Here's my problem with Danko: What has he shown us that's deserving of "The Hunter" title, or the fear and awe attributed him? Capture Mohinder-FAIL, Keep custody of Claire-FAIL, Capture Peter in your own home-FAIL, Hold your own in a conversation with Angela-FAIL, Capture Sylar in your own car-FAIL. Capture Jim Martin in Building 26-FAIL. Danko blows. HRG rules!
I totally agree! Danko is a fake and knows it. HRG is the real deal but his loyalties are elsewhere and always will be. HRG is strong because he admits to his failings and tries his best to make up for them. Danko covers up his mistakes (the civilian casualties Angela called him on) and likes to take credit for the work of others. It's these weaknesses, the false pride, that make Danko interesting to me, and to HRG and Sylar too, I'm sure.
I thought HRG's advice to Danko about exploiting a partner was great advice but a total irony, considering HRG told Danko how he was playing him. Sylar has learned from the best, HRG, Angela, Arthur, you name it- and has a whole lot more practice at exploiting other peoples' weaknesses than Danko- and isn't that Danko's biggest problem right now? Sylar already figured out that Danko wants to take credit for his results. Who didn't laugh a little at Danko waving his knife and gun around threatening Sylar's 'weakness'? And what happened to Danko's all powerful knife? It ended up a permanent fixture in somebody else's corpse.
Big points for HRG in those scenes. Big points for Sylar. The Hunter has been all over the court but has yet to score because he is a fake. To paraphrase Sylar, the shapeshifter was a better him than him. Whether he is a fake because he's in over his head not up to his job, or because he is something else other that what he appears to be- who knows?
Personally, I like to think he has some utterly insignificant power- like the ability to grow his fingernails 50 percent faster. Enough to get him hunted. Enough to make him completely jealous of the powers of others too.
