When I think of all our shattered lives,
the fragments crashing together,
it becomes so clear to me...
Nothing will ever be the same.

Welcome one and all to the first Factions RPG here on 9thwonders.com! It's been mentioned around the site for awhile, but I finally forced myself to buck up and just do it! So, without further ado, let's just get on with it.
Shattered Fragments is, as I said, a Factions RPG. For anyone unfamiliar with the Heroes: Survival game, individual players (that's you and me and everyone else!) have been given the opportunity to create a number of their own original characters, each affected in some way by the recent activity of Building 26 during Volume Four: Fugitives of our show. Recently, we've also been given the opportunity to join groups of other players dubbed "Factions." Within these groups, players unite together for a common cause (whatever it may be). Together, they try face the hardships of their new life, just trying to be what they want. For the most part, we all just want to be normal. On the other hand, some people want more and they plan to get it.
Shattered Fragments is set after the factions have all gained a bit of a foothold in the world, after stabilizing themselves and getting everything figured out. Now it's time to take their ideals and goals with them as they make their way through new lives.
Onto the technical bits of the game. If you've been reading up on the Poll I placed in the Factions forum, you'll see a bit more information on the game. Basically, we'll be playing the game on an episodic basis, week to week. I will be GMing the game and "leading"* you throughout as you complete various missions that were created for the game. You'll be attempting to win the mission for your faction. As this is an attempt at realism and taking things a step further, we obviously can't have everything come out well for all of the Factions. Someone's gonna win and someone's gonna lose. Plain and simple.
You will be playing as only ONE of your Faction characters. Yes, I said ONE (1) character. While I know this won't be much of a problem for a few people, some people have many characters, upwards of 10 etc, and obviously we can't let one player have that much power. The one character rule has worked for many games I've played, I don't see why it can't work here as well.
BUT, on the other hand, you may have multiple characters in this game, but you may only use one of them at a time and can not switch between characters in the middle of a mission/week.
If you do make a new character, put their character sheet in the post in which your original character's sheet is in and then link me to it. The same rules apply to this character as your original one. They must be in a Faction and have a detailed history (etc).
Next, the RULES. Everyone loves rules and everyone
1. First off, no God-Modding, power gaming or metagaming. If you do not know what these words mean, let me define: No using your powers to extremes. No god-powers! You can't have a Hiro, Sylar, Ted, etc, type of character. No knowing stuff your character wouldn't know. No playing other people's characters. No killing someone else's characters without permission. If you do something I haven't listed here and try to be clever, it is unwritten but still a rule.
2. Spell correctly, use a decent amount of proper grammar and punctuation. Spell Check is your friend and as such, you should speak to him OFTEN.
3. You can't be a canon HEROES character or related to any canon characters. Only OC (Original Characters) are allowed.
4. This is an attempt at a bit of realism. Live your character's life like an actual life, like it really matters. Interact with other players how you'd interact in real life, and remember that every decision has consequences.
5. No rip offs. That means Ziro Takamura and Gylar are not allowed. Come up with your own ideas people! You can be evil or good, normal or special, but the one thing you can't be is uncreative!
6. Make decent posts, interact, don't have two line posts, and most definitely leave posts open. Remember that you are playing with other people and you WILL be included in the game as long as you include others.
7. No flaking or abandoning. If you want to leave, tell me by PM or IM. My IM name for AIM is SgtHappySlap (Laugh it up, you know you want to).
8. Keep it PG13 by following the fan fic guidelines that also apply to RP and follow the board rules.
9. Remember the Disconnect. The Player is not The Character. I for one am a guy, and my characters are evenly split gender wise. I have never shape-shifted, nor killed anyone, nor done drugs. I take this very far, and very to heart. If something happens to your character, you need to not take it personally.
10. Work things out (continuity errors, questions etc.) in the OOC/Out-Of-Character thread (this thread), please. If you have a problem with another player then PM that person and try to solve the situation in a civil manner. If I feel that the problem is affecting the game, I WILL get involved. If you want to chat, please use this thread for that as well. Leave the story posts where they belong and keep everything that is OOC here.
11. GM (Me, Requiem191) has final say in any and all issues.
12. Rules can be changed at any moment should someone try something funny.
13. There is a small chance that your character may die in this game. Just like in real life, if you get into a life-threatening situation and don't handle it properly, things can go bad. Remember though, you'll be working as a team for the most part with your other Faction members. Plus, if you're smart, you should be able to get out of most situations easily enough. If a character dies, it was either because the player wanted that character gone or because of something else probably involving me, yours truly. (Don't worry, I don't kill other people's characters... too often.)
14. We are going to use the TAG System for this game. Anyone who's played EotW or FoM will know how to use this system. At the beginning of each post, you will place any pertinent information that needs to be known (I.E. Location and Time and your character's name). At the end of each post, you will TAG the Player that you want to respond to your post. Here's an example post:
New York - Pinehearst Laboratory
Week 7
IC: Peter Petrelli
"I thought we killed you!" Peter yelled out as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man charged towards the Heroes.
TAG: Requiem191
And that's the TAG System. It's easy to use, so no worries.
15. Have fun!

Now that you've read the Rules (you did read them right? Alright then, I believe you, but don't think I won't keep an eye on you!), we need to go over one of the most important aspects of the game and, more importantly, your character.
What I'm about to show you is the Character Sheet for Shattered Fragments. A Character Sheet displays all pertinent information for your character leading up to the very beginning of this game. That means I want to see everything, absolutely every important detail, of your character's life. If your character has a giant scar on his left leg, I want to know why. Was it because he fell off his bike and down a hill at a young age or because he was trapped in a fire fighting off Building 26 Agents? These things are important because they give life to your character! Let us know everything you think is important. Don't hold back! Just copy the sheet from this post and paste it into a reply to this topic and fill it out! Now, here's the Character Sheet:

Currently, the game will be about the Pinehearst Files that have crept their little heads back into the light. You (and hopefully your other factions members) will first be attempting to gain access to them. As we know, only one group can win! Who will that be? How will we figure it out? Well, at first I thought I'd just go ahead and be the one to judge on who did the best throughout the missions/weeks, but I can see a flaw in that plan. My members will, hopefully, be playing this game. If they are, I'd be inclined to see them win. Personally, I wouldn't admit this, but I know that someone might point out my being unfair. To counter this, I've come up with a different solution.
As a whole, we will all vote on who we feel did the best each week. Obviously, this means you will all have to be mature about this and be fair to everyone else. From what I know of 9thwonders and its members, this won't be a problem. I have faith that all of you will be fair to everyone else and not vote for yourself constantly.
So, with that said, I'm not sure what else to do! I think I'll leave this to you and let you post your thoughts and feelings on the game. I'm always ready to hear whatever anyone has to say, and now is no different!
