This topic is the OOC thread for the new RPG "Unseen Emergence". Just for a small overview, this is a game that is, in essence, about nothing. While the game does have a plot of a sort, its more or less based on the stories and interactions of the characters within the game, rather than any major arc itself. This game runs parallel to the show itself, meaning that anything and everything that happens in the show is also happening in the game here. While we may not see it directly, it's still there affecting the plot of our game.
The game begins during the "Six Months Ago" episode of Season 1, a bit earlier than the actual start of the show itself. I felt that it would allow us more time to solidify our characters and also have a bit of practice before getting into the meat of the Heroes World that is Season 1.
So, without further ado, let's get this show on the road. Well, at least the OOC side of it all, haha.

Miscellaneous Info (Anything you feel we need to know that was not covered up above):
~~~~~~~~~~
Rules:1. First off, no God-Modding, power gaming or metagaming. If you do not know what these words mean, let me define: No using your powers to extremes. No god-powers! You can't have a Hiro, Sylar, Ted, etc, type of character. No knowing stuff your character wouldn't know. No playing other people's characters. No killing someone else's characters without permission. If you do something I haven't listed here and try to be clever, it is unwritten but still a rule.
2. Spell correctly, use a decent amount of proper grammar and punctuation. Spell Check is your friend and as such, you should speak to him often.
3. You can't be a canon HEROES character or related to any canon characters. Only OC (Original Characters) are allowed.
4. This is an attempt at a bit of realism. Live your character's life like an actual life, like it really matters. Interact with other players how you'd interact in real life, and remember that every decision has consequences.
5. No rip offs. That means Ziro Takamura and Gylar are not allowed. Come up with your own ideas people! You can be evil or good, normal or special, but the one thing you can't be is uncreative!
6. Keep it within the universe. That means your power should be reasonable: No laser eyes or wings, etc.
7. Make decent posts, interact, don't have two line posts, and most definitely leave posts open. Remember that you are playing with other people and you WILL be included in the game as long as you include others.
8. No flaking or abandoning. If you want to leave, tell me by PM or IM. My IM name for AIM is SgtHappySlap (Laugh it up, you know you want to).
9. Keep it PG13 by following the
fan fic guidelines that also apply to RP and follow the
board rules.
10. Remember the Disconnect. The Player is not The Character. I for one am a guy, and my characters are evenly split gender wise. I have never shapeshifted, nor killed anyone, nor done drugs. I take this very far, and very to heart. If something happens to your character, you need to not take it personally.
11. Work things out (continuity errors, questions etc.) in OOC, please. If you have a problem with another player then PM that person and try to solve the situation in a civil manner. If I feel that the problem is affecting the game, I WILL get involved.
12. GM has final say in any and all issues.
13. Rules can be changed at any moment should someone try something.
14. There is a chance that your character may die in this game. If your character dies (Whether it be because it had to happen or because I needed to remove your character, etc), you are still very much welcome to bring in another character and ask to play again, unless I tell you otherwise.
15. We are going to use the TAG System for this game. Anyone who's played EotW or FoM will know how to use this system. At the beginning of each post, you will place any pertinent information that needs to be known (I.E. Location and Time and your character's name). At the end of each post, you will TAG the Player that you want to respond to your post. Here's an example post:
New YorkSix Months AgoIC: Peter Petrelli
"I thought we killed you!" Peter yelled out as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man charged towards the Heroes.
TAG: Requiem191
And that's the TAG System. It's easy to use, so no worries.
17. Have fun!
I'm assuming this is the thread where we post our character sheets, filled out, right? Just let me know if any of this is outside of the rules.
Character Sheet:Name: Annabelle (Anne) Crawford
Gender: Female
Ability (If your character has one): Aerokinesis (Air Manipulation)
Age: 24
Height: 5' 8"
Weight: 135
Hair (Style and Color): Long, wavy, dirty blonde. Usually kept up in a messy bun with a clip. Either that or down and naturally dried.
Eyes: Hazel
Hometown: Dallas, TX
Personal History: Annabelle is a hot-headed artist who has just opened a small gallery in the city. She was raised north of Dallas in Denton and attended the University of North Texas for a graphic design degree. She tends to overextend herself in her eagerness to try new things. She has many interests and a hard time committing to just one activity. Even as an artist, she still dabbles in film making and pursuing her interest in meteorology. She often forgets to look before she leaps, and tends to come off as a very aggressive person. She is a good leader when she wants to be, but has a tendency to be a glory-seeker, and takes unnecessary risks. For her, it's all or nothing.
Miscellaneous Info (Anything you feel we need to know that was not covered up above): Nope, I think things are good. Just ask if you need anything else.
I guess I can clarify what her ability allows her to do, and not do. She can manipulate the air around her body and a small area out from this. This gives her the ability to fly, produce weak air shields, produce localized wind gusts, and produce air blasts with her hands at varying speeds. She cannot affect weather patterns, or create windstorms on a large scale (i.e. tornadoes, downburst or "straight-line" winds). If you think of any other applications of the ability, let me know!
Edit: Clarified ability, added personal history.
This may be a stupid but important question, but where will the RP be set, as in the physical location of the story? I'm hoping there can be a set starting location so that everyone has a chance to interact with each other
Anyways, I'll be writing my character sheet later on tomorrow as well. The ability I've planned for my character requires me to brush up on some elementary physics.
Have a character I want to run by you, Req, next time you're on AIM. Mostly just the ability, really.
Requiem191
Aug 3 2009, 09:40 PM
Yuriko - It's not a stupid question, trust me. I've been thinking it over and I've narrowed it down to a few places:
New York - Pretty much the main place in the entire first season, lol. The Primatech Research building is here (kirby Plaza and what not). Most of the Heroes are here or at least end up here after a little while. Its an ideal place to go for the story. Politics galore as well. While Nathan hasn't made the decision to run for Senator yet in the "Six Months Ago" period, there still has to be plenty of Politics already going by now.
Las Vegas - Needless to say, Las Vegas is important. Linderman is here as well as the Corinthian Hotel and Casino. Maybe there's more to it than we know (and by that I mean its okay if we take some artistic liberties with the game here. Maybe there's more Company activities here in Las Vegas that we don't know about? Plenty of things we can do without breaking canon... too much). The Mafia/Mob as well (through Linderman).
Los Angeles: Matt Parkman, Ted Sprague, Audrey (last name? The cop... lol. I need to go to Heroeswiki), various victims of Sylar throughout the "Six Months Ago" period. There has to be some Company activities going on as well if Matt's capture in the beginning of Season 1 tells us anything. The FBI to deal with.
Odessa: Claire, the Bennets, Primatech Paper. Seeing as this is where Level 5 is located, we have plenty of Company stuff to do here. High School stuff can happen here as well, for the younger characters (though really, we can do "high school" stuff in any of the cities).
India could also be a locale, along with Japan if we like. There are some ideas. I'll let you all mull over it for the night and then we can make a decision tomorrow. I'm fine with whatever (though I like the idea of New York or Las Vegas).
SaberProductions - Approved. The sheet looks pretty good.
Aug 3 2009, 10:06 PM
SaberProductions: Well,since you're the only one who has a sheet up as of this post, I need to let you know that I added a bit to it. There needs to be a Personal History for your character as well. It worked fine enough in Heroes Side Story to not have a personal history part of the sheet, but I think it'll help everyone to see our characters a bit better and it will also help us set up some character based story stuff. Little things we can play off. (Wait, you're grandma is sick and you need to leave New York suddenly to be with her, despite your new life here? That kinda stuff really.)
So yeah, everyone, keep note of that. There's now a personal History section.
Yuriko
Aug 3 2009, 10:25 PM
Name: Christy (Christine) Yu
Gender: Female
Ability (If your character has one): Kinetic Force Manipulation (on self or through physical contact)*
Age: 19
Height: 5'3"
Weight: 110 lbs.
Hair (Style and Color): Long and straight, about shoulder length. Black.
Eyes: Brown
Hometown: San Francisco, CA
Personal History: Christy is a first-generation Chinese American with a typical, average-class upbringing. Since early childhood, Christy was a very curious and observant child, often mimicking movements she observed on television, such as dancing. Christy developed a talent for the dance arts and gymnastics from a young age, much to the pride of her parents.
Her ability manifested at an early age, when she was only 9 years old. Christy was playing with the family pet cat in the backyard outside her house when the cat was suddenly scared by some barking noises from the house next door and ran up a tree close by. Fearful of her cat's safety, Christy successfully tried to mimic the cat's act of climbing up the tree and retrieved the cat from its hiding spot on a branch. Not knowing how to get back down from the tree, Christy recalled how cats were able to fall from heights and land perfectly, so she tried to jump out of the tree in the same manner as a cat would, and her newfound ability allowed her to soften the force of her landing without injuring herself. It was not until a few years later when Christy learned that what she had done was an impossible act for humans, but she kept the memory a secret from everyone else.
(Incomplete personal history; I will complete it later)
Miscellaneous Info: *Since the ability is rather rare, I'll explain it in more detail to avoid any confusion. This ability is different from the one of a similar name possessed by Gambit of X-Men. Kinetic force manipulation allows the user to manipulate (increase/decrease) the amount of kinetic force exerted by their body or another person/object in physical contact.
Examples of the applications of this ability: This ability allows the user to amplify or dampen their own or an object's exerted kinetic force, granting enhanced strength and speed (or weakening strength and speed), leaping greater heights and being able to land safely from a fall from a great height. However, due to the nature of this ability, only bodies in motion (possessing kinetic energy) can be manipulated.
Side notes: I hope this ability is acceptable, I've put a great deal of time and effort into planning it out into a reasonable and fair power.
Requiem191
Aug 3 2009, 10:33 PM
Yuriko - I like the ability. It's very similar to the ability that I had for my first Character I ever made in an RPG (that RPG was Heroes Side Story, strange enough, lol). Now, that ability is extremely easy to god-mod if we aren't careful. I know this because I god-modded it (like an idiot) and made things very unbelievable.
You can use the ability as long as you don't have your character (or other characters/things) jumping on to the top of a skyscraper or any other tall something. That would be God-Modding. There's also various other things that ability could do if being God-Modded, but we don't really need to go into them.
Anyways, add a Personal History to your character's sheet and consider yourself approved Yuriko!
Yuriko
Aug 3 2009, 10:47 PM
Thanks for the positive feedback Requiem, I'm glad the ability is acceptable. Don't worry about god-modding, I don't plan on using it on very large scale basis (ie: skyscraper jumping, Daphne-style super speed, etc), but on a smaller scale.
Christy may be able to jump off from say - 5 floors without a scratch if she lands properly, 10 floors with a few bruises - ballpark figures, I don't really know how high up those floors are. She may be able to subdue a strong person by holding on to him/her and dampening the kinetic force they are able to exert, making attempts to resist useless, such as trying to run away or strike at her. But if she is held tightly or otherwise immobilized, she has cannot exert any kinetic force at all and is basically equal to an unpowered human until she is able to move again.
Anyways thanks again for your feedback, I'll get working on the history when I can tomorrow.
Name: Finna “Fin” Kirby
Gender: female
Ability: Intoxication - the ability to induce a stupor in foes, similar to when they are high or drunk. One with this ability may manifest the ability through the breath or through the emission of a pheromone, or even through mental contact. This ability does not damage the brain or the body, it simply throws off accuracy, reflexes and coordination, stupefies the subject and makes them act as though drunk or high.
Age: 23
Height: about 5’ 5”
Build: thin
Hair: long black hair with bangs (fringe) that often falls in her eyes, a lot of time she wears it in messy pony tails or loose braids
Eyes: Green
Hometown: New York
Personal History:
Both of her parents are Irish and Fin is first generation American. Born and raised in New York and loved every minute of it. She had a normal childhood, never really noticed anything odd about her parents and why would she? Her mother is a talented graphic designer, with a perfect sense of balance, and her father a talented musician, with the ability to pick up any instrument and play it perfectly.
Okay so it wasn’t 100% normal, but her parents were honest and told her of their abilities and that she would most likely manifest one herself. For years she hoped she would one day be able to fly, or see the future, or move things with her mind, never would she have picked being able to intoxicate people without the aid of alcohol. Good thing her ability didn’t show up until her college years, were her friends sudden drunkenness after on one or two beers easily disguised her gift until she was able to get control of it.
Now that she is grown up and out of college, a former communications major, Fin in trying her hand at making a name for herself with her other talent – singing. After trying out for several bands Fin got a starting out gig as a back up singer for the Voodoo Wave and pop/punk band.
Miscellaneous Info (Anything you feel we need to know that was not covered up above): She dresses in steampunk/goth styles sometimes making her stand out in a typical crowd.
Name: Zack Klein
Gender: Male
Ability (If your character has one): Energy Construction - Can create weapons and objects out of raw energy (Swords, guns, cages, handcuffs, etc).
Age: 21
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 195
Hair (Style and Color): Shaggy brown hair that covers his eyes at times and needs to be brushed away.
Eyes: A deep shade of brown.
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Personal History: Zack Klein was born in 1985. His mother died in child birth. His father struggled to raise Zack as best he could, but times were hard. Zack's father could barely hold a job as he was constantly sick and in need of medical help that they could barely afford.
At the age of seven, Zack's father suffered a major heart attack that forced the family into such deep financial troubles that they had to move in with Zack's grandparents. Though they were able to handle the financial troubles eventually, Zack's father still couldn't work. The young boy had to struggle with understanding why his father was sick and also cope with the fact that he might die at any time.
Time went by and Zack's father made a very miraculous recovery. Where all of the doctors they had gone to said that he would die, Zack's father was able to beat his illness and almost make a full recovery. He was back up and running and even help a steady job.
Zack graduated from High School at the age of eighteen and headed straight for College in New York. Now a Junior, Zack has a clear idea on where he is headed in life. He hopes for a job in the Entertainment business, maybe starting out as an actor and then working his way though.
Zack has a flair for the dramatic and is a very good actor. He likes to write in his spare time and tries out for various small plays when he can. He works at an old record store, mainly keeping it clean and selling a few CDs/Records when the owner is out on business.
At times, Zack can be very moody, especially when stressed. Although he does his best to handle his emotions and keep them in check, he can easily let himself get out of hand and "fly off the handle" on anyone who pushes him too far. For the most part though, Zack is very aloof and a dreamer; he would definitely rather have his head in the clouds than in the books.
Miscellaneous Info (Anything you feel we need to know that was not covered up above): Something might be here.
Perhaps I will add more to this later, but I wanted to keep it fairly brief and open-ended as I am still feeling this whole thing-a-merjig out. Hope I did it in the correct fashion. Apologies if that it is not so.
Name: Louis Faust
Gender: Male
Ability: Emotional Memory Absorption
Similar to Clairsentience but limited in its clarity, Louis can adsorb the memory of specific events that have left an emotional discharge on physical objects and surroundings. He picks up that emotional residue and must feel it before he can have it as his own.
Age: 18
Height: 5’9
Weight: 150
Hair : Dark brown to the appearance of black, naturally so. Long and slightly wavy, just beyond ear level. Not entirely un-kept, but still generally all over the place.
Eyes: A very faint blue.
Hometown: Ludlow, Maine
Personal History:
The younger child of two, born to an upper-middle class family, Louis Faust had always been quiet, even as a child. His parents met and married while at college, and both hold very important and very distracting jobs. They have been separated since the boys were young. Louis and his older brother, Darren, live with their father who is a contract engineer and is often leaving the state for periods at a time to work on projects. Darren (who is three years his senior) takes on the parental role most of the time, which Louis is often irritated by but mostly appreciative of.
Louis’s ability became noticeable to him during his early teenaged years and he still doesn’t have much control over it, nor does he really understand it. He hasn't told anyone and has no wish to be found out. Still, he has a lot of questions.
Louis is quiet to the point of bordering on meek. Classically, his confusion over his ability gives him a feeling of dislodgement from other people, and he keeps to himself when possible.
Misc: Because physical contact with things of the physical world cause him to take on the emotional memories that have been tied to them, out of necessity he always wears long clothing (Long shirts, long pants, etc) and a pair of gloves.
Aug 6 2009, 02:36 PM
Name: Colin Jacobi
Gender: Male
Ability (If your character has one): 'Ghosting' - Colin is able to shift into an intangible form, in which he can pass through solid objects, is not affected by gravity(this is pretty difficult to deal with sometimes for the uncoordinated Colin), and does not need to eat, breathe or sleep, does not tire and does not physically age. He's still visible, but only slightly, and in the dark, he's nigh impossible to see.
While in his 'ghosted' form, Colin's senses are vulnerable. Loud noises especially will make him become tangible once more. He's also vulnerable to electricity, which will cause him to lose his ghosting.
Age: 21(physically about 20 due to ghosting)
Height: 5'10
Weight: 120
Hair (Style and Color): Brown, kind of fluffy up top, but buzzed around ears, slight sideburns
Eyes: Hazel
Hometown: Buswhick, New York
Personal History: Colin was born in Bushwick, Brooklyn to a small family consisting of himself, his brother Alan, and his mother and father. All decent, unremarkable people, though his brother gave Colin the usual older brother treatment, at least while he was around. He was a good man, and a role model, being 3 years older than Colin and all. Colin was a shrimpy, insular kid, and generally avoided such scary things as people, the outside, bright lights, noises, water, sharp things, germs, and such. He preferred his books, and the decently bad neighborhood he grew up in didn't help.
When Colin was 16, his brother died when on the subway, he dashed down off the platform to help a homeless person who had fallen onto the tracks. The homeless man survived the passing train as Alan boosted him back onto the platform, Alan however didn't get up in time.
Colin was devastated by this loss, and spent several months just mourning. Eventually though, he decided to take his brother's advice and get out more, and as he started senior year, he really did try. However, as a shrimpy white kid in a school with a lot of troubled students, Colin got knocked around a lot. One day outside of school, he was being tormented once more, and as he closed his eyes for the pain, it didn't come. He turned intangible and the punch went right through him. He managed to concentrate enough to turn tangible once more, and surprised the bewildered bully with a right hook that knocked him silly. Colin survived senior year, barely, and started his studies at Baruch College in the city and living in an apartment with a few other students. He gets out every now and then to go to shows, mostly hipster stuff, and spends a good deal of his time playing around with his ability, to the point where he's spent around a year in his 'ghosted' form.
He's currently majoring in English with a minor in Sociology.
Miscellaneous Info (Anything you feel we need to know that was not covered up above): Colin's a skinny little ferret who can't fight to save his life and will ghost the heck out of dodge at the first sign of trouble. He is however, decently smart and occasionally a nice person. Just don't expect him to stand up for you. He's decent socially but not 'charming', and he's had one girlfriend since he enrolled in college, it hardly lasted a semester.
He tends to dress if not act like a hipster, ironic t-shirts, silly haircut, takes care of his appearance.
Aug 6 2009, 06:54 PM
Name: Alison Chase
Gender: Female
Ability (If your character has one): Tracker
The ability allows her to know when she’s in the vicinity of a HEB.
There is also a level of directionality involved. (The closer she is to a HEB, the more specific it becomes. If in the same room, her ability allows her to know precisely which person[s] is/are HEB[s].) There is the potential available for her ability to work over distances as it grows stronger, but she doesn’t have that level of control yet.
The sense is comprised of a combination of an indescribable mental & physical sensation combined with what she describes as an indescribable taste and scent.
She has also noticed that the "flavor" of the sense seems to be different for each HEB. (This raises the possibility that, through observation of HEBs using their abilities, she can learn what ability each "flavor" represents.)
Age: 23 (06/10/1984
Height: 5’2”
Weight: 110 lb
Hair (Style and Color): Brunette. Typically cut shoulder-length and worn loose.
Eyes: Brown
Hometown: Orofino, Idaho
Personal History: Raised in Orofino, her ability didn’t manifest until she had moved to Midland, Texas, where she took a job waiting tables at the Burnt Toast Diner. That happened shortly after she turned 20. Although she got along with her parents, she wanted to try and make a life on her own.
She first realized something was up when a fellow waitress, Charlie, came to work after “starting to remember things” suddenly. Alison could sense that Charlie had power, but couldn’t explain it.
Although not completely aware of what had happened, Alison began meditation practices to try to control and understand her ability. Through practice, she learned that she could distinguish between Charlie, and those she encountered like her, and those who were normal.
Miscellaneous Info: There is no “dirt” in her background. A loving family, a handful of ex-boyfriends, and decent, though not excellent, grades in school. Average in almost every category. She does, however, regularly practice yoga and martial arts. Although not highly skilled yet, she is proficient and eager to learn. She is considering going to college to become a physical therapist.
She does struggle sometimes with the fact that she’s so completely ordinary. She tried to excel in school, but wasn’t able to pull high grades. She tried sports, but lacked, at the time, the coordination and balance to make it off the bench. At that age, her hair and complexion were bad, and she was forced to wear braces to overcome several dental issues. Thus, her physical appearance was the source of many personal attacks.
She has always had a small inferiority complex because of this, which her few friends have tried to convince her is completely ridiculous.
As this story takes place at the beginning of
Six Months Gone, she is friends with Charlie and has just met Hiro.
Although she enjoys working at the diner, sometimes she feels lost and adrift. As if there’s something more she could/should be doing.
A bit of a party-girl, she enjoys bars, but rarely gets completely wasted. (The few times it happens are when she’s feeling particularly down on herself, or after a bad breakup.)
Her coworkers and friends generally consider her the “good girl.”
Somebody who isn't too cool to believe it's okay to be just me
What if I can't remember who I'm trying to be?
Why can't I be somebody else?
Only two things about your sheet, Synch: First off, your ability. For the most part, it's fine. I only want you to edit the part of her being able to sense the level of strength that other HEBs have. It's fine if you have her being able to sense who an ability belongs to and what ability they have, but knowing the level of strength seems to go a little too far, imo. Not necessarily a God-Mod type of thing, but it would cause you and some of the players a bit of extra work that isn't necessarily needed.
Also, we are starting at the beginning of the Six Months Ago period, meaning the VERY beginning of it. Your character wouldn't know Hiro or that Charlie was murdered, seeing as it hasn't happened yet. If you want to work this out with me via PM, then that's fine. I'm more than happy to help come up with an alternative for the situation.
Other than the two things I noticed, everything is perfect. You are APPROVED.
I also feel it necessary to ask all of you if you wish to have your characters separate for the time being. Since this game is mostly going to be character driven, you should have some sort of story planned out for your character (nothing too major, but your characters do have lives before the actual game starts out. Just like in Heroes, these are ordinary people who just happened to be thrust into an extraordinary situation). Thinking logically, all of our characters won't necessarily be in the same place. They have different lives. Their paths haven't crossed yet.
As the game progresses though, that's when we all come together. Circumstances come up that affect our character's lives and draws them together. Maybe your character knew one of Sylar's victims and now the FBI wants to investigate you and your connections? That's pretty big! Maybe your character gets kidnapped by the Company and experimented on? Eventually, our Heroes will be affected by the Company's ever expanding influences.
Keep in mind everything that happens in the Heroes universe as of Season 1. Hell, maybe even keep an eye out for everything else from the show (Level 5 Prisoners, Primatech, etc.) because you never know what plot-point of the show might help your character's story.
Just things to mull over and chew.
So, should we have a few events and obstacles in place for them to go through story wise, and then some of us we'll meet in the middle?
Pretty much. Going by the skeletal make-up of Heroes Side Story, all of the players had a plan for their character. Certain things that would happen to them etc. My character, for example, has a very sick father, or he was very sick at one point. He may or may not play a part in my character's storyline. Not only that, but there's always the Company and/or Pinehearst sticking it's nose where it doesn't belong. Plus Sylar, plus Adam (if anyone ever meets up with him potentially), plus Ted, plus the FBI, etc.
You basically have control of your character's storyline. When and where everyone crosses paths is up to you as a player. If you'd rather be where the action is (I.E. where the other players are), then by all means put your character with them. They can easily just bump into any of the player characters, if you choose to make it happen. On the other hand, if you'd rather just have your character go through your own ideas and have them face certain things, then by all means do what you have to do.
I for one might be having a happy medium. I like interactions between players as much as I like giving my character something to cry about, lol. It's all about what you want to do.
I made the edit so Charlie's not dead yet, but as the episode starts out with Hiro in the diner, I put down that she just met him. If that doesn't work, send me a PM or let me know.
I like the idea of keeping the characters largely seperate, especially right at the beginning. It gives us all a chance to get a solid grip on our characters so there won't be any jarringly OOC moments later on.
Alright, well that seems all in order. Everything looks good so far. I'll be waiting a little while longer, giving everyone a chance to post up their character sheet. I don't think we have enough people just yet, so let's give it some more time.
I've been having some extreme computer trouble and I'm somewhat close to having everything under control, so my character sheet should be completely finished hopefully by tonight or tomorrow.
Still thinking about joining this (first RP experience for me), but I am still trying to wrap my mind around what backstory I would want for a character...I'll try to settle down on an idea and post a character sheet today if it's not too late.
Ok, here goes...please be gentle with me! It's long, but I feel the need to explain a lot, lol...be prepared for grammatical errors by the dozen
@Requiem, this ability may not be any better than the other I suggested to you, if it is another impossible ability I can modify the Character Sheet with no problem.
Character Sheet: Name: Irina Stoliskanya
Gender: Female
Ability (If your character has one): Electrokinesis
Age: 26
Height: 5’ 10”
Weight: 130
Hair (Style and Color): Mid-Shoulder length with bangs, brunette
Eyes: Olive Green
Hometown: Moscow
Personal History:
Irina was born to Boris and Yvelsina Stoliskanya in 1983. Her father was an agent for the Central Intelligence Service after the KGB was dismantled. During tensions with Chechnya in 1993, her father was accused of assisting former KGB members by means of passing information to Chechnya. As her father was being investigated, she was sent away to family in Arkhangelsk with her mother.
En route, they were attacked by government agents, during which their security personnel were killed. Greatly fearing for her life, as well as that of her family, Irina began to hyperventilate, unable to control her thoughts or her emotions. This fear reached its peak as she watched her mother take a bullet; she reached out her hands to the agents and began to shout for their mercy, when it felt as though her emotions took on an electric component, purging out of her body through her hands: the last thing she remembered seeing before blacking out was an arc of electricity going from each hand to the two agents.
When Irina awoke she was alone, with no trace of her mother or the agents that ambushed them. Returning to Moscow, she learned that her father was dead. Grieving, she tried turning to the family she had been on her way to for asylum, her father’s brother and his family, but they turned her way out of fear of being blacklisted by the government by being associated with her.
For the next 10 years of her life she grew up on the streets, Irina learned to take care of herself developing moderate hand to hand skills fighting off other urchins from taking any food, clothing or shelter she managed to find for herself, never knowing what truly happened to her mother. At the age of 20 she was approached by a group, their affiliation unknown, to perform ‘task’s for them. These tasks utilized her honed thieving skills, and on more than one occasion she was ordered to take a man’s life. Desperate for the money, and with plenty of ‘evidence’ paining these men as horrible individuals that should have their lives ended, Irina continued her affiliation with this group without question.
Since the incident which possibly claimed her mother’s life, she rarely tried to channel the ability she demonstrated; afraid she would be unable to control it. Recently, with new confidence beneath her belt, she has been experimenting and has learned a degree of control of this ability to apparently manipulate electricity.Due to the lack of practice in her ability, Irina completed her tasks with the use of knives and/or guns as needed.
Her most recent task has placed her in Odessa, TX, where she has been ordered to wait for further instruction. While waiting, she received a puzzling piece of information, about a time in her life that she has tried to forget daily: documentation that appeared to show that her father’s brother had recently been willed all of her father’s financial and real estate assets. She does not know who sent her this information or why.
Miscellaneous Info (Anything you feel we need to know that was not covered up above): Irina’s capability with her power is very limited. She can generate and discharge electricity from her hands, though she can only generate enough voltage to stun and incapacitate, not kill. She has also discovered that her ability to manipulate electricity goes beyond what she can physically produce: she has found that, in the case of a light bulb for example, she can either amplify the electrical current to make it bust its fuse, or stifle the current to where there is not enough voltage to generate light. Wielding her ability seems to have an emotional impact on her, as she cannot sustain wielding her ability for too long, and trying to generate large amounts of voltage leave her physically and emotionally drained.
You see, I want to approve your character, TsaiMeLemoni, but she's a very unrealistic character, at least in my opinion. First, she's a sort of spy for a shady russian group that we don't know much about. That lends quite a bit of control on your part when your character crosses paths with any other character in the game, mainly because only you know the main people in this shady group.
Plus, she seems to be very much so a Mary-Sue. Lost both parents at an early age due to a tramatic experience, had to kill to survive... too many Sue-like qualities, imo.
Not only that, but your character has training in hand-to-hand combat along with small arms training. That, plus your ability (which is actually fine btw), gives you too many advantages over the other players.
Plus, your character is not an ordinary person who happens to be in an extraordinary situation. While yes, her situation is extraordinary, so is her life in general. She just is not an ordinary girl.
If you want to talk this through in PMs, I am very interested in giving you a few ideas on what you can do to change your sheet, only minimally, yet make drastic steps towards being approved for the game.
