Hi guys!

I thought I'll start a thread about this matter and put a linkie from the Mutant X series with a compilation of abilities shown there so you can take a look and voice your opinion on what would fit in the heroes series and what would be also cool to have no matter if its from the in the clip displayed abilities or other ones. smile.gif

Abilities in MutantX Season 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIkFsq4GjbY

What I'd find more interesting is they get really imaginative, go beyond the usual flyng/superstrength/x-ray vision comic-book ideas (although of course those are important too) and try something a little more different. Obviously, this is more difficult, because with so many ideas around it's difficult to be totally original, but something more unusual would only add to the show.
And, while I don't necessarily think there should be an "import" of other abilities from other shows, I think now-cancelled excellent abilities-focused show the 4400 gave good examples of some interesting abilities. I think there was more, but there is a list of at least most of them on wikipedia
here.

In Mutant X they had even more cool abilities through more seasons the show survived and if the copyrights issue between the companies wouldn't had occured the show would probably still exist because it was well made and fun for the type of show it was.

Unfortunately I couldn't find other power compilation videos from the further seasons. However, I think that quite a few of the abilities shown in this one would be interesting like the air manipulation/absorbtion or the energy manipulation and cyberkinesis.

The cyber girl abilities were a mix between hanas and micas abilities and would totally fit as a extension/evolution/mutation of Micahs ability for sure. smile.gif

The lizard and feline types wasn't that bad either as the density manipulation and others neither.
Well... tons of abilities Heroes could use in a good way and by that I don't mean as a "burden" once again like in Teds and Mayas cases nor I mean action nonstop but in a meaningful way in which the holders really use them to help others like they are supposed to.

There is not always the need to "save the world" in a daily manner and in every season. There are a lot of other ways they could go. They just need to want to.

As you already said, in 4400 were also a few interesting abilities to be found and even I didn't watched the series long or much (only a few episodes from the first season and 1 - 2 in between) I liked the main character and also the woman that trapped them both in the alter dimension without even knowing it. happy.gif

Begemot Geroi
Haemokinesis.

In the Twilight Series, many vampires are gifted with extraordinary abilities - beyond the typical strength, speed and endurance vamps have. While many of the abilities are fairly common (telepathy, illusions, electricity, etc), there are a few obscure abilities that might be interesting in Heroes. One ability allows the user to project a "shield" that protects from physical attacks. The attacker simply does not end up making the physical attack they had intended. There is another shield that can protect against mentally-based abilities. Another where the user unconsciously influences events to her will. Another is the ability to sense the relationships between and among people and yet another that can influence (strengthen and weaken) those relationships to a degree.
MattGillan
Possibly some powers that future versions of Peter and Sylar had acquired. Body Insertion for example.
FlyingGirl
Heightened senses. They'd be like Daredevil but with super sight as well.

The ability to create portals through space would be nice.

And since we've seen turning into water is possible, the ability to turn into some kind of gas.

Is that the same as creating vortex's? If so, this has already been done by Stephen Canfield.

No, that was more of a black hole, this would be more Stargate, Time Cop, the Spot...

The Shield based ability you are writing about is like Abigails force fields and one of the powers I would love to see in the show. smile.gif

the relationships one is displayed in the click I linked above from a woman that could change someones moral and relationships by touch and another interesting ability to see. smile.gif

I want to see stupid, frivolous powers. Like the power to never break the yolk of an egg when making sunny side up eggs. Or the power to never burn toast.
MagnificoG
I've been really happy with the variety of powers we've gotten so far, I'd just suggest they don't do away with new ones so quickly. The one-and-done power appearances by Jesse, Canfield, Pine and Alice for example. Keep new ones around longer. That said, I'd also like to see some crazy body-alteration powers, like becoming a giant. It'd be pretty sweet to watch Mohinder throwing phone booths at some crazy, giant nerd dressed like Galactus!
Teorwyn
I thought of an interesting one:

What if someone could control other people's powers, to a degree? For instance, this person negates Mohinder's strength, or forces Hiro to freeze time. The other people could resist, of course, but it wouldn't be easy, and they'd have to stay focused on blocking his/her control. For a basic power, he/she can only affect one person at a time, within a limited range, but if you want someone REALLY powerful, he/she can affect multiple people at once, with a far greater range. This person, of course, would be an extremely dangerous villain...could make things difficult for Sylar, even! (Turn the tables; now there's an interesting idea...)

Just an idea.

A friend of mine had an idea, too; seeing visions of the future...in reflective surfaces. Would make it interesting if this person was having a conversation and suddenly got a glimpse of the future in the other person's glasses.

The powers in the Heroesverse as per Heroes Wiki - http://heroeswiki.com/List_of_abilities

And a listing of superpowers from Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_super...ties_in_fiction

I'd definitely like more characters who could control / manipulate others' powers. More characters like The Haitian, Ando and baby Matt; like swapping powers among EHs, making a power activate right then and there, etc.

I'd also like more physical types of powers; like controlling / manipulating the density / mass / size / weight / whatever of one's one body; being able to fully or partially transform into or adapt aspects of various other forms like animals, bugs / insects, etc. and natural elements such as gases, electricity, fire, light, liquids, metals, plasma, earth / stones / rocks, etc.; some kind of "kinetic absorption" thing in which the EH gets temporarily stronger, faster, smarter or something when hit or whatever; a "reactive adaptation / evolution" thing kind of like Doomsday; enhanced reflexes / speed when fighting and so on.

Some of those aren't completely "new," but they could be done in new ways. These are off the top of my head.

I'd like to see Probability Manipulation, it's an ability that doesn't even need flashy effects, here's how I believe it works:

* The user concentrates on a target or targets and that shifts probability in the user's favour at the expense of the target or targets, making good things happen more often to the user (and possibly those he wants to extend it to and bad things happen more often to the target or targets).
* The user could also choose to generate an short range probability enhancing aura to help protect himself and others while "tipping the scales", useful when chased by projectile firing enemies (conventional or ability based).

Strength Siphoning could work similar, except it doesn't alter probability, it enhances physical attributes (Strength, Stamina, Durability, Agility) at the expense of the target or targets and the benefits apply only to the user.

Based on how it works, Knox appears to have had (before Tracy turned him into a load of frozen flesh lumps) a form of Empathic Augmentation, at the very least it's Fear Augmentation as it converts fear into physical strength and he senses fear, perhaps others forms of Empathic Augmentation could appear, maybe even a more broad spectrum version, which can give multiple benefits in a more unpredictable way...

I know this is an old and dead thread, but I'd like to revive it instead of starting a new one.

If anyone has watched the manga / anime "Bleach," there's a female character that has the ability / power to 'reject'. One part of this ability / power can be used for rejecting events in the past in a localized field of her creation, which in the mythology has thus far been only used for 'healing' people and 'fixing' things. Because of that, it's thus far been, by the majority of characters, believed to only be some method of generalized 'healing'. But a few have figured out that it's actually the ability / power to 'reject' within the field, meaning she actually can undue the event(s) that caused the damages and injuries and thus people are 'healed' or the objects are 'fixed'. So she actually can manipulate time by undoing the event(s) that caused the damages and injuries within the field.

I think a power like that would be an interesting one to have in the show. It'd be an interesting spin on both the healing power and on the time manipulation power.
Dervish
The ability to travel to alternative universes, like Sliders.
Druid25
How about an Animalistic Mimicry, sort of being able to mimic any animal the person touches, both its goods and bad. IE. A Cat: you gain the balance and night-vision, but at the same time you became emotionally aloof and develop a thing for fish; something like that.

also Another is some more Elemental based, like perhaps Mist Manipulation or Mimicry.

Just something like those.
fernajen
How about a danger sense. Where the person might automatically if another is dangerous to them, where to find danger, and know if something is poisoned; that kind of thing.
aulduron
The ability to not be detected by cameras and other devices. Morphing into animals. Communication with animals. A chameleon like ability. Seeing in different spectrums of light. Light manipulation. Seeing through the eyes of someone else, human or other, possibly by an otherwise blind person. The ability to breathe any gas, not breathe at all, exist in a vacuum, keep bugs away, control bugs.
Zakath
Active Hibernation. An ability that allows you to stop your own heart, lower your body heat to room temperature, and move quickly and quietly indefinitely without the need for rest or food/water. To activate it with full use, you need to not exert yourself for a period of time beforehand.
habhero
A reflector. someone who can use a person's own powers against them. For example, Sylar goes to use his tk on someone, yet it is he who is thrown up against a wall. someone like that would make a good agent for the new company. (Did that ever happen, by the way?)
I also like the ability to control darkness and light. Causing an instant blackout to escape a sticky situation, for example, or using a blinding light.
sylarsbrain
The ability to mainifest any object or call forth any person to there location even if said person is thousands of miles away. Sort of like Kristen's ability in "Nightmare on Elm Street 3" except he or she can call upon a person or object in waking life.

The power to communicate with and control animals.

Ability switching (temporary)could be fun, for example they could make Claire fly and Tracy heal.

An Ability to make fictional things real for a limited time.
Googieman
An ability I'd like to see involves plant manipulation. My Heroes character on the official website has the power I'm thinking of so I'll post the bio I wrote for it.

Chris has the ability transfer lifeforce/energy to and from plants. If he takes too much the plants will die and visa versa. If he pumps a lot of energy into a vine for example, he can make it move to his will, grow at an accelerated rate, and have a very strong crushing force. The energy can either be transfered straight from Chris - leaving him weak - or from surrounding plants. Others may also willignly 'donate' energy to Chris. He is also experimenting frocefully taking small ammounts of energy from other people. The technique also works in reverse and Chris is able to supercharge himself with the lifeforce from plants. Depending on how much energy he absorbs he has varying levels of increased strength, regenerating capabillities and the ability to change his size. Depending on how often Chris uses his increased abilities depends on long the charge lasts. Also, if he has additional plant energy in him he can feed off it and thus can go for long periods without foosd or water.
FlyingGirl
I remember in another thread me and some others mentioned mediumship. Could be interesting, especially if they could somehow channel and use the abilities of dead people as well as talk to them. Although that second bit would be kinda silly.

I already posted in this topic once, and even though it is an ancient one, i think the topic could/should be revived for volume 6. Besides, i just thought of one that nobody has posted in this forum yet. Emotional manipulation.

This would make a very useful ability for a villian. Though they have the means to make someone experience happiness, they would primarily use it to force others to feel anger, fear or sadness. Being overwhelmed by these emotions would make an adversary quite vulnerable during a fight. It could also be used to turn friends or allies against one another.

Just thought I'd throw that in there. A topic like this never goes out of style.

Hi! happy.gif

In the trailer I posted the link from on the first page when I started the thread back then, there was a woman that could change the moral of someone by touch and manipulate their feelings of some short. Her ability worked kinda like the description you gave so I thought I'll throw that in. wink.gif

I recommend you to watch the movie Push aswell! Some cool ability usage in the movie and decent acting/story aswell.

Personally I would like an ability which could make someone agile, like fast and all terrain, and able to be unnoticed, like invisibility. Something that would make the person able to be anywhere and do anything without being noticed, an ability which may not be superpowerful but would make the person holding it somehow untouchable by the others.

That ability would be shadow mimicry. The evolved human would just dissolve into a shadow right on the spot he was and being in that form, he would be able to travel really fast on top of any solid and liquid, which would be perfect to sneak up on people and he would be able to rematerialize any part of his body while the rest of his body would continue being a shadow. In conclusion the person to have this ability would be an evolved human with his own, maybe evil, purposes in the last season. Many uses he would have for this ability would be traveling anywhere in no time (even through water), spying people and my favourite, killing; wouldnīt it be awesome to see someone on a room, behind that person a shadow appears on the wall and 2 arms materialize from it to cover the personīs mouth with one hand and strangle him to death with the other?
Finally, everyone wants to see also Alice Shaw and her weather control again and personally, maybe another empath who would have more abilities than anyone has had in the series and that has a key role in being in the shadows through all the show to come to light right in the end. It would be kind of boring if peter had being the only empath through the whole heroes timeline.
NerdGirl1980
I wouldn't mind seeing someone with poisonous skin. I heard a lyric in a song about venomous skin and it just made me think that would be neat to see.

One thing I think could be fun about next season is if they should people who have really lame abilities. Think about, for every kick a** ability like flying, reading minds, etc., you know there are just equally as lame abilities to be had. Like being able to talk to like mosquitos or something.
Lairyfairy
I'd like to see someone with the ability to make inanimate objects come alive, e.g. a painting of a tiger on a wall could, at a snap of the fingers, leap out of the frame and come alive at full size; a portrait of a samuari could become a new ally, kids' toys could become real weapons; a magazine showing horses or cars could be manipulated to life-size getaway vehicles. They could have great fun with all that. thumbsup.gif

That sounds like a cool ability. Sounds like something you would see on Charmed.

BTW, Sylar and Samson are empaths. Their IA allows them to take abilities through Empathy.

Hi Raekon.

Just watched your link. Pretty cool. I admit, Charlotte's power is similar to what I suggested, but morality wasn't exactly what I had in mind. She did a good job of turning friends against one another, but nobody reduced to tears from depression or laughing hysterically. Then again, I never saw that episode of Mutant X, so I could be wrong.

I was thinking more along the lines of the negative effects the pink slime had in Ghostbusters 2, or Data's emotion chip in Star Trek Generations. Just the ability to create havoc with someone's emotions to the point where they would be easy to defeat.

As for Push, I saw it shortly after it was released on DVD. Honestly, I wasn't all that impressed. Some girl who had Parkman's power, a couple of Asian guys who were doing the Jesse/Echo thing, and a few with telekinesis. To me, it just seemed second rate. I'm sure if Tim and the crew ever do a major motion picture featuring Peter, Sylar, and company that it would put it to shame.

Although I have to say, that scene with the exploding fish was pretty awesome.
