When I think of all our shattered lives,
the fragments crashing together,
it becomes so clear to me...

Nothing will ever be the same.

Welcome one and all to the first Factions RPG here on 9thwonders.com! It's been mentioned around the site for awhile, but I finally forced myself to buck up and just do it! So, without further ado, let's just get on with it.

Shattered Fragments is, as I said, a Factions RPG. For anyone unfamiliar with the Heroes: Survival game, individual players (that's you and me and everyone else!) have been given the opportunity to create a number of their own original characters, each affected in some way by the recent activity of Building 26 during Volume Four: Fugitives of our show. Recently, we've also been given the opportunity to join groups of other players dubbed "Factions." Within these groups, players unite together for a common cause (whatever it may be). Together, they try face the hardships of their new life, just trying to be what they want. For the most part, we all just want to be normal. On the other hand, some people want more and they plan to get it.

Shattered Fragments is set after the factions have all gained a bit of a foothold in the world, after stabilizing themselves and getting everything figured out. Now it's time to take their ideals and goals with them as they make their way through new lives.

Onto the technical bits of the game. If you've been reading up on the Poll I placed in the Factions forum, you'll see a bit more information on the game. Basically, we'll be playing the game on an episodic basis, week to week. I will be GMing the game and "leading"* you throughout as you complete various missions that were created for the game. You'll be attempting to win the mission for your faction. As this is an attempt at realism and taking things a step further, we obviously can't have everything come out well for all of the Factions. Someone's gonna win and someone's gonna lose. Plain and simple.

You will be playing as only ONE of your Faction characters. Yes, I said ONE (1) character. While I know this won't be much of a problem for a few people, some people have many characters, upwards of 10 etc, and obviously we can't let one player have that much power. The one character rule has worked for many games I've played, I don't see why it can't work here as well.

BUT, on the other hand, you may have multiple characters in this game, but you may only use one of them at a time and can not switch between characters in the middle of a mission/week.

If you do make a new character, put their character sheet in the post in which your original character's sheet is in and then link me to it. The same rules apply to this character as your original one. They must be in a Faction and have a detailed history (etc).

Next, the RULES. Everyone loves rules and everyone wants needs to read them:

1. First off, no God-Modding, power gaming or metagaming. If you do not know what these words mean, let me define: No using your powers to extremes. No god-powers! You can't have a Hiro, Sylar, Ted, etc, type of character. No knowing stuff your character wouldn't know. No playing other people's characters. No killing someone else's characters without permission. If you do something I haven't listed here and try to be clever, it is unwritten but still a rule.

2. Spell correctly, use a decent amount of proper grammar and punctuation. Spell Check is your friend and as such, you should speak to him OFTEN.

3. You can't be a canon HEROES character or related to any canon characters. Only OC (Original Characters) are allowed.

4. This is an attempt at a bit of realism. Live your character's life like an actual life, like it really matters. Interact with other players how you'd interact in real life, and remember that every decision has consequences.

5. No rip offs. That means Ziro Takamura and Gylar are not allowed. Come up with your own ideas people! You can be evil or good, normal or special, but the one thing you can't be is uncreative!

6. Make decent posts, interact, don't have two line posts, and most definitely leave posts open. Remember that you are playing with other people and you WILL be included in the game as long as you include others.

7. No flaking or abandoning. If you want to leave, tell me by PM or IM. My IM name for AIM is SgtHappySlap (Laugh it up, you know you want to).

8. Keep it PG13 by following the fan fic guidelines that also apply to RP and follow the board rules.

9. Remember the Disconnect. The Player is not The Character. I for one am a guy, and my characters are evenly split gender wise. I have never shape-shifted, nor killed anyone, nor done drugs. I take this very far, and very to heart. If something happens to your character, you need to not take it personally.

10. Work things out (continuity errors, questions etc.) in the OOC/Out-Of-Character thread (this thread), please. If you have a problem with another player then PM that person and try to solve the situation in a civil manner. If I feel that the problem is affecting the game, I WILL get involved. If you want to chat, please use this thread for that as well. Leave the story posts where they belong and keep everything that is OOC here.

11. GM (Me, Requiem191) has final say in any and all issues.

12. Rules can be changed at any moment should someone try something funny.

13. There is a small chance that your character may die in this game. Just like in real life, if you get into a life-threatening situation and don't handle it properly, things can go bad. Remember though, you'll be working as a team for the most part with your other Faction members. Plus, if you're smart, you should be able to get out of most situations easily enough. If a character dies, it was either because the player wanted that character gone or because of something else probably involving me, yours truly. (Don't worry, I don't kill other people's characters... too often.)

14. We are going to use the TAG System for this game. Anyone who's played EotW or FoM will know how to use this system. At the beginning of each post, you will place any pertinent information that needs to be known (I.E. Location and Time and your character's name). At the end of each post, you will TAG the Player that you want to respond to your post. Here's an example post:

New York - Pinehearst Laboratory
Week 7

IC: Peter Petrelli

"I thought we killed you!" Peter yelled out as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man charged towards the Heroes.

TAG: Requiem191

And that's the TAG System. It's easy to use, so no worries.

15. Have fun!

~~~~~~~~~~
Now that you've read the Rules (you did read them right? Alright then, I believe you, but don't think I won't keep an eye on you!), we need to go over one of the most important aspects of the game and, more importantly, your character.
What I'm about to show you is the Character Sheet for Shattered Fragments. A Character Sheet displays all pertinent information for your character leading up to the very beginning of this game. That means I want to see everything, absolutely every important detail, of your character's life. If your character has a giant scar on his left leg, I want to know why. Was it because he fell off his bike and down a hill at a young age or because he was trapped in a fire fighting off Building 26 Agents? These things are important because they give life to your character! Let us know everything you think is important. Don't hold back! Just copy the sheet from this post and paste it into a reply to this topic and fill it out! Now, here's the Character Sheet:
Miscellaneous Info (Anything else we need to know):
~~~~~~~~~~

Currently, the game will be about the Pinehearst Files that have crept their little heads back into the light. You (and hopefully your other factions members) will first be attempting to gain access to them. As we know, only one group can win! Who will that be? How will we figure it out? Well, at first I thought I'd just go ahead and be the one to judge on who did the best throughout the missions/weeks, but I can see a flaw in that plan. My members will, hopefully, be playing this game. If they are, I'd be inclined to see them win. Personally, I wouldn't admit this, but I know that someone might point out my being unfair. To counter this, I've come up with a different solution.

As a whole, we will all vote on who we feel did the best each week. Obviously, this means you will all have to be mature about this and be fair to everyone else. From what I know of 9thwonders and its members, this won't be a problem. I have faith that all of you will be fair to everyone else and not vote for yourself constantly.

So, with that said, I'm not sure what else to do! I think I'll leave this to you and let you post your thoughts and feelings on the game. I'm always ready to hear whatever anyone has to say, and now is no different!
WickedM
One! ONE! Damn! Now who do I chose? The youger of the Aarden sisters, Dahlia, the evil sister Lily, or the one mentioned in the iStory?....UGH!!!
Requiem191
Sorry Wicked, lol. Though, I think I may have a solution, in case this is a problem for multiple people. (I may just let people have 1 character per Faction that they're in, but if things get too out of hand, we may have problems.)

Woohoo! I haven't actually done an RPG since I was 17 or 18, so I'm terribly excited about this!

I've only really done RPG's on a one to one basis so far. It was a send and reply, lickety-split kind of thing where we planned out what we wanted to accomplish before we began, then just fleshed the story out. I'm new to the forum-style, multiple user RPG's, so please be kind and point me in the right direction if I do something silly or break any of the rules. I might hold back for a round or two and see how things are done, then I'll jump in. Which actually raises a question. How late is too late to join a particular RPG?
Zensu14
My main problem is that I have two characters on separate factions (because they won't let me put two to a faction, apparently) and they're brothers.

In general, it depends on the GM (Game Master) of the RPG you're looking to sign up for. While you'll be applying for the overall RPG, you can always jump out from week to week whenever you feel you need to and then jump right back in whenever you feel is best.

That's strange. I have two characters in the Undaunted faction right now. You may wanna try again and see what happens.

Though to be honest, you know your character's info. if he's meant to be in one Faction but for some reason is in another, then just go ahead and say that in your character sheet. The actual gameplay elements of the Survival game aren't too important. You're overall story for your character is.

If some gameplay element is stopping you from having your character be the way you want your character to be, then, well... ignore that particular gameplay element! haha We'll have to take this case by case though. You can't tell me that your character is meant to be in the StreetLife Faction when he or she is instead in the Unity Faction. Hope that's clear to everyone.

Character Sheet

Name: Lin Meng (uses 'Meng' since Asian names list Surname first)
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Height: 5'1"
Weight: 125 lbs (with strong muscles gained through years of street fighting)
Hair: (Style and Color): black, and parted straight to the back, three inches past shoulder length
Eyes: Black, 20/20 vision
Hometown: Hong Kong, China
Faction: StreetLife
Worldview: Neutral

Personal History:
Meng was born and raised in Langme, China, a city in northwestern China with some of the worst air quality of all China. Meng lived with her older brother and parents in a housing complex built for the workers of a petrochemical plant where her parents were employed.

When she was ten, the plant had an accident that destroyed most of the plant and the nearby housing complex in a toxic explosion that released many harmful chemicals. During the blast of the explosion, Meng manifested her ability and transformed herself into a gaseous vapor, which was thrown high into the sky where she obtained a clear view of the devastation below. Horrified and not yet in full control of her powers, Meng rematerialized herself in mid-air and came crashing down, bouncing off rubber tires of the next door tire factory. Chinese rescue workers found her lying nude, and unconscious, on the ground and took her to the hospital. When she awoke three days later with a few broken bones, she was told both her parents were killed in the explosion, and that her brother was reportedly severely injured and still in a coma. However, she was not allowed to visit her brother and he somehow went missing before she was permitted to see him.The government transferred Meng to a new family to live with, but they did not want to raise a girl so quickly kicked her out into a life on the streets. She then discovered that she could control her ability and used it to steal and survive a life of crime.

Meng's exploits eventually led her to move to Hong Kong, China, where she helped the Triad with drug trafficking in exchange for information about her brother. When she learned the Triad wasn't ever going to give her the info., she killed several top leaders to learn only that he had been taken by a now disbanded American company called Primatech. She continues to deal in smuggling and assassinations while searching for leads on her brother's whereabouts. Some of the members of the Triad gangs she toppled now work for her.

In the same file about Primatech that listed her brother, Meng discovered the identities of many people with abilities. After doing some research, she contacted and recruited a faction of individuals of a similar background of having grown up on the streets for a faction known as StreetLife.

Miscellaneous Info (Anything else we need to know):
Ability: Corrosive sublimation - Meng has the ability to transform herself into and from a gaseous mist. While in mist form, she can seep through tight spaces and burn through most materials. She has advanced her ability to the point that she can also sublimate her clothes and other objects she is touching up through person size. If part of her mist is cut off, she is still able to regenerate back into her human form. While in human form, Meng has an immunity to most toxins. Limitations: Meng must be able to reform entirely or revert back into mist form. Thus, she cannot reform or dematerialize just part of her body (i.e. just an arm or hand). Sublimation normally allows for flight, but not at supersonic speeds. Meng's mist is visible as a kind of shadowy form, but people can still see through it. Meng's ability should allow her some resistance to cold temperatures, but not complete immunity. When the temperature is lower where Meng is located, the amount of time her ability can keep her in mist form should decrease (in other words, no transatlantic/transpacific flights without a lot of island hopping, and vulnerability to CO2 fire extinguishers since the CO2 is kept cold via pressure {the water and chemical foam fire extinguisher types are not kept so cold so would not normally affect her}). On the flip side, Meng is fully capable of traveling with the hottest of vapors and even through fires for as long as she wishes. Corrosion through metals leaves Meng in an exhausted state, but it's possible for her to do with time.

Personality: Clever - she thinks things through before acting, and often overanalyzes a situation.

Skills:
As an assassin, and smuggler/thief, Meng has learned alot about munitions, making her the street equivalent of a military munitions expert. She has also been in enough fights to know who not to mess with and is a good judge of character. In terms of fighting skill, Meng knows multiple forms of martial arts and fights with a unique mix of of taekwondo and karate. She has grown up on the streets and is barely making it through life, monetarily. Being on the streets most her life, she's not very book smart and is terrible at math. She can count things like money, but don't ask her to do complex arithmetics.

Ethnicity: Chinese, Languages: mainly Mandarin, Cantonese, and some English, but also understands some Korean and Japanese.

==============================================
Phew, I hope that's good enough. I tried to balance the ability with limitations, but if you think it's still too powerful, please let me know.

EDIT> Fixed spacing, trimmed duplicate info.
UPDATE 9/6/09> fixed typos, clarified about fire extinguisher types; click here for info. about fire extinguishers

Character Sheet

Name: Drew Decker

Gender: Male

Age: 24

Height: 5'11

Weight: 178

Hair: Messy/Dirty Blonde

Eyes: Green

Hometown: Los Angeles

Faction: Undaunted

Worldview: Heroic

Personal History: Drew is the son of self made millionaire Jeremy Decker. When Drew got older his relationship with his father grew further apart. His father wanted desperately for Drew to take over the family business but Drew didn't want any part of it. Drew had made other plans of venturing out and seeing the world, but It wasn't till the summer Drew was leaving for Europe that he discovered his ability after the Eclipse. Drew and his father had come to terms that they would put this pointless feud behind them, and meet in the park for lunch before Drew left for Europe. They sat in the park laughing and talking when Drew realized it was now 7:30pm and his plane left in less then a hour.

Drew and his father said their goodbyes but Drew couldn't help but notice a strange man standing by a tree in the far distance watching them. As Drew turned away from his father to hail a taxi something made him turn back around to see the man approaching his father with a gun, the man calmly directed Drew's father to follow him out of site. When Drew saw this he dropped his bags and ran back as fast as he could when turned the corner then man quickly shoved Drew's father to the ground and shot. Drew lifted his arms and as he did two giant tree roots tore free from the earths dirt deflecting the bullet. The mugger in pure terror dropped the the gun and the wallet took off running.

Drew slowly lowered his arms and as he did the tree roots went back down into the soil. Drew walked over to his father and knelt down to help him up, but as soon as he reached for him his father pulled back. "Don't you touch me!" his father said firmly. Drew looked at him confused as his father picked himself up and walked quickly away from him.

Since then Drew has not spoken with his father, but his father has made several attempts to patch things up with Drew by putting large sums of money in his account, but money can't by you love or respect. Drew has now used that money to help hide and move others like himself with hopes of giving them a fresh start.

Miscellaneous Info (Anything else we need to know): Drew has a nervous habit before using his powers of consistently moving the fingers on his right hand when his arms are at his side. Also because of his father Drew may be hounded by the paparazzi at times which makes for keeping a low profile hard.

Ability: Vegetational Manipulation allows him the ability to control the actions of plant life around him.
e.g: Use tree roots for shields, or lock your enemy in a cage of roots. Move trees, or bushes to cover your trail. Turn your every day rose garden into a twisted weapon of choice. Use vines to entangle your enemy, or use it to get a lift out of enemy site. Control two giant trees like fly swatters on your foes. Being able to take a seed or a sprout and rapidly increase it's growth cycle to a adult. A tree or plant that is already an adult will wither and die.
(hope that helps.)

Limitations: Plant life must be nearby (Drew does keep a marble pouch necklace filled with several types of tree seeds for emergencies.)

Personality: Easy going and has a big heart which may also work against him.

Ethnicity: Caucasian
Requiem191
First off, sorry everyone! I forgot to place the Personality, Ability, and Ethnicity points in the character sheet, lol. Those are all pretty important, no? haha

Volts - Nice character. Very well done and very interesting. Her ability isn't too powerful, though you may want to edit the part about Meng being able to go into any type of heat when using her ability. In my opinion, since she's becoming a gas/vapor, she should be affected by different temperatures. As we know from basic science in school, Heat is merely the application of energy where as cold is the lack of energy. When Meng is using her ability, she would technically be fine in normal room temperature, but if she were put into extreme heat or extreme cold, that's when it could be bad for her, if she's using her power that is. In extreme cold, she freezes practically into ice. If she's in extreme heat, she'd evaporate. Both would potentially kill her. That's only if she's using her ability though. I don't see a human turning into ice or evaporating into thin air when in Alaska or in Mexico.

That's what I suggest to ya. Make it to where she's fine in her human form, but she's limited on where she can use her ability. That would also make her a big target for Cryokinetics or Pyrokinetics. They could easily mess Meng up if you're not careful (though the great thing is, you're character is clever and smart. you should be able to find a way to turn your disadvantage into an advantage).

Anyways, these are all just suggestions to ya that I noticed. Obviously, it's all up to you what you do to your character's ability. If it becomes a problem, we can always work things out, though I don't see anything bad really happening.

Oh yeah, you're approved for the game. laugh.gif

Decker - You may wanna add in the things I neglected to post up for your character sheet, namely the personality and Ability sections. I'd like to see a detailed description of your character's power. Also, try using the enter key a little! tongue.gif In your character's personal history, it was kinda hard to read since it was just a big block of text. Space it up a bit and you'll do fine in the game. smile.gif You are approved for the game.

I think that's been changed... biggrin.gif I actually was wonderin' where the other bro had been hangin' out at.

I suppose if ya requested at some other faction, they may have been more selective than others, though.

Hey Requiem191, just hoping to get my character into this story, lol. Well anyways here he is, i hope you approve.

Character Sheet

Name:Casey Kane

Gender:Male

Ethnicity:Hispanic descent from his mothers side

Age:24

Height:5Ft 10in

Weight:178lbs

Hair: Fade haircut, Dark Short hair

Eyes:Brown

Personality:Casey is mostly Humble when acting around other people, but when his friends lives are in danger, he's roaring to go and do something. When the dust clears and everything seems to be okay, he'll gladly sit down with you and drink a beer.

Hometown:Austin, Texas

Faction:Unity

Worldview: Heroic/Neutral

Personal History:Casey is the son of an ordinary family of five where he is the oldest sibling. When he was only twelve he had a small argument with his sister which is when his ability had manifested when he turned his sisters hair from black to blond. At first he was shocked at what had happened and tried to repress his own ability. His own inability to control his ability scared him as his sister's hair change seemed to be permanent.

He became a very secluded and introverted person, often viewed as an outcast for his lack of interaction with the rest of his class all through most of high school. Until his junior year when his class visited a local children s hospital.

As he tried to avoid being the butt of another joke for the rest of the class, he stumbled into a room that contained a small boy by the name of David. David was hooked up to monitors and a respirator as he was unable to breathe on his own. Casey felt compelled to speak with the small child, finding out of his condition, Atrial septal defect (ASD), which was the reason why he couldn't breathe on his own. As Casey sat there, his concern for the child's well being overwhelming him, his ability fully manifested. Casey stood up shocked on what he was seeing in front of him. Blocks of different colors appeared, similar to that of tetris, and as he calmed down his mind was rewarded with a fountain of information. He understood what the blocks were, they were the blocks of life. and as he observed further he knew what genes with the child's DNA were the cause of his affliction.

He stepped forward as David closed his eyes to rest, and placed his hand on his bare chest, and focused on altering the blocks that were hurting him. after a few minutes in which David made a pained face, he opened his eyes and laughed a little.

Casey never forgot the words that David told him that day, "I knew it, you're an angel. I know cause now I can breath again." So as Casey rode home, he knew he had a gift that was meant to help people. He opened up to people now that he didn't feel cursed, and became a good friend, always a dependable person. Little did he know how much things would change.

Ability:Genetic Manipulation- It allows Casey to analyze someones DNA and alter it. He's found he can alter his own genetics but has found that this process tires him out even more than if he altered someone else. The process also takes a lot longer to manifest in him than it does in other people he uses his ability on.

Miscellaneous Info (Anything else we need to know):Casey has a few friends he knows may have an ability( they have the genes but have not manifested their abilities yet) but has one who does. He tried to replicate his friends ability of teleportation, with success. but as he found out, the process is tiring as well as painful, so he refrains from replicating abilities if he can. He's still okay to change his appearance. He has used his ability to change others (his sister more specifically changing her hair color or eye color as an apology for the aforementioned incident) and has used it to remove someones ability once, receiving a large gash across his back as a result of the struggle.

That's about it, I tried not to make it too easy for my character to "copy" abilities. Still he will if he has too, but probably only before anything dicey happens. Still let me know if there is anything i should change Req, kay?

So when do we start the story? oh and is it okay to mention another character a bit,(for example i have two Klick and Blampf and they know each other) just to have the story make sense a bit. Because I had an idea on how to start the story a bit.

My sheet was here, but I'm still deciding, I think.

Zen - I have 2 in one faction also maybe it was a temporary glitch?

I'll have my sheet up tomorrow - thinking I'll start out with Mags since they started a storyline for her - if that's okay that is.

Lily, and maybe Dahlia (their on different factions I think) will soon follow biggrin.gif

I guess ill start the story then.

Well, thanks for the suggestions, Requiem! But since you approved her as-is, I think I'll leave her sheet as I've currently written it. My reasoning is that when she is using her ability, she is technically a vapor meaning heating her will add energy to her particles, making her stronger; and by Boyle's Law, her volume should expand--this can have consequences for those around her, as her mist is corrosive, but it shouldn't be harmful to her. By virtue of this immunity, she was able to survive the chemical explosion in her youth--it's part of her story.

I think we agree on the reasoning for limitation for cold... besides the less energy, gases condensate into liquids and/or solids when they get cold, thus she should be forced to revert to human form if she's cold enough. This makes her vulnerable to a cryogenic power like the former power held by Tracy Strauss, or even a simple fire extinguisher (the CO2 variety). I think that's enough of a weakness. Looking forward to starting! cool.gif

Klick, this is the OOC (Out of character) thread - we can't start the story in this thread; also, it's normally up to the GM, in this case Requiem, to start the story thread.

EDIT> WickedM, just so you know, your character(s) can die here and it doesn't affect what happens in the iStory or in Heroes Survival. This is a parallel universe, if you will, where whatever happens here is just for fun and is not canon. So if you are scared to bring in Mags for that reason, you don't have to be.

My Bad. Sorry about that. Thanks for letting me know. I'll go ahead and take it out, once again sorry.

Mm. Me likes. I'll just hi-jack my own char sheet from the bio topic and post it here:

QUOTE ("T6T")
Name: Victor Stan Mizzy
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Appearance: [Soon to come.]
Ethnicity: Caucasian/Asian/Hispanic? (He was originally American, but the DNA grafted onto him was from a Vietnamese/Peruvian origin).
Hometown: Manhattan
Clothing: Random casual stuff.

Personality:
Currently rather confused of what's going on, Victor tends to be a lot more reclusive, unsure of what exactly to do - in a strange new world such as this, where everybody has strange abilities, some powerful enough to kill with a single touch. Mostly hanging with The Group, he is mostly comfortable amongst them, sure that most of them simply wants help, though he still feels suspicious of... some.

Outside, in the real world, he is even more suspicious and restless, always afraid of revealing his powers, or stumbling upon one who decided that s/he would like to randomly blow up the place when Victor's there. Hence, really, he just stays with the group most of the time, but he knows that his ability isn't so bad on the power-scale of things, so he isn't hesitant when it comes to actually doing things to help the Group, or, finding out about his past.

History:
Chapter 0:
Victor Stan Mizzy was a child born with an ability from the moment of birth, one of enhanced hearing. However, it did not manifest in him to the degree as like those of Dale Smither. In fact, it only allows him to discern certain notes and beats well. However, this, in fact, is a blessing, as it did not plague him like it plagued him. In fact, it turned him into a natural musical genius.

Though he had shown signs, it was only when he was four that people truly noticed his talents, when he was constantly seen to turn random noise into strange, soothful melodies.

Quickly enough, he was brought to professionals and soon enough, he began to learn how to play proper instruments.

By the age of 17, he had mastered a rather large array of instruments, quickly adapting whenever a new one is presented to him. He was on his way to become a composer.

By the age of 22, he had became a rather famous music composer. This was also when he met his girlfriend, Ophelia Small. And, also when his life was completely changed.

One day, whilst walking through a random dark alley, he was shot from behind with a tranquilizer, and well, fell unconscious. From there, he was captured and brought away to a secret location, located in New Jersey.

There, experiments was done on him and DNA was grafted on him, removing what his captors think was an useless ability, to replace it with an ability they deemed was more useful. Through random chance, he was given the ability of hydrosynthesis.

Content on their experiment, his captors released him into the world, back into Manhattan to see how their 'experiment' would react. His memory from before the capture was completely gone, though his linguistics still remained more or less intact.

All that he had with him was a single brief-case with some clothe, and a file on him, full of information concerning the experiments.

And now, he would re-enter the world.

Evolved Human Ability: Hydrosynthesis
Hydrosynthesis is a limited form of Alchemy, whereby Azedenkae can cause atoms to split into sub-atomic particles (namely Neutrons, Protons and Electrons), and rearrange them directly into water (H20). It can be used on pretty much any substance, and the effects are immediate, without any release of extra energy.

Some clues of his old power remains.
BigBeans
Name: Derian Gilmore
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: Caucasian, Scottish decent.
Age: 33
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 160 lbs with athletic build; lean and muscular.
Hair: Auburn, cut short and kept tidy with a spiky bang.
Eyes: Blue
Personality: Clever. Derian would rather take a step back and analyze a situation, rather than rushing headlong and reacting once there. He loves to ask questions and gather information.
Hometown: Hartford, Connecticut
Faction: Unity
Worldview: Heroic

Ability: Mediumship; the ability to see and communicate with ghosts, spirits and poltergeists.

Personal History: Derian is a third generation Scotsman, born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut. Known for his curiosity, Derian was always the child to touch what he was told not to touch, do what he wasn't supposed to do, and explore places that were prohibited. These actions were not born from any sort of rebellion; it was a simple desire to gain knowledge and understand the world around him. This trait, his mother had explained to many people, was gained from his father, a journalist and fellow seeker of information. From his mother, a nurse, Derian learned not only compassion for his fellow man, but firmness in the face of adversity.

It was only natural, then, that Derian exceeded in school. He soared through school largely unnoticed, except by his teachers, all of whom found Derian at the top of their classes. He wasn't popular enough to gain the scorn from the dregs of the social ladder, nor was he uncool enough to face any sort of serious bullying. Throughout high school, Derian surrounded himself with a core group of level-headed, well rounded individuals; an eclectic smattering of people that he would remain close with through life.

When Derian chose to study journalism, his parents were thrilled, if unsurprised. In was in University that Derian bloomed. He was devoted to his studies, but didn't let them impede on his social life. He took classes between lovers and lovers between classes. After four years of school spirit, dalliances and exams, Derian earned his degree. Through his enthusiasm, work ethic and charm (and a little insider contact from his father), Derian soon scored a job working for the Hartford Courant, the local newspaper. It was there that he met a spunky young intern named Grace, and it was she that he would eventually marry.

It was only after the birth of their first child, Kirsty, that Derian's ability began to manifest. It started with disembodied voices. He could hear them whispering as he drove to work, as he took a shower and as he slept. Sometimes it was nothing but gibberish, other times the voices were clear and precise. He thought that perhaps the birth of his daughter had left him overtired, leading to an overactive imagination or slight hallucinations. When things began to escalate, however, Derian knew that something was amiss. Apparitions began appearing to him, standing at the foot of his bed or popping up at work. Although these beings terrified him, Derian tried to focus on his home life and his work, but it wasn't easy. His boss became suspicious and asked him what the problem was. Derian explained what was happening, and admitted that he didn't know what it was or why it was happening. Before he got a chance to do research, however, he received a warning. A text from somebody named REBEL told him he was in danger and gave him a contact number. It was from this contact that Derian learned of evolved humans, abilities and the government operation to capture them. After this deluge of information, the contact gave him a name; a woman. This woman was supposed to help him, to hide him, to call together a group of people and unify them against a common enemy. A faction leader. Derian had no choice but to make contact.

Miscellaneous Info (Anything else we need to know): Because of the newness of the world of abilities and the immediate flee for freedom, Derian has had very little time to understand and control his ability. He is often seen with deep, heavy bags under his eyes; a sign of exhaustion from late night hauntings and constant use of his ability.

Hopefully this is what was expected of me! tongue.gif

Nice back story Bigbeans, I hope we cold start the story soon, but i'll be patient.

No worries, I'm a vetran of this RPG section wink.gif Mags started out as a character for an game here in fact - last we saw her she was drugged, strapped down to a table and waiting rescue, but that was another life smile.gif
WickedM
Name: Magdalena Muller (Mags)
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Ability: Duplication – can make multiple copies of herself
Personality: smart, curious, adventuresome
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Nationality: American
Hometown: Key Largo, Florida
Faction: Undaunted
Worldview: bounces between Altruistic, Clever and Aggressive

Current Location: Kidnapped in Florida somewhere wink.gif

Hair Color/Style: Long red hair, past her shoulders, usually worn in a messy bun or in loose waves
Eye Color: smoky blue
Build/Height: 5’ 5”
Appearance: Mags was not the typical island girl with flowing red tresses and fair complexion that freckled instead of tanned. She has a relaxed and adventurous nature that comes through in her choice of wardrobe. Worn jeans, shorts, cargo pants, easy and comfortable shirts and one dress that she can shove into the corner of her pack and have it come out perfect to wear for any event.

Special Skills: she tinkers with stuff when they need fixing, scuba diver (she loved to dive the wrecks and often found odd items), rock climbing, hiking, surfing, she’s an outdoor girl who grew up a little wild.

Personal History:
Mags is the daughter of an estate manager (fancy name for head groundskeeper), and a housekeeper for a fancy resort in the Florida Keys.

Life growing up for her had some advantages people outside of the extensive and lavish resort wouldn’t get. Mags was taught many skills by the pros and locals hired to entertain or take the guests on excursions. She was a fast learner and always craved more.

As Mags got older her more adventurous aspirations then found they could not longer be contained. She started off to college working toward a degree in marine archeology. It didn’t take long for the money to start running out. Mags didn’t want her parents to have to foot the bill so she started picking up work here and there. In her down times she would fit in a few classes and finally graduated.

The one thing her family and friends never realized was that Mags had developed special talent for being in several places at once. It happened by accident really, it was a day when she was under extreme stress from school, work and the capper was an emergency at the resort. At the same time she was being directed by the head lifeguard to get the resort doctor, she had to meet at the dock for a class dive to a local wreck that her grade hinged on, and finally the timeline for a job was fast approaching. Feeling stressed Mags broke down in her room while she was rushing to leave. Giving into the need a cry, she quickly buried her head in her arms, to try and relieve the stress. She was startled when hands reached out to comfort her, and even more so to find there were two identical copies of herself.

Klick - Thanks for the enthusiasm, but we'll be doing the game in a different thread. This one here, the OOC (Out Of Character) thread, is for everything not related to the actual story. This is the place to sign up for the game, get info on what's happening, and chat with your other players.

Also, wait for me to make the thread, 'kay? andoface3.gif

Sorry, but your character needs to be one that is in the Heroes: Survival game, mainly due to the fact that you need to have a Faction. As long as you can give me a Faction that you're character is a part of, I'm sure you're character will be approved. wink.gif

Beans - Good job on the sheet! I like the way your backstory flowed together. Now, this is just a suggestion, but you think we could have a little tragedy in there? I mean, the voices he hears and sees mess his life up enough, but his old life isn't really shattered if you get my meaning. wink.gif You don't have to change anything if you don't want to, but maybe have him lose/quit his job or have a tearful goodbye with his family who don't understand what's happening yet need to be left behind in order to keep them safe... etc etc. lol Just a suggestion that's all. Totally don't have to do that. Your character is approved either way!

Wicked - Do I even need to approve you Wicked? laugh.gif Anyways, I don't think we'll be going near Florida for awhile, so the Main Mags may be by herself for awhile. :/ Maybe have a short fan fic on how she escapes? biggrin.gif Anyways, if you wanna leave her there for now, we may find the time to go and "save" her (meaning, she may be a mission in the future, I dunno, just fishing for ideas). All that aside, your character is approved!

Thanks for that Volts, but as you'll soon see, Wicked can handle herself when it comes to RPing. smile.gif

This did lead me to updating Rule 13 though. The one involving death of characters. Here you go, this is how it stands now:

QUOTE
(Don't worry, I don't kill other people's characters... too often.)

I'm role-playing StreetLife's first faction hideout as being in a community called Black Rises, in Jacksonville, FL. Since we're role-playing events like what happened at the start of factions, WickedM can just use a replicant of Mags, possibly the one that eventually wound up in Costa Verde, like Requiem suggested, for this first mission. But since you are fishing for ideas, I thought I'd throw that out there as a possible connection for such a future rescue mission. cool.gif
BlueAngel
Name: Liam Angel (formerly Liam Smith)

Gender: Male

Ethnicity: American

Age: 38

Height: 6' 1"

Weight: 130 lbs

Hair: Short, a little spiky, Brown

Eyes: Brown, in sunlight appears gray

Personality: Aggressive - Liam tends to get into conflicts and mostly gets into fights (verbal and non-verbal) with co-workers and random people who p***ed him off in the streets.

Hometown: Los Angeles, CA

Faction: StreetLife

Worldview: Neutral

Personal History: Liam was born in 1969 on March 23rd. He grew up in a family with parents who disapproved of his "actions" with fellow friends at school. Liam and his friends would always trash houses and destroy cars whenever they felt like it. His father would usually find Liam coming home late with the smell of alcohol and cigarettes around him and yell at Liam for not setting a good example for his little sister, Kathy. Liam would try to explain that the smell came from his friends, but his father wouldn't listen. William (Liam's father) threatened to kick Liam out of the house if he wouldn't stop hanging out with his friends. Liam simply shrugged off this threat because all his father said were empty words. These "empty threats" continued for many years and a few times William actually locked Liam out of the house. After these times where Liam was locked out of the house, he (Liam) started doing more serious crimes like shop-lifting. When William found out about this, he punched Liam several times for his crimes.

At 20, Liam became sick of his disapproving parents (mostly his father) and faked his death. While his family was "mourning", he entered their house easily as they let him in because they believed he had become an "angel". Liam first killed his father for being the most disapproving of his parents, then his mother, and finally his little sister. He then left to live on the streets, having no money or a job. At 25, because of his newly developed photographic memory, he remembered every detail of his family's deaths. Liam slowly felt a growing sense of guilt for killing his family and tried to stay away from good and evil to avoid violence. He still kept living off of stolen money and small amounts of food from a nearby bakery. At 27, Liam discarded his real last name and took on the last name of Angel to prevent people from tracking down his villainous past and arresting him. In the same year, Liam created a detective agency called Angel Investigations designed to help the helpless. He uses his agency as a cover so that everybody thinks that he is a good person. Liam has a habit to wear a black suit frequently in order to, once again, keep up his "good" image.

Ability: Photographic Memory - Liam can see an image and remember it permanently unless it is erased from his mind. This image appears to him as a frozen image, like a photograph of sorts. He can recall images in a chain and if he is reminded of something, the image will force its way to Liam's mind, whether he wants it to or not.

Miscellaneous Info (Anything else we need to know): Liam uses his ability to remember locations and people and can usually recall any criminals in an instant.

Hey the charecter I made for UE was based of my one and only survival char., but I shall make some slight adjustments(mostly age and some new history that comes with it). So hopefully this will be ok.

EDIT: Charecter is no longer a drunk, haha, but glad to know that there could be alchohol.

Name: Jason Canon

Gender: Male

Age: 22

Ethnicity: Half-Hispanic

Hight: 5' 9"

Weight: 155 but it varies, and he is a fairly lean build

Hair: Black medium-short hair, usually has it gel'ed and spiked forward.

Eyes:He has light brown eyes and tends to switch between glasses and contacts, depending on his mood.

Personality: A day dreamer, creative, he is usually an optamist and tends to be the mediator between his friends, however, he is also very emotional but tends to supress his emotions since he feels that there is enough sad people in the world and there isnt much need for another one. Is generally friendly and thinks of other above himself. This can sometimes cause him to have some lack in self-confidance but he usually gets over this quickly. Because he spends a lot of time day dreaming, he can sometimes miss certain social cues, this makes him seem weird to those that dont know him.

Hometown: Phoenix, Arizona(currently in New York City)

Faction: Phoenix Alliance

World View: Heroic

Personal History: Jason was born and raised in Arizona, he had a good group of friends, most of them he knew since they were little kids. He was always a fairly good student, not super great with his work ethic, but he understood whatever the classes taught better then most. He was content with his life and everything around it, except for his home life. when he was 16 his parents started arguing again( the last time it was this bad was when he was around 7), finally they decided it was best if they split up, his mother stayed in arizona, along with his two younger sisters, and Jason wanted to stay too, but he couldnt bare to leave his Dad by himself, so they packed their stuff and moved as far away as their mother could stand...New York City.
They moved to a small two bedroom apartment near the center of the city, Jason's dad worked for a BioTechnology Corporation that had a facility in New York so the transfer was fairly smooth. He became accustom to the city life and shortly after the move his power manifested. He practiced with his power very diligently as a teenager, only using his power at night so he wouldn't attract attention. He was also a fairly good student and whent to college at NYU. During this time Jason met others with abilities and also found out about Building 26, soon many of his "special" friends began to dissapear.
During his 3rd year of college he decided to take a visit back to Arizona to his his Mom and two sisters, in hopes this would put him off the radar for a little bit. While he was there he discovered that many people with abilities have started to join togeather to acheive there goals, the were calling these groups Factions. Some tied to recruite Jason, however he wasn't really sure if this was such a good idea, so he refused them.
One Faction didn't like the rejection and wanted to make a statement about Jason's desire to not take part in the cause. So one night as he was staying with his Mom and two sisters, this evil Faction broke in and killed his mother and two sisters. Jason used his power to trick them and escape.

This tragedy has made Jason realize that he cannot sit around and do nothing, he has an ability and he needs to use it to change the world for the better, and to stop those that try to do harm. One his return to New York Jason joined the Phoenix Aliance in an effort to make ammends with his past, and to make sure no other families could be hurt by the obstacles abilities can bring.

Ability: Astral Projection- Jason is able to project an image of himself to a different location in a material form. This works by sending his "spirit" out of his body and creating a tangible form. He then operates this body with his mind, this takes such concentration that it leaves his body immobile, and places himself in almost a sleeping state.

This astral body is not indistructable it can be damaged just like any other body, however, it is not "living" and is made of pure energy therefore if the astral body were to be badly damaged(this does not have to be death, just a sever wound), this would cause it to dematerialize and force the user awake, making him much more fatigued and weakened then if he were to make the astral body go away on his own. Currently Jason is only able to project himself anywhere in a 5 mile radius. Jason may also move his astral body from one place to another(in a sense teleporting it) however only by short distances. Jason is currently working on Atral Projecting small objects as projectiles. However these objects are only sustainable for a few minutes, and he must have a clear image of the object in his mind.

Amplification: Jason's ability becomes slightly more powerful only under two conditions(aside ofcourse from being supercharged by another ability).
1. When Jason naturally falls asleep he is able to send his astral body to wider distances, along with being able to keep the body from reaching a tangible form, thus making it invisible, but not able to move anything, or interact with the rest of the world.

Misc: He is most certainly not a trained fighter, but one of his friends from Arizona took some self-defense martial arts classes and showed him a few moves. He mostly relies on his spur of the moment ingenuity and out-of-the-box thinking to get himself out of a pinch.

---------------------------------------------------

Hope I haven't made him too poweful or anything, I figured since he has had the ability for 5 years and has practiced with it a lot, by now he would have some advancements(especially considering a few of the Heros charecters get crazy advancements in the powers after only short periods of time). But if anything is a problem please let me know

Personal History: Liam was born in 1969 on March 23rd. He grew up in a family with parents who disapproved of his "actions" with fellow friends at school. Liam and his friends would always trash houses and destroy cars whenever they felt like it.

Sorry, but I fail to see how your character can be Altruistic if he killed his family. Also, why did he kill them? Just because they didn't like what he did? Also, the amount of time between the present and the time Liam killed his family is pretty long. The past would surely have come back to bite him by now. I mean, his friends would have had to help him fake his death, right? They would know what happened or at least guess at it, in my opinion.

So, my main problem is whether or not you're character's a good guy or bad guy. I mean, he starts off bad, kills his family for apparently no reason, then feels guilty and decides to not be bad. Then he creates a detective agency with what exactly? Also, it seems his new detective job is just a cover-up for his past and to convince others he's a good guy. if that's true, then that means he's a bad guy, right?

There's just a lot of stuff that isn't exactly clear to me about Liam. If you could go ahead and explain some stuff, that would help a lot. I'm just a little puzzled is all...

So hopefully this will be ok, also, is my charecter aloud to get drunk? I wanted to be able to tie this in with his ability, so if he isnt then I will change it.

2. When Jason is intoxicated(drunk) he becomes less tied down to mental conentration thus allowing him to create an astral body WITHOUT becoming unconcious, however his astral body will be perfectly fine, while his real body will become even more inebriated(super drunk if you will) due to the shift in mental focus.

I don't really have a problem with him drinking (it might not help your Faction too much if you're always drunk though, haha), but I do have a problem with his drinking enhancing his ability. Alcohol isn't really meant to help people, especially since it's a "downer," and it certainly wouldn't help someone to use their ability better, at least in my mind.

I'm fine with drinking, but not as a way to enhance your ability. Other than that, your character is approved.

From an early age Briar had a fasination with gardening and sports. Pursuits that both parents coud be proud of and fully supported Briar in from the very beginning.

Briar's relationship with the rest of his family was a mix of playful antagonist and patient peace keeper. As he was the second eldest his younger siblings both looked up to him as he looked up to his eldest sister. He was always very oriented on family but he was always just that much closer with his older sister, Rina (Piper).

Around the age of ten, Briar was in a serious accident while riding his bike home from school. He was riding through the crosswalk at a stop sign when a car hit him, putting him in the hospital for a month. Another six weeks on bed rest at home has given him a supreme hatred of being inside for more than a few hours a day, and to this day he refuses to sleep in a bed. As a result of the accident, Briar has a had a hip replacement that occassionally still gives him problems. The scar from that surgery is actually almost unnoticable. Despite such serious injuries as he had sustained as a child, Briar was back playing his favorite sports two years later.

When he was fifteen, Briar had a bit of a rebellious streak and became uncontrollable for a while. He often felt that the only person who understood him at that time was Rina even though she often begged him to calm down his antics and get back on track. Though, he listened somewhat, Briar still ended up spending a few nights in the local county jail for going with a few friends to smash in some car windows. Though he knew that his parents would have bailed him out, it was Rina who told their parents that he wouldn't learn anything if he had been allowed to just continue on the road he was headed. Ultimately she had conviced both parents that Briar deserved a few nights in Jail if he was to learn his lesson, and so he did. After those few nights in the cold cell, Briar began to straighten up.

Briar's ability first manifested at eighteen, during a ski trip in the winter of 2007. Briar was never one for winter sports and so had opted to stay neer the lodge while everyone else made the trip up the slopes for some skiing fun. He had felt strange all day almost itchy with out being able to identify the itch. He eventually ended up in the frozen garden wishing that there was some color to look at. He told Rina later when he revealed his own powers to her, that he had been just thinking about what flowers might be under the snow when felt little surges from WHERE those flowers were. One had even decided to make itself known above the snow showing a bright purple against the stark white. Briar was sure, after experimenting with his abilities, that he had been the cause of that flower making such a sudden appearance. After study, he had come to know that it had been a Winter Rose, rare to the area they had been.

For two years he had managed to keep his abilities hidden from the rest of his family and even Rina. Though that task had been difficult. When Briar had finally revealed his abilities to his sister, he was advanced enough that he was able to even change his own shape. It was then that he came to learn that his sister too had a gift. It was after he had heard her story of how her own abilities had manifested that he became extremely protective of his older sister.

After their mutual revelations they met up with Building 26 agents that didn't seem to have been very sypathetic of their stories. Though they managed to escape they were always looking over their shoulders, and afraid that they would lose control over their powers. It was shortly after that incedent that Briar found out about Phoenix Alliance and their emphasis on traing those with abilities. After a few years working with their abilities, both brother and sister were already excelent control over their abilities. It remains to be seen what Briar is truly capable of and just how far he is willing to go to save the world.

Ability: Agrokinesis and Plant Physiology

Briar is able to manipulate and generate plants and trees.

As far as manipulation is concerned, Briar had been able to speed up the growth of many known plants but only so long as there is sunlight or, in some cases, moonlight. He can make plants and trees grow to enormous sizes though he does this more with fruits and vegetables than anything. He can also manipulate the roots, vines and thorns of plants offensively, though generally he generates these from his own body.

Generation has been a recent manifestation of Briar's abilities so he basically just uses this aspect for offensive purposes. But in order to generate anything Briar must have absorbed and stored massive amounts of sunlight. To do this he spends hours a day just being outside in the sun. As he is able to take on a plant-like form, it means he is able to photosynthesize sunlight, though, he does not use it for nourishment. Briar generally generates dangerously sharp thorns, thick club-like roots to bludgeon with or to trip people up with, and whippy vines that he uses to entanle.

When in his plant form Briar has green skin with a woody texture and thorns protruding from his joints and fingers. While in this form he is also able to release small amounts of neurotoxins and pheromones. Also in this form and even when not in this form, Briar is succeptible to high heat temps and low cold temps as both can effect plants in adverse ways. While in plant form Briar is esentially a plant.

Miscellaneous Info (Anything else we need to know): Briar has a nervous habit of flicking his thumbnail against his teeth. He admits it helps him to think.

Ok that was longer than planned but you said to be detailed. Hope this works, haven't done this in a while.

Dangit, haha, alrighty, I kinda got the inspiration from Isaac Mendez and his drug abuse, but kinda wanted too twist it a bit, however I shall make the appropriate changes. Thankyou for the approval! smile.gif

Barnaby
This looks like it'll be fun! ^^

Name: Virgil Barnaby (prefares to be called by his last name, Barnaby)

Gender: Male

Ethnicity: Caucasian, British.

Age: 19

Height: 5'6

Weight: 140 pounds.

Hair: Brushed back, brown.

Eyes: Grey-blue

Personality: Normally rather stoic, he has a habit of being cruelly sarcastic when he does speak so as to keep people at a distance. He is cynical, always doubting the intentions of others, but usually keeps these thoughts to himself. Dispite this, he still has a strong desire to help people in danger, which fueled his guerrilla warfare styled attacks against the agents of Building 26 (see history below). He has a strict ethical code that he will not break no matter what the situation. He is also rather cunning, able to adapt to his surroundings and situations quickly and think on his feet.

Hometown: Hull, England.

Faction: Undaunted.

Worldview: Heroic

Personal History: Virgil Barnaby was born in Hull, England into a family with a long military background. His childhood was spent with his happy family, who encouraged him to take up some child martial arts classes and taught him how to look after himself. He grew good at it, and by the age of sixteen, he was more than capable of dealing with anything life could throw at him. Joining the British Army at the age of seventeen, he went on a tour of duty in Iraq as his first real military tour. It would also unfortuantly be his last.

During a sweep, Barnaby's squad was ambushed. During the firefight, his ability manifested, and suddenly he found that he was able to get out of the way of the bullets. Due to the heavy fire however, he was still hit while covering for his friends, and his team was forced to pull back. His squadmates had seen what he had done, impossibly dodging through the hail of fire, but when they got back to their posts they spoke nothing of it, remaining tight-lipped about the whole incident so as not to put Barnaby in harms way.

After he had been patched up and finished his tour of duty, he left the Army, causing some shock to his family and friends. He had saved up a tidy some of money, so he moved to America, giving no reason. When he arrived there, he began training himself, pushing himself to see how far his new-found ability could go, but he always remembered to train his body, so that he would not rely too much on his power. Eventually, somehow, someone found him. They came for him while he was sleeping, with tasers and shackles. Barnaby fought them off in a tired fury, accidently killing one of them in the process.

Ever since then he has been on the run, trying to stay one step ahead of his unknown assilants. For a while, he considered everyone a potential enemy, and became quite paranoid, spending most of his time alone and hidden in whatever cover he could find. They kept coming for him though, and there were more every time. He knew that he could not keep running and hiding forever, and that sooner or later, he would have to strike back.

When they next came for him, he let them capture him so that he could find out more about what their objectives were. He found a device getting strapped to his chest and a tube shoved up his nostril. He was pushed into a van for several hours, his mind very fuzzy. When they finally came to a stop, he was hustled out of the van and led to the direction of a large building. Deciding that he had seen enough, he broke free of his guard, striking out with his head and legs (which the agents had foolishly not shackled). Finding a safe place to remove his restraints, he escaped his pursuers by putting on a burst of speed. Now that he knew where they were, Barnaby planned on taking more direct action against them by shadowing and then assaulting their agents whenever they were sent out on a mission.

Ability: Enhanced Agility.

Barnaby's ability allows him to perform feats of acrobatics that are impossible to others. It also makes him handy in a fight, as he is capable of evading strikes and counter-attack at high speeds with a precision that make him almost impossible to hit and defend against. He is even able to dodge bullets from several guns at once (like the Agents from The Matrix). He is capable of running at high speeds as a by-product of his ability (although he is not as fast in a straight out race as someone with Super Speed). His reflexes are also improved, allowing him to react to things at greater speeds than others.

Miscellaneous Info: Barnaby knows how to drive and, as indicated above, is proficient in fighting in general. He wears a black coat and cap as a way of hiding his identity and discouraging others from engaging in conversation with him.

If there are any problems with this, please let me know. ^^

Character Sheet

Name: Lilly Forrest (VetLilly)
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: White
Age: 24
Height: 5’3”
Weight: 120
Hair: Dark brown, long
Eyes: Hazel
Personality: Altruistic
Hometown: Boston, MA
Faction: Phoenix Alliance
Worldview: Heroic

Personal History: Lilly is an only child. Born to a Biologist and a Geologist, she was a bright child who had a natural affinity for science. He researcher parents worked odd hours, however, and Lilly was often lonely. Luckily, she was allowed to have many pets, and they became her closest friends. Even as a young teen, she found she would rather spend time with animals than with people--they were just easier to understand.

She began volunteering at the Franklin Park Zoo when she was in High School, and by her junior year at Boston University (Biochemistry major!) she was working as a Veterinarian Assistant. And this is where her power first manifested.

One night she was cleaning up the medical lab late in the evening because there had been a emergency with one of the Ocelots (small, tiger-like wild cat). It had badly torn and broken a leg. Despite a strong sedative, the animal was in so much pain it was hard to control. Lilly finally held and soothed the animal while the vets set its bone and stitched up the wounds, and all the while she whispered to it about how well it would run, how fast and how far, if only it would let them heal it. Somehow, she felt as if she knew what she was talking about--as if she could feel the strength and speed and freedom the cat felt when it ran.

Once things had calmed down and the lab was back in order, Lilly headed home. The streets were dark and nearly deserted, and she was alone at the T station. Then a man in a hooded sweatshirt joined her, and something about him made her nervous. He came right up behind her, and when she stepped away from him he reached out and grabbed her arm. Panicking, she yanked free and began to run...and thoughts of the Ocelot filled her mind, and she wished she could run as fast...and suddenly, she could, because she was one.

Lilly didn’t remember much of the rest of that evening, and truthfully she didn’t want too. Except, sometimes in the days that followed, the heady rush of freedom and speed would come to her and she would have to force herself to concentrate. She stayed away from the wounded Ocelot, but at times found its stare following her around the cages.

Lilly graduated soon thereafter and headed for U Penn where she would get her
Veterinarian Degree. Unfortunately, she never made it. Agents from Building 26 captured her before she even reached campus, and what followed was a drug-hazed nightmare. It was also a revelation to her--there were other people with abilities! She escaped with a group of them and although they all quickly went into hiding, she knew things would never be the same. As a scientist, she knew evolution was a natural process to ensure the survival of a species, and she wanted to prove it by using her abilities to help mankind.

Now Lilly has returned to Franklin Park Zoo, telling her coworkers that she’d run out of money and had to drop out of the Vet program. They needed her help enough that they didn’t ask questions, but just welcomed her back. At first she keep a very low profile, but recently she has reached out to a group she heard about that offered to help her learn to use/control her power, as well as find ways to make a difference.

Ability: Shape Changing (Animals) and some undeveloped Animal Empathy. She can alter her physical form to mimic any living animal she has touched, and has some unconscious level of communication with animals in general.

Miscellaneous Info (Anything else we need to know): Lilly is just learning the extent of her powers. She has skills and knowledge in Genetics, Chemistry, Biology, and First Aid. She lives with a roommate, a newspaper reported who found out about Lilly's power and is helping her hide it.

Fine, I'll edit it. GOSH. And the personality is because I accidentally click the wrong choice cuz my laptop lags and by the time it recovers my mouse drifts. sad.gif And past bites him? Friends fake his death? You give me too much to think about, Req. But I'll edit it. smile.gif

EDIT: He's NEUTRAL. Hence the faction. To me Neutral (from experience in video games) is like keeping a balance. Not too much good and too much evil. Just equally. And with the past thing...NOBODY KNOWS. Nobody like witnessed it or anything. I'll explain that more in his bio then...god. *huffs*

When it comes to the personality, I'm not worried if it's perfectly right. If a character is meant to be aggressive, but at the moment his personality is reading as Altruistic, then I would just put aggressive anyways. It's your character, put what you know is true about him, not what the HSG tells you.

Also, I don't really feel I'm giving you too much to think about. Your character is a murderer, as his history states, and the first rule of having a murderer is that there needs to be a motive for any killings he has done or will do. You need to really explain why he killed them rather than saying, "he killed them because he wanted to." That's just downright evil if that's why he actually killed them (meaning, there's nothing neutral about killing just to kill).

And even if no one witnessed the murders, it's not like his family would really think he was an "angel" and just let him kill them all. If someone is supposed to be dead, but they're still walking around, they're more than likely not dead... And I still come back to my other point, the world still has a way of coming full circle and totally messing up Liam's life for murdering his family. Even if there were no witnesses, there still had to be an investigation into his family's deaths. The cops would have had to find some clue that led them to Liam.

I'm not meaning to make you angry or anything, but I am trying to get you explain your character more. You're telling us stuff about Liam, yet not explaining it. That's all i really have a problem with.

How big is your IQ, Req? Cuz right now, you're making me seem...stupid.
Requiem191
My IQ isn't big at all. In fact, I don't even know what it is. This isn't my brain talking though, this is experience. Role-Playing experience. I've been playing online RPGs like this one for a little under 3 years now. After a few months of it, you'll be seeing things the way I am. What I'm pointing out is fairly obvious, at least in my mind.

If and when you've played games like these as long as I have, you'll see what I'm pointing out for yourself easily enough.

EDIT: also, this is in no way me trying to make you seem stupid. I've been where you are. I made characters with even less detail than you have (what you have isn't bad, it's just not enough, that's all). I've had some pretty horrible characters that can't even touch what you've done. That just goes to show you how much time changes things and how having experience helps a LOT.

Uh...thanks? I think...But for some reason I can't think of good character bios so I might think of a bio and for over 3 days till I get it perfect. Shows you how much writer's block I get. And Req, an intelligence quotient, or IQ, is a score derived from one of several different standardized tests designed to assess intelligence. Just so ya know. smile.gif
