Was there any reason given as to why the shapeshift chose to mimic Sylar's appearance rather than just disappear into the crowd as some random passerby? Not that it didn't set up the next plot point nicely, but I'm thinking some kind of explanation is called for.
Synch
Because he was an idiot and didn't think Danko would be willing to kill his own partner?
feral
Well it worked on the other mooks after him--the shapeshifter must have thought it would work on Danko. Yes. He's an idiot.
dcg
Martin (that is his name right?) is drawn to influencial people, thus the people he shapeshifted into.
With this motivation he would want to understand how Danko (and new friend from Martin's point of view) found him.
Martin seems the type of guy who wants to see how close to the fire he can get without getting burned.

I thought it was quite ironic that a geometry (the study of shapes) teacher became a shape shifter.

That...and Sylar is hotter. thumbsup.gif lol
MagnificoG
More to the point, I think it's been suggested by his behavior that he must touch the person he mimics, so he must have changed and bumped into Sylar on the dance floor, right? Did some hottie grab Sylar's hand and try to grind on him off screen? THAT would have been great to see!
prander
I wouldn't call him an idiot, per se. I would call him naive, ignorant, unsuspecting, inexperienced and so on when it comes to both Danko and Sylar. He didn't know either of them and just assumed that they'd be no different than those who he's dealt with in the past. He didn't step up his game for both / either of them, like he needed to.

Yes, the shapeshifter wanted to kill Danko as evidenced by the gun "Sylar" drew from his pocket.

Why run away and have these guys keep chasing you when you can take them out, permanently?
waiheke
i found his motivation to want to become either of them lacking, using danko as a lounge lizard persona really seemed like a remote idea.
aulduron
He was hunting Danko.

My DVR isn't working, but I'm pretty sure I saw someone deliberately touch Sylar, so I was expecting the wrong Sylar.

I thought these were explained in the episode. He became Sylar obviously so that he could get alone with Danko and kill him. Sylar, whose IA enables him to know what makes people tick, explained that he chose to shift into Danko because he saw Danko as powerful, authoritative and significant - things he wanted to be so that he could "screw with people or just screw people".
Synch
Using Danko seemed a weak idea?

We knew the guy's motivation when looking for a new persona: Power and authority. Danko has them both in spades.

Ha! I didn't even realise that from the GN. Good catch!

Was that who he truly was, or just one of the people he shape shifted into?
Raekon
There was nothing that showed that Martin was actually a killer or a evil person (despite changing his shape only to get laid and having fun tongue.gif).

He worked on the school, went to the club had fun and lived a "normal life".

However, when they started chasing him and saw that they were out to kill him he was one of the few that instead of trying to run and hide he just stroke back.

I'm sure that at the times he was with danko he also found out what they are up to with all the people with abilities so he obviously thought that if Danko is out then that he and the others might be out of danger or at least not chased like that anymore. One can hope right? :/

To bad he ended like this and most of all even worser that "suckar" has his ability now. -.-

I have no idea. I'm assuming it probably really was him because geometry teachers aren't exactly in positions of power, so to speak, and he enjoyed changing into people who were more powerful.
TrentSteele
I would assume he did it because he saw it as an opportunity to trick and actually kill Danko instead of simply escaping and continuing to be hunted.

Hmmm. Maybe that is why Sylar assumed the form of a Woman. Maybe he wants to take a walk on the wild side.

Kinda makes sense. Sylar has already given Danko a Stuffed Bunny and a Gift wrapped Puppet(ier). It is interesting to note that Doyle was wrapped in dark red Ribbons; Red is the color of Passion.

Er... yeah now this is what I imagine is what happened (flash-slash-crack, nothing explicit but put in spoilers since it's not everybody's cup of tea)

While Sylar stashes the body (it'll keep till morning) they spend the night at the nighclub, Danko drugs his drink (something to make him more honest and compliant--hey Sylar can tell whenever HE's lying, it's only fair). He is rejected by the hottie from earlier who "Walked out on him" Sylar shapeshifts into her to mock him, one thing leads to another until...
Danko is sitting in a cheap hotel room, we hear the shower running and the occasional sob from the bathroom.
Danko: Sylar, you’re going to have to come out of there sometime.
If anyone should be mad it's Danko who was nearly fried when s/he took out a city grid shouting the name of a dead girlfriend.

I see that phrase and wonder why someone would pair Sylar with Prince Zuko a la the Maiko shippers.
