Is there an option in the user config that will let us change the board's default colours?

The "hotdog threw up on my screen" colours are kind of getting to me and I'd like to get something a bit more subdued like blue tones or something.

I haven't seen any in the My Controls setting, and I imagine that it would hella hard to code up a new background for the site considering this isn't your simple [html][/html] code

As far as I know, a change like that is at the Webmaster/site designer level.

I personally like them, they're warm and friendly. I find blues (like at this board I occasional use) to be cold.

how about green? i believe that it should be green because the color green relaxes our eyes from too much reading and skimming numerous posts. it prevents eye strain. and unlike blue, it doesn't have a cold feel, it gives of a relaxing vibe.

Blue was just a suggestion.

On all the other phpbb-based boards I'm on, they have a user option in the user control panel that lets you change the forum theme, the board colours, etc. (and those boards are way less prolific than this one, to an extent).

The yellow/red colours either make me feel like I'm posting on a McDonald's board, or that I'm in Soviet Russia.

Not that I have a problem with Soviet Russia.

I don't think that the webmaster/site designer is going to change the layout just for one or two people.

It gives users the ability to have more control over their accounts, and I doubt it's that hard to do. If they can do it on proboards & ezboard, I'm sure it can be done here with a bit of coding.

If it's doable, I tend to agree with BG. I'm not a big fan of the orange/red color scheme.

If it's not doable, it won't kill me (or even make me post less).

yeah me too, the orange yellow doesn't seem relaxing for me.

I'll pass this along to the PTB. Before I do that, this reminds me of the lead up to the Villains volume. We were contemplating a change along these lines and the behind the scenes feedback was to ask the members to submit skins that we might temporarily use on the board. Real life got in the way and we never brought this possibly to the members.

With BG opening the door, I'm going to do so now. If you have a skin you would like to see here, or can design one that fits what others are requesting, please submit it in this thread. There are no promises that we will adopt your submission, but we might be able to allow it as a member option.

Personally, I like the color scheme here. It's distinct from the rest of the forums I visit. So many of them are blue/white, black/white or another predictable combo.

Yeah like, every other forum seems to use a blue and white scheme. I guess it would be nice to keep an interesting scheme color wise, but make it a little softer on the eyes. Something different to look at. Maybe pale blue and yellow, instead of white.

Though we better not lose our awesome comic book reply and whatnot buttons. That happened once and it was chaos

Ezboard and proboards let you choose from like 20 different skins with different "textures" (like wood, a snakeskin-looking background, a medieval-type looking background, etc.)

I like the suggestion of having greens or something. Or skins that are related to different characters of the show (Peter backgrounds, Sylar backgrounds, and so on).

On one of the RP boards I run on ezboards, our background has a wooden texture and looks kind of like an old treasure chest (all of the buttons next to the forums are different gems). It's pretty cool.

I just changed my colour scheme from neon pink, lime, and yellow on my DVR to a "golf" colour scheme (dark and light greens). Much easier on the eyes. I got tired of the really bright one after about eight months.

Character-themed backgrounds would be nice. Or place-themed backgrounds like Times Square, Tokyo, the interior of the Burnt Toast Diner, etc.

I like this one a lot. Making us feel like we're sitting in whatever Heroes-setting. It's unique and adds to the experience.

As long as it's within range of the webmaster's/site designer's capabilities, I'm fine with it. And as long as the current setting remains.

I think the forum that I manage also has city-esque backgrounds, IIRC. Like skylines and such.

LJ has a pretty vast assortment of themes, even for the free accounts.

The current setting should be the board default -- but for those of us who don't like the "A hotdog puked all over my desktop" colours, we should at least have the option of changing it to something more Heroes-ish.

I knew these board colours looked familiar.

They're the same colour as Ohio "party plates" (license plates you have to put on your car if you're convicted more than twice in ten years for a DUI/DWI offence).

Maybe the yellow is close (on every other post), but that's a paler red than what's on the board.

And the people who like the party plate colours can keep them that way. I just think that there should be an option to change them. There's no reason why we shouldn't be able to do that here. If I can do it on the free ezboard/phpbb/proboards that I'm on, it should be an option here.

I mean, I'm assuming that NBC is behind the funding of this board. They can afford 3-4 themes on here. Ezboards (free) lets you choose from over 30 colour/texture themes, so . . . why isn't that an option here?

Well, and this is just me assuming, NBC may not want to spend the money for something that's not necessary. Ezboards may be able to afford something for their communities or whatnot, but NBC shouldn't have to match what they do.

If they fund one of their television show boards for the option of several themes, then they'd have to fund all their television show boards for optional themes, so I wouldn't blame them if they didn't give us that option for that reason.

Anyway, this whole topic made me laugh because I've always found the colors to be somewhat annoying.

Now every time I see them, I'm reminded of my state's party plates (which cracks me up).

They have this on myspace, and I like it a lot. Though, those are different skins.

Personally, with then skin they are using, I would think it would require a redesign. Not too feasible if you ask me. If this was a vBulletin board i would volunteer my service, but on a board like this, I dunno? Never coded on an invision IP board. Looks similar but hey, baby puke is nice, right?

Sorry for not posting an update sooner. I moved from California back home earlier this month and it's been a hectic few weeks since I've returned.


Anyway, I've done several hours of research on this matter. Basically, without adding a modification to the forum software, there isn't a way for members to alter the skin they see while viewing the board. From what I could find, this version of IPB doesn't have such a mod available and the only ones that might work are "aftermarket". I'm almost 100% certain that if a site owner (that would be NBC) makes such an aftermarket mod to their board, IBP's "warranty" is null and void.

A small change I'd like to see would be to have the background revert back to a dark color rather than the white. maybe back to the dark grayish brown we used to have.

I had a dream it went purple and pink.
