Doesnt Sylars power work by allowing him to understand how others powers work? If that is the case, and Matt wiped all of his memories, then none of those powers should work anymore. In theory that is. I mean genetically he should still have his orignal power, and probably Nathan's power because he still understands all about Nathan, but the rest of the powers would be gone. I guess there are big story flaws in that line of thinking though as if he lost all of his other powers he wouldnt have been able to still shape shift to look like Nathan. We have seen that the writers let little things like that go anyway.

The other thing is that in the graphic novel that came out after the episode it states that Parkman replaced Sylars mind with Nathans. If that was the case then Sylar should really be gone, but Nathan could still become physco and become like Sylar if he ever learned the truth.

well my theory,

The shanti virus wiped out Sylar's gift and it was designed to attack the nervous system. In the process all his IA aquired godsends were lost permanantly, leaving only his DNA empathic aquired TK.

Matt can damage the same nervous system and drop his powers if he chose to, i mean just apply the same principles. In the end we know he left clairesentience intact, but he could have wiped everything else, such as RCR, Alchemy, Sound Manip, ect...

Things he couldn't take away are TK, Electricty, Shapeshift, flight, and of course IA as they are genetically apart of him.

I'm going with your theory thecordler. This will serve as somewhat of a "clean slate" for Sylar "Nathan" like the virus.

Well, i think, sylar's power allowed him to figure out how matt's power works, then convinces matt that the mind wipe worked, you know what I mean? sylar playing possum again maybe?

I agree completely! I thought of the same thing after you in a different thread (I went back & posted a link to this one in it to give you credit). Nathlar should only have IA and Flight now, since all the other gifts were based on knowledge he gleaned via IA that has since been removed. Hopefully, since he is now a senator with a family, he feels powerful and secure enough to where he'll no longer be tempted by The Hunger, or at least not to the degree where he feels compelled to kill for abilities.

Makes you wonder im in the camp of IA wasnt his orginal power.

Why would that when they intentionally showed sylars memories disappearing?

I'm wondering about how lie detection works via mind wipe.

Something I thought of: The idea that Parkman erased Sylar's acquired powers by erasing his memory ignores the fact that Sylar used an acquired gift, Shapeshifting, as soon as his memory was erased.
