Full Version: Cult of Sylar

While it appears in the next season Robert Knepper is playing something akin to a cult leader, it occurs to me that smart Sylar could just as easily create a cult of his own.

...a real very, scary SARMY. How would it get started? Easy.

By creating his own church, or taking up a 'cause and providing a structure for runaways ala "Fight Club" for young people like Luke. Starting with runaways, the poor & foster home kids kicked out on the streets looking for sanctuary. In short, like Jim Jones, David Koresh or Manson.

And using the internet he could easily grow such a cult.

But Why? We all know he's looking for powers, what better way to get adoring worshippers to do it for you? He provides employment or at least a roof How? Selling soap as in "Fight Club" ? or in the production and selling of Sylar watches perhaps? He provides for their material needs and in turn they comb the country looking for 'Specials' for him.

Sylar could just as easily say the other 'Specials' are demons and must be ferreted out & hunted down. Its something Nathan did with the government but with a legion of young people under his spell he could do it far quicker.

If he grew his cult he could potentially have thousands of eyes on the internet, scanning newspapers for "mysterious" happenings.

I could see him taking this route if Nathan's way to the White House seems blocked for past mis-deeds.

Its just another way to Power and nearly God-like status. So Politically he could take the White House looking as Nathan but appears as Sylar to his followers who are on "the inside"

I hope you find this scary. What else do you think?

What, the Sarmy isn't scary already? unsure.gif

I couls see Sylar doing a superpowered Manson family type of thing, that'd be pretty scary IMO.

Yeah, this is totally something I could see Sylar doing. And who needs employment? Last I checked he still had alchemy from Bob.

Poor Sylar would just have to keep himself from slicing all his followers' heads, especially if they showed up with a really cool power.

LOL, LowerTheBar! Y'know, I totally forgot he had Alchemy!

LOL! Well, the real life Sylar's Army is really just a place to talk about the character, Zachary Quinto & "Heroes" & raise money for Charity.

I've personally met the people who run it and while clearly they love ZQ, they are pretty level headed people with their own lives & interests.

But the idea of more Manson-like cult occurred to me after the NPR interview with director John Waters ("HairSpray, Cry Baby, Serial Mom, etc.") about Leslie Van Houtan. The murderer of Sharon Tate & the La Biancos.

He has an article arguing for her release. It brought up a connection in my mind between lost young men & women--like Luke--and how a charismatic person can influence them.

We know Sylar would knock off the odd follower who had a useful power. or like Luke, would make a disciple.

I know, I was just teasing, I support what the Sarmy does.

Except for the plan for Zylar to secretly rule the contry through his puppet president, Mabes.

I have to disagree with most of you I'm afraid.

Sylar does not enjoy other people's company that much.

He only begrudgingly took Luke along because he needed to know about his father. He refused to stay with Elle knowing she would manipulate him. And he ran away from Noah (well chase Noah away actually).

He seems to want a family who cares for him, but at the same time he likes being alone.

He wants to be admired, bur I think at the same time the admiration would bore him after a while.

He's a fickle but highly entertaining character that Sylar

He wants to be in control of people. He could live alone like his hermit like father, Samson but in fact in "Shades of Grey" Sylar rejects the way Samson is living. In fact in "I Am Sylar" says how much afraid of being alone he iis n the guise of his mother. Its why he propositions the only other potential immortal he knows--Clair.

He didn't stay with Elle because he died twice for Elle and she could not be bothered to tell him the truth about

You're neglecting that in "Building 26" here Sylar rescues Luke from the Agents, AFTER Luke already gave Sylar his father's address. If he all he wanted from Luke was his father's address he would not have gone back for him.

Even people in the happiest family have this desire at times too. But what I think you mean is he seems to destroy any relationship he has and most of the time ends up killing or attempting to kill the person he is having a relationship with. This is another reason for his interest in Clair. He could toss her around like a doll, smashing her against a wall and he can't kill her. Clair solves a number of problems for him.

He still wants to be President as far as we know and the most Special Special on Earth. But I agree he is entertaining.

I suspect that Sylar is going to learn the art of manipulating, first a small group of people by observing Samuel, then thinks how he can use it against a Nation and nations.

Sylar still desires power because of his feelings of insignificance which he still has.

What about if he made himself into a god, and people gave him sacrifices? Then, it would be an "honor" to get your head sliced open!
Doombringer11
Sylar is insecure about himself.Insecure people often want to control everything around them so they cant get hurt.

I guess sylar could use the ole Stargate SG1 tactic and declare himself some greek god come to earth and some people would beleive him.
