"Woof! Woof!"
Claire slowly opened her eyes, the sight of Mr. Muggles' salivating mouth greeting her. The cracked shudders of the empty room swung in the morning breeze. The room was barren and unwelcoming, save for a lonely, decrepit bed. But Claire knew she needed a place to sleep for the night, and she didn't have much of a choice. Claire got up and patted Mr. Muggles on the head. She was too tired to interact much with him. Life had taken it's toll on her once cheery disposition. She wrapped a scarf around her head and headed out, carrying her large duffel bag, with Mr. Muggles in tow. The harsh, dusty wind whipped against her face as she walked through the deserted, crumbling town. She stared at the house, the streets, the parks where little children used to play. The thought of the people who used to live here, of the people who used to enjoy their lives here, always brought a sinking feeling to her stomach. "Little kids were playing on this swing set and in a flash, they were gone..." she said aloud, to no one "I mean...why...why did this have to happen?" As Claire got close to a stream she would use to fill up her water canteen, she heard a rustling in the bushes. She quickly reached into her bag and brought out her rifle. She pointed it at the bushes, waiting for whatever, or whoever, it was, to show it's face. A tiny, white rabbit poked it's head out and started to bounce towards the water. Claire watched it carefully, and then took the shot. The rabbit fell to the side, lifeless. "Sorry little buddy, but a girl's gotta eat". Claire walked towards the dead rabbit as the wind picked up again, shrouding the decaying, abandoned town in dust.
Everybody Needs A Hobby
After breakfast, Claire wandered around the unknown town, her loyal and only living friend, Mr. Muggles, following close behind her. She came upon a car and peeked inside. There were no keys, but over the past 10 years or so, Claire had learned a lot of new things, one of which was how to hot wire a car. She punched through the glass and unlocked the door. As she sat down and fooled around with the wires, her hands quickly healed. Putting the car in drive, and making sure Mr. Muggles was safe in the passenger seat atop her duffel bag, she sped off. She needed to go to a new town, maybe one that wouldn't depress her so much. She knew this would prove to be impossible. As she left the city limits, she drove over an old, fading newspaper, the headline of which read: "Radiation Claims More Lives".

Mohinder drew the used needle out of the whimpering dog as Senator Nathan Petrelli barged in. "I just got word from one of your assistants" he said as he quickly approached the doctor "what exactly do you think you're doing here?"
"I already got the go ahead from Noah. I'm working on a cure. Something that will be able to get rid of our abilities! Think about it. You may want to keep yours, but someone who has a dangerous ability might want to get rid of it. I'm hoping this cure will do just that" Mohinder explained "I'm testing it out on animals first. Noah was kind enough to lend me his dog"
"You're telling me animals have abilities too?" Nathan asked, puzzled
"I...well, I had to inject Mr. Muggles with an ability first, before I could test it"
"Suresh! I told you no more experiments! They only brought us trouble last time!" Nathan scolded him
"It's a pomeranian, how much trouble could it cause?" Mohinder asked with a laugh.
"Keep the experimenting to the dog, Mohinder." Nathan said
"Of course, Senator." Mohinder took a small scalpel and made a tiny cut on Mr. Muggles' foot. Mr. Muggles yelped out in pain, then calmed down again when the cut started to rapidly heal. "Perfect" Mohinder smiled.
Nathan watched in amazement. Mohinder had somehow managed to give an entirely new species a set of powers. He felt something stir inside of him as he watched Mr. Muggles heal. Something he couldn't control. Something that made him...hunger.

Claire continued to drive down the beaten road in no particular direction. She heard Mr. Muggles whimper for food and stopped the car. "Sorry Mr. Muggles, I don't know if I have something for you to eat in here" she reached into the bag, looking for something to give to her dog. She reached passed guns, knifes, and needles. She held one needle up and sighed. She had planned on using this to transfer her blood to any victims of the blasts that might need help. Unfortunately, she never found any. Before she could return to looking for food, something flying in the distance caught her eye. "A bird...?" she asked aloud "no, it's too big." Then she realized just what she was looking at. Something she had been trying to hunt for years.
The most elusive prey she's ever faced.
The only other living person on the planet.
Sylar.
A/N: Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoy it so far! I know it's short, but the next chapter should be longer. And this story I'll actually try to finish
