enjoy his story lines now that peter is de-powered they feel 1 sided.
when both were acquiring powers i could accept it but now.
for the first time ever i actually regretted watching ... i was 50/50 in between watching heroes or Lord of the rings: return of the king ... i should have watched LOTR.

Can't say I'm too keen on this idea of fewer stories, just feels odd that in some episodes we aren't seeing certain characters. For example last episode Hiro and Ando were hilarious and there was no Mohinder and Matt.

Looks like they've decided to actually cancel Heroes and begin Sylar's Adventures. Can we PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stop this crap? This season was doing so well until this episode.
The writers of this show have made Sylar into the be all end all character of the show. Now they've given him shapeshifting. Great. You've neutered the only character that EVER had a chance to beat him. And they just keep making Sylar more and more powerful. To what end? So you can finally call it quits and give Zach his own show? So you actually have to write in Superman to stop him?
I am tired of Sylar. Danko was doing great as the villain of this season. But no, the fanatics and cult followers of Sylar had to have their bottle. I nearly stopped watching this episode when I realized it was going to be Sylar heavy and he was helping to hunt the shapeshifter. I'm glad I didn't because I would've missed Peter and Angela in the church and Claire with Nathan. And see that HRG is still one of the good guys.
As to the whole pain thing as a weakness to the power? Please. He'll have that worked out next week. The whole, now we can more towards the "Five Years Gone" future? Nope. Peter has no way to fight him now thanks to those great geniuses from Chapter 3. Future Hiro? HA! Don't make me laugh. No one is allowed to be tougher than Sylar. Those of us that are fans of other characters, the ones that make up the guest stars on the show since there is only one star of the show, may as well get ready to pack it in. They've finally figured it's time to throw in the towel on the rest of the cast and make the show about Wolverine, er Sylar. It's been a good ride. I've enjoyed it. But I think it's on a down hill slope with no brakes now.

I agree... and even when they did kill Sylar, he always comes back. We need new villians and more confrontations. At least, have Peter kick the crap out of Sylar and maybe just not focus on him so much.

Yeah i agree the whole sylar taking powers thing is really getting old. Then they take away hiro's time travel when they already had not really want to use it anymore and they totally depower peter. Yet the keep letting sylar get more and more powers what a rip off and they wonder why the ratings are going down the drain. i think the writers just dont get people have other character they like more. and dont get why they are sticking with the whole 5YG story build up when it was already diverted in season 1.

For me - worst episode ever. And as everyone else has been saying - a complete disappointment after last week's awesome episode, Cold Snap.
I appreciate how they were trying to do some you know, intimate personal drama here between Claire and Nathan, Peter and Angela, but for me, they flopped. None of their interactions were gripping or inspirational, and I'm pretty convinced it's not the delivery that was the problem, given that all these actors have given stellar performances in episodes past, so I definitely am pointing at the episode imagination-construction-script-plot for this one.
Claire and Nathan - all bland except Claire throwing back on the shots and Nathan drunkenly expressing his best intentions, which he later undermined by copping out, and then made EVEN WORSE (didn't think that was even possible) by the lame comeback. Claire's sudden lapse into the "You're the superman father I never could imagine I had" seems ridiculous given the consistent disdain she's shown him all through the show to this point - Nathan's desire to win her over was much more convncing. And while it makes sense that Nathan would not suddenly change his mind so easily, therefore needing to undergo some kind of transformative event/process, that event/process doesn't have to be (and I would argue SHOULDN'T be) this aggravating want-in, then want-out, then want back in again sequence that just makes you lose all faith in Nathan. The writers would've done much better giving us more insight into his thoughts behind the program in the first place.
Peter and Angela - ok, some saving grace in the Peter taking care of Angela moments and the Peter prayer moment, but the post-prayer and pre-prayer action was very dull and circular, and I'm not even convinced that either Peter, Angela, or their relationship as a whole are in different/better places right now. They all stagnated - Peter is still angry and lost, Angela is still defeated, their relationship is still estranged. This situation had better be part of a decent larger story arc in order to redeem itself.
Only Sylar and Danko's interaction had notable direction, though it did seem to fudge on the consistency. Why would Danko let Sylar become even more of a monster than he already thinks he is?! Is his desire to get everyone else with abilities > than his hatred for those with abilities on which his desire is based?! That doesn't quite make sense does it! There's no way he could kid himself that he would have this situation under control - no one controls Sylar now, not even his parents or those who claim to be. But I guess he doesn't know that. Good luck, Danko.

My only gripe with the episode is that Nathan and Claire seemed to stop on the way to Mexico for bad haircuts and a pair of tacky sunglasses.
And Nathan doesn't really seem THAT worried that he gave his operation over to a psycho who plans to kill all the powered people. He was just like "yeah I'm gonna fix it". I just don't feel like he's really taking responsibility for what he's done.
