Mission 1

"Coordinates confirmed, latitude and longitude check. It's there sir, we found it, just like you said." They were in a dark lit room, their cast up the wall by the faint light of the dozen or so computers spread throughout.

"Good, upload them to Tracker and send him out. I want visual confirmation on this place as soon as possible." He stood in the center of the room, elevated above the other only slightly by a small platform they had put on the ground. It was easier for him to see what they were doing and easier for them to spot him in the usually large crowd.

For now, the room was practically deserted, just a handful of people here and there working their computers.

"If it hadn't been for that failed mission a few weeks back, we'd still have Porter."

"Yeah, well we don't girly, so hush up and let the men do da talking." One of the other techs had piped up, once again belittling the "girly" as he called her.

"Taylor, what have we talked about?" The man on the center platform had addressed him directly, a strange sense of malice in his voice.

"I dunno..." Taylor said nonchalantly, cleaning his ears out as though he didn't rightly care what was happening.

At that moment, the man lifted into the air, almost impossibly, and was pressed against the ceiling.

"I've told you before Taylor, everyone here is an equal member of the team. If I have to beat it into your head once again, I'll at least make sure you've learned your lesson!"

"No, I'm sorry, please! I'm sorry Rose, I'm sorry!" He called out to the woman, Rose, standing up near her computer. Despite Taylor's obvious tactlessness and beliefs, he didn't deserve to be hurt for what he did.

"Sir, please! Leave him alone!"

"No Rose, he deserves to feel a little pain for his actions. It's the only way he'll learn. It's the only way anyone will learn what they need to know!"

Taylor fell bodily to the ground, his head colliding painfully with the ground. It hadn't been a steep drop, but it was a drop nonetheless, one that happened to be all too excruciating to Taylor for he passed out seconds later.

"You've knocked him out!"

"Yes."

"Was that entirely necessary!? Honestly, you can't just go beating people up to get them to be who you think they ought to be!" Rose rushed to Taylor's side and picked him up off the ground. His front was considerably oozing with blood, his blue shirt now a stark and vivid, bloody brown.

"That's what happens to those who break the rules here Rose. Those who belittle others, make them feel less than they are... they are the ones who will be crushed by us. No matter how special they may be, the strong will not care. We don't care."

"The strong aren't here to hurt anyone! Especially their own!"

"If it is needed, they will. I didn't see you complaining when I saved you from those muggers in New York."

"That was different Sir. I was about to robbed of more than my money, but Taylor!? He may be a horrible human being, but he wasn't attacking me!"

"If you're going to be so flustered over this, I think you should leave Rose, for the time being. Take Taylor to the medical ward and rest. You're relieved of your duties for the day."

"But--!"

"No. Leave Rose. Now."

There was never any arguing with him, Rose knew that. Hell, everyone knew that. Still, he was out of line, he almost always was. He was charismatic, sure, and he indeed had strength, but there was something brutal about him... something far too ruthless.

His word was law. Rose didn't always follow it. He indeed saved her life, though how long would she be in his debt? How long could she survive under his watch.

Sometimes, she never knew...

He had been checking over the past few days for any signs or whispers of agents. For now, they seemed pretty quiet. He couldn't help but shake the feeling that something was wrong though, that something wasn't right. Sure, the agents' disappearance was a good thing, but it was all too convenient. It might've been a trap, or... maybe it was just a coincidence. Maybe they really were gone.

Their efforts had surely tripled in the past few weeks alone. Resistance was down around the globe; kidnappings among the "special" population of the world were coming to a halt. He couldn't shake that feeling though, that terrible, horrible, bad feeling of extreme unease. Maybe he felt this way because he had been "underground" for so long. Hiding never felt right to him. He wanted to be out in the field working with everyone else.

"Incoming message..." A faint metallic voice spoke out into his room. He hadn't intercepted any other messages for the past few days and was happy to finally have something to do. Assuming that it involved agents, Micah felt a little guilty for the sense of fulfillment that he had upon finding the message, though he knew it couldn't be helped.

Opening the intercepted file, his brows furrowed themselves deep down. What were these? Coordinates, yeah, but for what? Where did they lead?

It didn't take long for him to figure it all out though. He put the coordinates into his system and a few satellite images later revealed what he did not know.

It was a Pinehearst facility, hidden in Kansas. Strange, but not unexpected. He knew there had to be a few of these somewhere, just waiting to be found.

He didn't know what the lab had in store for whoever went there, but he wasn't waiting to find out. He sent a message out to everyone he knew would be interested in the facility and went to work on its interior systems. For the most part, he knew they would all be able to handle it, but he wanted to make sure that it wasn't a complete trap they were walking into...

TAG: ALL PLAYERS!

Okay guys, now we've set up the game and are preparing to find out what this new facility has in store for us. But who are these people that are already making their way towards the lab? Are they another Faction? What exactly are their plans?

Who knows? You'll just have to post and find out!

Casey was walking around the street, trying to avoid any and all suspicions. The weeks before still fresh on his mind, the pain, horror, and humiliation... but life goes on, no matter who it is. He continued walking keeping an eye out for anyone, special or not, when he received a text message. The message was plain, just some coordinates and a small message, but the message itself was a priority. It came from the one person he could rely on, Rebel.

If Rebel was asking him to check something out, then there was definitely something worth finding that would help in the long run. He turned the corner into an alley way and used his newly acquired teleportation ability to go to his new hideout, an area he set up for situations like these, especially when suggested by a friend.

He gathered his things and put the back back over his shoulder and thought of the possibility it represented itself. An opportunity to find his missing friend, Peter.

"All in good time, for now, first things first." he said as he teleported away.

Ring-ring-ring.

T6T, or Adam, blinked as he looked around the room, eying the others around. No one else' phone had received any message, save for his - something he thought strange. He was with quite a few other members of his faction, and generally, the only messages they received were those sent to everyone at once - an urgent meeting, someone needing help, some additional information, something of interest to everyone.

This time, however, only he out of the 12 people in the room received a message.

Shrugging, Adam reached into his pocket and clipped his thumb and index onto the sides of his phone, pulling it out of it's holder, bringing it up in front of his face. He had bought the phone - an iPhone just recently. How he had gotten the money, he wasn't sure - but 15 days ago, when he had woken up, he had woken up with a briefcase, inside containing files on him, a fake I.D., and, surprisingly, a hundred thousand dollars. And just like that, he had a bunch of money to spend.

Back to the message, he noted that it was from REBEL, a well known evolved human who generally sent random messages to people concerning any and everything that has to do with them and their powers. The message told of a certain Pinehearst facility being found in Kansas, and it asked for his presence.

Probably alongside every other interested member of every other faction, he thought. After all, the amount of people who was interested in Pinehearst is a lot. He himself was definitely interested - it was speculated that who could really very well have been experimented upon by Pinehearst, and investigations by his faction had been done to find more about him - though to no avail.

Perhaps... this time it would be different?

Whatever the case, he needed to hurry.

~~~
"CALLIE!" Adam called, running along the corridors of the Underground. "Where are ya? I need you!"
A girl, always a girl it seems - teleporters are, appeared out of no where, and attempted to punch Adam in the shoulders. Instant reflex took over and Adam's body distorted, sending him fluidly to the floor, whilst Callie's punch completely missed.
"Greetings, Callie." Adam said as he watched Callie steady herself. She failed, and decided to instead teleport two meters aside, standing straight this time.
"Not fair!" She called, but Adam simply shrugged. It happened sometimes, a sudden reflex by his body, something that he normally couldn't do - like the evasion, for example. It was as if it was programmed into his body, called upon when most needed - as with everything else of his, it would seem.
From his ability to his memories to his communication skills, it was written down in his files as being 'programmed' into him.
Adam simply gave a shrug, and then he became serious. "Listen, I need to get to Kansas, Re-"
"-Bel said that they found a Pinehearst there. I know, Belief told me." Callie said, and then responded to Adam's raising his eyebrow. "She's busy though... you're on your own this time. I'll teleport you there, but that's it, sorry."
Adam nodded, understanding that this was more for himself than The Group, definitely. They had more concerns than visiting old Pinehearst labs at the moment. Callie nodded in agreement, and then proceeded to place her hand on his shoulder. A light surrounded them, and when it disappeared, they were already in a dark, dark alley, no doubt in Kansas.
"Be safe. You have our emergency numbers. Call if you're in trouble." Callie warned, and Adam thanked her. Immediately, she disappeared, no doubt to teleport someone else around.
Sighing, he took a look around him, taking in the surroundings, making sure he was relatively 'safe' first. When he was sure of so, he proceeded to take his phone out again, and began messaging to Rebel.
The message read:
To REBEL,
I'm Adam from THE GROUP, here in KANSAS as per your message. However, I am by myself as the rest of my faction is currently... busy. Do you mind hooking me with people from some other faction? Thanks.
Sending the message, Adam sighed and waited in the dark, dark alley.
Jacko lifted his leaden head from his sleeping bag, casually strewn in one corner of the gigantic warehouse, a place his faction now called "home", and had christened with a spankin' party the night before.
"My faction...", he muttered to himself. His voice sounded like grating metal in his head, and he winced. He still had trouble getting used to being a part of a group, after so many years of fending for himself. That, and a healthy dose of resistance to authority of every kind, didn't sit well with him - but if anything, he knew that this particular faction believed first and foremost in the un-hindered survival of its members - and for that - for the strength in numbers, not to mention what seemed to be substantial material bonuses - he was willing to give it a shot.
His mobile phone blipped, and he sat up - or rather tried to sit up - but his peripheral vision exploded into a myriad of colours, as a heavy metal band started playing "spank the monkey" inside his head, with quite a few extra drums thrown in for good measure. He groaned, lay back on his side, and stretched as far as he could, snagging his backpack with his foot and extracting his mobile phone - an old, analog, untraceable model.
He whistled softly as he saw the name on the message. "Rebel - wow. There's someone I thought I wouldn't hear from again, unless the sky came crashing down. I wonder if that means good or bad news?"
In any case, he wasn't planning to return to Australia after only two days in the states - and he certainly could afford the extra stay now, that he's joined the apparantly well-off street life faction. So why not Kansas?
"You know why not," a little voice spoke up in his head. "Because Pinehearst spells trouble."
Yes, it did. But it also spelled intrigue, possibly some fun and games, and best of all - an opportunity for knowledge. And knowledge, Jacko knew well, meant increased survival rates out on the streets. Hell, if Rebel himself thought this was important enough to blab about, it was certainly worth a look-into.
But first thing's first - he tried sitting up again, much slower this time, and then, slowly, painfully, got to his feet. So far so good. Now, if he could just find himself a cup of coffee...
Volts
Location: Jacksonville, Florida, a shipyard warehouse that serves as StreetLife's headquarters
Time: 5AM ET
Meng woke up a bit hung over, having dozed off in a chair after a long night of partying with the faction's members. Seeing security guards standing watch by the door, she felt a bit relieved, but the sight of many of her fellow members sprawled out on the floor was a bit disconcerting. Her plan to get to know them better had worked wonders--maybe a little too well. Meng picked her head up off the table it was laying on, and let out a soft sigh as she brushed her hair out of her face with one hand.
Her lieutenant, Pan, then brought Meng some hot tea and breakfast--traditional congee with fried noodles. The congee was made with egg and salted pork meat, the way she was used to eating it at home in Hong Kong. Meng nodded her head in acceptance and smiled. "You warm my heart, Pan", she teased. "But please help out our members, and have our men begin cleaning up this place. It looks a mess."
While Pan complied and helped faction members out to their cars or get taxis back to their hotels, Meng began eating her breakfast. Halfway through, her sat. phone received a message, along with many of the cell phones of the members leaving. It was from Rebel. He had obtained coordinates to a Pinehearst lab, and it appeared to Meng that he was broadcasting an all-points bulletin message with them. Meng double-checked the coordinates and shook her head--it had to be the same lab one of her members had informed her about, and the same lab she had already instructed for her members to begin reconnaisance on today. She had heard of this "Rebel", but never had he made contact with her before.
Immediately, Meng typed out her own APB to her members via text: "Be advised, Rebel has sent general APB with coordinates to the lab we plan to visit to multiple parties. Other factions are likely en route. Please report if contact made." She then hit send, and her phone program encrypted the message for her and broadcast it to the StreetLife members. The members' cell phones then buzzed again--this time from Meng's message.
Meng then replied to Rebel using an unencrypted message on her phone, "Be advised: one of my StreetLife members advised of lab's location prior to your APB. We were not the first faction to learn of it, but StreetLife members are already on the way."
Standing up, Meng asked, "Pan, is everything ready for today?" Pan replied, "Yes, mam." Meng then looked down at herself. She was still wearing the same sleeveless black blouse and short black bubble skirt she wore the night before, but now she reeked of spilled booze. So Meng took the lift up to her dressing room on the roof, took a refreshing shower, changed her clothes, and applied her makeup.
She came back down the lift wearing a white long sleeve blouse, tight fitting gray skirt, and black heels, and carrying her purse by a strap over her shoulder. Pan smiled at Meng while she came down the lift. Pan was smiling a bit too much, she thought. "Pan, please begin the planned modifications to H.Q. for training," Meng said. Pan nodded, and helped Meng into the backseat of a rental car. One of Meng's men then drove her to the airport, after which she proceeded alone. She showed the authorities press credentials she had obtained in China along with her passport, and took a pre-booked flight to Wichita, Kansas, after securing a suitcase full of her clothes and personal belongings as luggage.
On arriving at about noon, Meng collected her luggage, rented a car, a white Nissan Cube, and traveled to a shipping store that was holding a delivery for her. She put the package, a large brown box, in the trunk and checked herself into the nearest motel. After bringing the package inside her motel room, she opened it and changed clothes once again. Now, she wore a bulletproof vest between her bra and black tank top, and also gray sweat pants, and white socks and sneakers. The vest was in the box, along with a sniper rifle and ammunition, separated in pieces. She grabbed the scope for the gun, and stuck it in her bra. Meng then left the rest of the separated gun in the box, sealed it back up, and got back on the road with it again in her trunk.
By about 2PM Central time, Meng had almost reached the coordinates where the lab was supposed to be. There appeared to be nothing but vast countryside around. Then, she entered a small town she guessed was in the middle of nowhere. No one was on the streets, the place seemed deserted--like a ghost town. Finally, she reached the entrance to a covered alleyway, when about 200 feet away from the coordinates. So Meng parked her car in the parking lot of an abandoned store on the side of the road. With the car turned off to save fuel, she pulled the scope out of her bra. Looking through the scope, she could only see a man standing in the dark alley. While hiding the best she could under the dashboard, so the man wouldn't spot her, Meng quickly grabbed her sat. phone out of her purse, which had a night vision cam mode. Meng then raised the phone over the car dashboard and snapped a picture of the man with it, and sent it to Rebel and her faction members with the unencrypted text message, "I've reached just outside the coordinates. Possible encounter. Any of you know this man?".
Drew sat under tree in a all to familiar park watching a group of children and their father playing fetch with there new puppy. He smiled as the memories of his child hood flashed through his head, when his thoughts were interrupted by a misfired Frisbee, "Hey buddy what do you say?" the father yelled gesturing to the Frisbee that had landed a few inches from Drew's feet.
Drew looked at the man for a second still trying to collect himself "Oh, the Frisbee sure thing." he said, Drew stood up and grabbed the Frisbee and smiled, "Hey kid go long!" Drew said launching the Frisbee back out in the direction of the family, but as soon as the Frisbee left his hand so did Drew's smile as his leg was greeted by the light vibration from his phone in his right pocket.
"Thank ya mister!" the boy hollered back, Drew waved then pulled the phone from his pocket 1 New Message bounced around the screen. Drew hesitated reading it since he hadn't given anyone this number other then the members in his faction.
Drew pushed the screen and as he did the little envelope image opened it's self. It was from Rebel a big player that Drew had only heard about through other faction members, but had never had the pleasure of meeting, but knew anything from him must be important as he opened it his eyes widened "A hidden Pinehearst facility... in Kansas?". Attached to the message were the coordinates Drew closed his phone and looked down at his watch it was 1:35PM.
Drew couldn't help but think that this was to good to be true, but also to good to pass up. Drew flipped his phone back hit [1] then pressed send. [Undaunted] flashed across the screen then the other line answered "Drew, is everything OK?" There was a few seconds of silence then Drew responded.
"Everything thing is fine just need you to pull up the files on my phone labeled (Coordinates). I think Rebel may have stumbled onto something, but I'm not quiet sure what yet... how soon do you think we can have a jet fueled and ready to go? It looks like we maybe paying Dorothy and Toto a friendly visit. How's the weather look like in Kansas?"
With that Drew gets into his car and drives off.
Barnaby was sat in an ally when he heard his phone go off. That alone drew his suspicions. His phone was used for emergencies only, so whatever the message was it would have to be important. Pulling it out of his poket, he checked his Inbox. He frowned. Who on earth was Rebel?
After a moment or two, information started leaking back into his brain. Rebel... he was an evolved human too, or at least that is what he heard. He had set up this big movement or something, fighting back against those who attacked people like him. Reading the text, his frown deepened. Pinehearst... yes, he recalled them too. Another group of some variety. They were destroyed recently, or so the rumours went. Barnaby did not have much contact with anyone, so any information he had was from rumour and hearsay. The message said that they had a facility in Kansas. The co-ordinates were not too far from his current position. If this Rebel fellow was as big as he was supposed to be, then Barnaby guessed that he was not the only one informed of this. He would have to keep an eye out for others sent that way.
Shrugging, he rose to his feet, brushing his clothes down. "Kansas, huh?" he said to himself, his voice a whisper. Looking around, he set off in the direction the message had indicated. He had a bit of a walk ahead of him yet.
Kimani, the youngest of the Zoo’s lowland gorillas, blinks sleepily at Lilly and reaches out to grab at the red pen in her pocket. The drugs have made Kimani clumsy, though, and Lilly catches the gorilla’s hand so she doesn’t knock anything over. “Hush, now, Kimani, none of that. We’re almost done.” Lilly glances at her boss to confirm this just as he pulls of his gloves.
“Done. Lilly, keep an eye on her. She should be ready to go back to the exhibit in 30 minutes or so.” Chris gathers the samples and heads back to the main lab.
Alone with Kimani now, Lilly strokes the young gorilla’s fur. “So brave, what a brave girl.” The gorilla’s eyes are so big and dark, so human. She wants to go back to her mother. She wants to climb, to use the powerful muscles beneath her skin to go higher and higher in her favorite tree...
Lilly takes a deep breath and turns away from Kimani. I have got to stop letting that happen, she thinks. Focus…
Then all thoughts vanish from Lilly’s mind. The hand held data device beside her has a message blinking on its screen. It’s a medical tool--it can’t do that. “Whaa--” Then Lilly reads the message and blinks. She looks around, but there is no one to see. She reads the message again, notes down the flight number, and shuts off the device.
Kimani grunts at her, and Lilly turns back and smiles. “Wow, it’s really happening, Kimi,” she whispers. Her heart is beating very fast. She takes the gorilla’s hand again. “I’m going to help save the world!”
What the hell was I so excited about? Lilly wipes her sweating palms on her jeans for the fifteenth time. I am probably going to make a fool out of myself. The plane banks slightly and Lilly’s stomach rolls. As the pilot announces their descent into the Kansas airport, Lilly looks out the window and through the misty clouds. Pinehearst, an old Pinehearst facility… Of course, the building does not leap into sight just because she wants it to. What am I getting into?
Lilly doesn’t have much luggage, and once she deplanes she makes it to the rental car lot swiftly. She’d been told to look for other Phoenix Alliance members here--a dark haired man and a taller, light-haired man. Jason and Briar. I wonder what their abilities are? she thinks. Map reading, I hope. With nothing but those GPS coordinates, finding this place was going to be interesting.
Lilly tosses the keys in her hand nervously and looks around the lot.
IC: Derian
It was starting to become quite nauseating, this constant rush of adrenaline. Even as he sat cupping a mug of coffee in his hands, Derian could feel the hormone coursing through his veins. To him, everything was threatening and everybody was an enemy. A patron standing up too quickly across the café sent his heart racing. The concept of evolved humanity and a world of abilities was rather new to Derian, you see. His ability had manifested not too long ago, and the immediate chase from Building 26 agents left him no time to understand what was happening to him or to the world around him. He had found friends and allies since then, even joined a faction, but the overwhelming sensation of constant danger kept Derian on edge.
He looked down at his fake passport – something his new faction had provided him with – and groaned internally. Chase McGruff was the worst alias he’s ever heard of. He had a one-way ticket to Wichita, Kansas and a promise that a return flight would be sorted out when his mission was completed. Ha. Mission. He couldn’t believe that he was on a ‘mission’. It sounded so ridiculous. His faction was sent coordinates to some old Pinehearst facility in Kansas, recently found by their friend Rebel. When Derian had joined Unity, he had made it quite clear that he wasn’t a fighter. He didn’t have the skill or the instinct to rush into battle and spill blood. No, he was a behind-the-scenes kind of guy. An overseer, an organizer, a collector of information. So when this new information about the old Pinhearst facility arose, Derian was a natural choice to do a little reconnaissance. He was to check the place out, gather some information and leave. Were there agents there? How many? Or is it completely abandoned? Has it already been ransacked? Or are the labs ripe for the picking? Just a few questions he had been asked to find the answers to.
It seemed like a harmless enough mission, but Derian couldn’t help but be nervous. He looked up at the departure board and saw his flight being called to gate. He took a calming breath, stood, and made his way to his flight.
Jason gave a sigh of relief as the GreyHound bus finally came to a stop at the Southwest Airlines parking lot. He completely regretted asking for a bust ticket. He didn't know how serious this mission was and thought it would be better to lay low. No one checks buses. Jason looked out the window, trying to lookout for other members of his faction, he glanced down at his BlackBerry, looking at the message that was sent to him regarding this mission, he remembered the excitement in doing a mission outside of New York, he was getting a little tired of the same routine. He then pulled up some images of some of the PA members that have agreed to the mission. Jason only looked at it for a few seconds, he knew it wasn't very safe to have pictures of other people with abilities, and he planned on deleting them as the mission got going. However, at first glance he couldn't recognize anybody. He was told that some members might be here, and to keep an eye out for them. This was the first time he has ever interacted with other members of the faction, usually his mission's were solo ones.
As Jason was thinking the large woman sitting next to him got up and unknowingly sqquished him as she searched for her bag at the compartment above them. Jason only brought his backpack, it had a change of clothes, toiletries, along with a GPS and some other random stuff that he thought would be usefull on a trip. You never know on these missions what will come in handy. He made sure to try and keep things light, this wasn't a vacation, it was a mission.
Jason threw his backpack on and got out of the bus, aside from all of the surrounding old people he didn't see anyone yet. He then moved to the other side of the bus and noticed a young woman with dark brown hair looking just as lost as he was. He recognized her face from one of the pictures. He grinned at the thought of finally being on the road with someone close to his age, the smell of medicine and smoke was really starting to bug him. Jason casually began to walk over, however he soon realized that he had no idea what to say. Should I just ask if she is from PA? Do I just introduce myself? What she is just a random person who doesn't have a clue about what's goign on? Damn, this would be so much easier if I was a Telepath... Jason figured he would just role with it, and once he finally got to her moved his hand out toward her and smiled, "Hey, I'm Jason Canon, and I think we are working togeather."
A Greyhound bus pulled up at one end of the parking lot, and a bunch of rumpled looking elderly people began to climb out. None of them looked promising. Lilly rubbed her palms on her jeans again and took a deep breath. Over by the terminal, a crowd of college athletes spilled out onto the sidewalk, chattering loudly. Lilly looked them over as best she could, but they all looked the same.
This is impossible, I’ll be here all day, she thought. WHY didn’t I think to ask for pictures or something? Then out of the corner of her eye she noticed a lean young man getting off the bus. He had black, spiked hair, carried a backpack, and looked pretty tired. And there was something about him...Lilly couldn’t put her finger on it, but it wasn’t just that he was at least two decades younger than everyone else exiting the bus.
Lilly looked away and tried to act nonchalant, confident, and purposeful all at once. She probably failed miserably. What the hell do I say?
"Hey, I'm Jason Canon, and I think we are working together."
Lilly moved the car keys awkwardly to her other hand, then grasped Jason’s. “Hi...hello. Lilly Forrest. I guess we are.” Lilly smiled back at Jason and suddenly felt better. Yea, we are working together. I’m not alone in this. Not alone anymore. How weird is that? It felt good.
Lilly gestured towards the small blue Toyota nearby. “We have a car, and I think it is supposed to have one of those GPS things in it. I already put my bag in the trunk.” She popped open the trunk, revealing a well-worn leather duffle bag and a lot of empty space. “I’m not sure if we should wait...there was going to be three of us, I thought.” She pretended to shove her bag out of his way--totally unnecessary--just so she didn’t have to look at him when she said, “I’ve never, really, done any of this stuff before.”
Things were quiet between the two occupants of the silver car. The driver was a 30-year-old woman with dark brown hair. Her passenger was a 27-year-old male with shaggy blonde hair and blue eyes.
Holly kept her eyes on the road. She still wasn't used to the lack of federal agents looking to capture her.
"You're tense." Shawn, her half-brother, said.
Holly felt awful. She had told him that they were on their way to an audition for him in Branson. "Shawn, I lied to you about this."
Shawn didn't look surprised. "Well, guess I couldn't expect any less from someone from Washington."
Holly gave him a blazing look. "I was an aide. Nothing more, nothing less."
Shawn rolled his eyes. "Didn't Senator Franklin support that Petrelli guy's legislation?"
"I'm not Senator Franklin. She makes her own decisions. I just file papers and make phone calls. If you still think I could have stopped what happened to you in Building 26, you're wrong. Besides, I'm done with that city for a long time."
"So you quit?" Shawn asked.
Holly nodded. "I turned in my resignation a few days ago. This is more important."
"You were going to tell me what 'this' really is." Shawn reminded her.
She sighed. "Right. I received word from some of the other Undaunted members that they need us to help investigate a possible Pinehearst lab in Kansas."
"Why didn't you just tell me that?" Shawn asked.
Holly glanced over at him, then back at the road. She was silent for a few moments as the trees flashed by. "I guess I thought you wouldn't want to help...and... I really want to get to know you."
Shawn sighed. "All you had to do was ask, Holly. There's no reason to keep secrets from me. I may only have met you a few weeks ago, but you're my sister. I want to help you."
"Thanks." Holly said with a smile.
Casey arrived at an open field just outside the cordinates.
"Thank you google earth, sat images are always helpful when you need to focus on a place to get there." Casey stopped as he reached a small hill overlooking a small abandoned town. "and here we go."
Casey reached into his pocket and then took out his phone. He quickly began typing in a new text message.
"Might as well let the faction now i'm here... never know maybe they could help," he said as he pressed send on his phone. He suddenly got a quick reply, 'Other faction members already on location'.
Casey put the phone in his pocket and adjusted the bag over his shoulder. If they already knew about the place it was safe to assume that there were more people involved than just him.
"Might as well team up..." then took a deep breath, "now it's just a matter of finding them."
He walked towards the town following the road and slowly making his way when a Nissan cube drove by, Casey simply continued on his walk, trying not to bring any attention to himself. "Che, I would be there right now if I wanted to, but its better to keep a very low profile." He pulled out a small picture of a girl, and smiled feebly, "Now if only i knew where you are at." He stopped as he finally approached he town... it really was deserted for the most part.
"Now I wonder where backup is at?"
Angelus heard his phone buzz on the table and groaned. He grabbed his phone, missing several times before actually getting it. There was a text from Meng...again. Angelus sleepily read it, his eyes closing numerous times.
"I've reached just outside the coordinates. Possible encounter. Any of you know this man?"
There was an attached picture of the man. Angelus didn't recognize the man and put his phone back on the bedside table. He stood up and slowly got dressed, tracking where the text came from. Wichita, Kansas. He groaned loudly again and went over to his laptop that was lying on the desk, immediately booking a flight to Wichita. Angelus packed up his laptop and grabbed his phone along with a few clothes, which fit into a small duffel bag. He hoisted the duffel bag over his shoulder and took the elevator to the hotel lobby, checking out in a minute. Angelus limped to the airport, his body missing several hours of sleep, causing him to stumble a lot of times. He got on the plane, instantly falling asleep the minute he sat down.
Jason was releived that he didn't make a fool of himself or worse end up freaking out a complete stranger. He didn't know what to expect when he found out he would be working with other PA members, the thought worried him at first, but now he wasn't worried at all, he could tell this was going to work. Jason fallowed Lily to the back of the car and placed his backpack in the trunk, putting it close to Lily's duffle bag so not to take up room.
Jason then looked up at her, he didn't like it when people felt bad, "No worries, I have never really done the whole group thing, mostly just solo stuff. So I guess we are pretty much in the same boat", he smiled at her again as he closed the trunk. This should be good, she seems nice, I wonder what the other person will be like... He then reached into his pocket and grabbed his Blackberry, he pulled up the pictures of potential Phoenix Aliance members who might join on the mission, he then went to hand it over to Lily. "Here, you said there was three of us? Maybe these will help lower our search a little bit, if they decide to show." Jason never met many people from the faction, so he couldn't really say how reliable they would be, but he trusted them. After all we just want to help people right?
"It's up to you if you want us to wait for the third person. I really don't mind either way." Jason understood that no matter what they would have to complete the mission at one point or another, even if it was just the two of them.
Jacko's head was bopping to a sweet D&B track on his player, the headphones tucked firmly into his ear, while heading for the security checkpoint on his way out of the airport. He smiled inwardly to himself, as he glanced over the signs requesting a re-declaration of any licensed (or non-licensed, he mentally chuckled) firearms, knives, of other "articles of self-defense". It's nice to be your own "article of self-defense", he thought.
He was wondering if he should rent a car, or just bus it, maintaining his favourite "broke and not worth it" backpacker image. He was also wondering if any other members of his faction will be arriving - a message from Meng, his faction leader, closely followed Rebel's message, confirming his initial impression of her as a no-nonsense, full attention to every detail kinda woman. Just the kind needed to guarantee the survival of him and his friends. He was beginning to trust her. Plus, she was hot, no two ways about it. Considering the issue had her full attention now, he was sure he'd run into someone from his faction - question was, would he recognize them?
Just as he was wondering that, someone ahead of him on the security check line turned to scan the terminal, and he recognized the face - it was the guy who introduced himself as "Angelus" at the faction party - that is to say, before he had a few too many, as most of them did. He pulled the earphones out of his ears, left his place in the line, apologizing to the woman standing directly behind the man as he approached, and gently tapped him on the shoulder. "G'day, mate," he said.
The man turned his bleary eyes and looked at Jacko, a look of recognition slowly dawning on his face...
"You know I have a daughter that would love a guy just like you." the portly woman belched as she gobbled down more of the complementary airline peanuts "She likes'em tall dark and handsome like yourself." The woman continued as chewed peanuts flew free from her mouth and danced onto the tray in front of her as she over pronounced every syllable. "You know she's right" a elderly man agreed as he glared out of the plane window "Our daughter needs a gentleman like yourself Drew." the man said not taking his eyes off the window.
This is what I get for giving up my window seat. Drew thought to himself brushing off chewed up peanut debris on his pant leg. "Really that is very kind of you both to say, but I'm really not looking for a relationship at the moment." Drew said trying to be as kind as one could with out bluntly telling them to just stop. "Harry can you believe how modest he is." the woman raved "He's a heck of a catch I'll tell you." the gentleman blurted "Just wait till you meet our daughter she'll be at the airport Drewykins" the woman grabbed hold of Drew's knee firmly as if to see how plump he was before they feed him to their daughter.
With that the fasten seat belt light flashed. "Thank you!" Drew mumbled and let out a sigh of relief. "Oh no need to thank me sugar isn't that right Harry" the woman reached across to the older gentleman "uh-oh that's right no need to thank us." the man agreed this time taking his eyes off the window, then went right back.
I need to get rid of these two before I meet with anyone else from my faction. Drew thought "But how?", "But how what Drew?" the woman glared at him wide eyed. "huh" Drew replied not knowing he had just wondered out loud to himself. "You said but how, what do you need help with?", "Oh nothing I was just trying to think about how I am going to introduce myself to your daughter." Drew replied and smiled nervously.
A few minutes went by and the planes tires skipped across the run way. As the plane came to it's stop Drew grabbed his duffel bag from the over head then as soon as he tossed the strap over his shoulder he felt a large arm lock around his, "Well Drewykins lets go meet your destiny." the woman said smiling pulling Drew forward "my destiny right" Drew said half smiling back at the portly woman. "Harry move it, by the time you get out of this damned plane Drew and I will be bones and dust." "Sorry Milly" the man uttered and quickly shuffled forward.
As they entered the unloading terminal Drew anxiously glared about hoping to see anyone from his faction that he was supposed to meet here.
Jacko looked at Liam, wondering...he usually took the bus to avoid attracting attention to himself, but that only worked for a single person travelling on his own. Plus, with the way they were both looking after that all-night faction party, that might actually achieve the exact opposite. They both looked like a cross between two beat up bums with matching luggage under their eyes, and a couple of AA members who forgot what a wagon looked like, let alone felt like, having fallen off it a few weeks ago.
"Nah, stuff it, let's travel in style."
They left the terminal and sauntered over to the nearest car rental agency, where they secured themselves a low profile, black little Toyota Starlet. Throwing their bags in the back seat, they headed off towards the coordinates sent by Rebel and Meng, using the car's GPS as their guide.
Jacko, who was driving, pulled the car over to the side of the road approximately 300ft before reaching their alleged destination, which seemed to be somewhere in the heart of a deserted little mining town. Not a single living soul. He whistled softly. "Talk about the outback."
He turned to Angelus to ask him if he thought they should walk from here on, saw him pointing dead ahead silently, and followed his gaze to see a white Nisan cube parked across the street, just over the entrance to a small alleyway. The vehicle seemed to be empty, but - hang on - was that a soft electronic glow there, just under the dashboard?
"Guess someone beat us to it, eh?"
Holly blindly felt around for her phone as it vibrated madly somewhere between the seats. Shawn was driving now, and she had just woke from a nap.
"D*** phone." She muttered. Finally she found it and flipped it open.
"What is it?" Shawn asked.
"It's a text. It says we need to meet a guy named Drew at the airport." She answered.
"Which way is the airport?"
"Don't know. I should have a map in here somewhere..." She sifted through the insurance papers and owner's manuals in the glove compartment. "Aha, here it is!" She said triumphantly. She began flipping through the pages until she found a map of Wichita. "Okay, we're on I-35, looks like we'll need to merge onto I-135 and go north for a bit."
Suddenly, the car jerked sideways.
"What the hell, Shawn?!" Holly screeched.
"You said merge onto 135. We were about to miss it."
Holly sank back into her seat, covering her face with the map. "This is why I don't like it when I'm not driving." She muttered under her breath.
"What was that?" Shawn asked in a teasing tone. He knew exactly what she had just said.
"Nothing." Holly answered back. She wasn't joking around. Not when they had the mission to focus on. "Just get us to Wichita Mid-Continental."
"Okay, what's after I-135?"
Holly studied the map again. "We merge with I-235 and then keep going until we start seeing signs for the airport." She answered.
Virgil Barnaby
A sudden blurred movement marked Barnaby's entrance into the small town, his appearence hidden away by a small gap between two buildings. He was confident that he had made it through to the location undetected. Sitting on the ground, Barnaby tried to catch his breath for a moment. He had been using his ability pretty much non-stop until he had reached the co-ordinates given to him over his mobile and such extensive use tired even him out. He put his hand into his coat pocket and pulled out a bottle of water, took a small swig then placed it back where he had gotten it. He wanted to drain the small bottle of it's contents, but that would have just made him throw it back up again, wasting it and dehydrating himself even more.
After he had recovered somewhat, Barnaby stood back up, pulling out a flick knife from his inner coat pocket. He did not know what to expect after all, and he would not go into this place unprepared. Moving silently through the empty looking town with skilled efficiency gained from long drilled in practice, he made his way across, looking for any signs of the lab. He pulled up short when he saw two other people walking by. They did not notice him, but they had seen something further down. When they passed by, he poked his head out for a split second, taking in the street before ducking back into cover. Apparently there was a car, and judging from the state the town was in, it probably did not belong to a local.
Barnaby sat back on the ground, pulling his black cap down further to shield his eyes. He rubbed his unshaven face, realising that he must look very much like a homeless person. That's because you are a homeless person, idiot he reminded himself. He had abandoned his apartment when the agents had come for him. They were definatly professional. Most likely military covert ops. He wondered briefly if the police had even found the body of the man he had accidently killed.
These last few months had truely been some of the more unpleasent of his life.
He kept an eye open for anymore people. Barnaby doubted anyone would reckonise him, even those from his own faction. He mostly worked alone, doing work that was messaged to him. He did bump into a few members now and then, but he never spoke to them.
Barnaby kept on waiting. In a few hours, if no-one else turned up, he would go in after the two he had seen and see what this lab had to offer.
Drew Decker - "The One That Got Away"
Wichita, KS Airport Terminal
Drew stood in the terminal arm locked with his destiny Milly Jacobson while her husband guided the way to a almost certain demise. "Oooh, oooh" Milly shrilled, like a young child that had just won a free ice cream cone at the local county fair. "That's her Drewy right over there in the blue shirt can you see her? That's our beautiful Matilda!" Milly asked, while flailing her free arm in the air while the loose arm fat rippled like a flag trapped in a summer breeze.
Drew saw her alright. Matilda Jacobson was an easy three hundred pounds with red curly hair, and a acne ridden face. "Isn't she just lovely?" Milly blurted. Which stopped Drew from almost passing out from pure shock an aww. "Stunning" Drew replied now more then ever looking for any face he had saw on the contact roster that had been sent to his phone.
This can't be happening...
Drew thought to himself as he was being dragged through the terminal. When out of the corner of his eye he saw her. The woman had brown hair and stood about five feet, eight inches with big wondering brown eyes.
Holly... Drew remembered seeing her picture on his phone along with a few others. "Milly" Drew stopped walking, but could feel a hard tug on his right arm almost ripping it from the socket. "MILLY" this time Drew used a more firm and stern voice with the woman, and she stopped. "What is it Drewykins, don't get cold feet now!" Milly still determined to introduce Drew with his DESTINY. "Milly my wife is right over there." gesturing to Holly who was now making a b-line toward them.
"WIFE?!?" the woman fell back as though Drew had just told her that he was the son of the multimillionaire Jeremy Decker. "I'm sorry, Milly truly I am." Drew said trying to calm the woman down and keep her from making a scene.
Drew saw Holly was now only a few feet from them and had to think quick to put a end to all the commotion. "Honey!", Drew quickly embraced Holly with a massive hug turning her back toward Milly to hide the confused look that was more than likely on Holly's face. When Drew placed Holly back on the ground he whispered to her "Please just go with it" and lightly pecked her on the lips.
"Milly this is my wife Holly" Drew smiled hoping that Holly's face wasn't painted with pure anger. "Holly, this is Milly & her lovely husband Harry."
Mission 1 - Afternoon
IC: Rebel
He had been going over the schematics of the lab for the past while. This place was heavily fortified and would have been tough for the Factions to get through. The good thing about this was the fact that there needed to be people to staff the lab for it to be any sort of "fortified". As he scanned through the building using the security cameras he had powered back up, it was clear that the building had been deserted for the past few months. There must have been some sort of accident too, because some of the cameras were down completely, destroyed and rubble had been piled up in various rooms of the building.
Had there been some sort of fight or failed experiment? What happened to make all of the people abandon this lab?
Rebel wasn't entirely sure that sending the Factions to this lab had been a good idea. If he could've pulled them all back, he would, but it was more important to get in there and find out what was going on. That other group, the one that had found the place before him, they were already there. They were more than likely combing through the place now, trying to find whatever they could find and use it for themselves.
It was now or never. Despite his bad feeling, there was no reason why Rebel couldn't give them all the "all clear" and send them in. There was only one man looking through the building now. One man versus plenty of different Faction members...
Of course they would win if a fight happened, right?
Rebel began typing out a message to all of the members who were now in the area, hoping that they hadn't left out of impatience.
It's being searched, head in now. - REBEL
He had sent the message. All they had to do now was head to the lab and find for themselves what was going on.
The Man in Front
Meng waited patiently for an answer, hiding in her car for about an hour, but no one had responded. From what she had heard about Rebel, he was normally very helpful, but now he was silent. Frustrated, she texted an unencrypted message to Rebel on her sat. phone, "Darn it, Rebel. You must know who this man is. Why don't you reply to me?"
After a few more minutes with no reply, Meng figured she had waited long enough, and would have to go it alone. Peeking her camera over the dashboard another time, she confirmed the man was still standing in the alley. Meng then tucked her scope back in her bra, applied a pair of dark sun glasses to her face, and stepped out of her car into the blazing heat.
Quickly, Meng locked up her car and rushed over to the side of the abandoned store, hoping the man hadn't spotted her. Peeking in the dark window, it appeared to be some sort of mom and pop toy store. That could come in useful, she thought. Then, Meng turned her back to the store, looking back at her car, her purse hanging from her right shoulder. She thought for a while on what to do next.
A few minutes later, she saw a Toyota Starlet driving up. She pulled out her scope temporarily, and saw that Jacko and Liam were inside, then put it back into her bra. Jacko parked the Starlet a hundred feet from her car, and it seemed that they had spotted the GPS device on the dashboard of her car.
Then, Meng got a text message from Rebel. Finally, she thought, but it only read "It's being searched, head in now. - REBEL. When she saw Jacko and Liam exiting their vehicle, she waved her arms towards them, hoping they would see her. While they approached her, she saw a blur speed by her into the dark alley and felt a whisk of air as it went by that blew some of her long black hair into her face. She could hear a pair of double doors open and close quickly at the end of the alley. Meng guessed the blur was someone else who had entered the lab.
When Jacko and Liam arrived next to her, Meng held her index finger up to her lips, signaling them to remain silent. Meng then peeked briefly around the corner at the man, who was still standing in the covered alley that was the entrance to the lab.
Meng pulled her head back to the wall, and shouted out to the man. "You there, alone in the dark alley. We can see you and we've got you outnumbered. Please identify yourself."
"Please, just go with it." Holly heard Drew whisper just before kissing her. His eyes darted back to the couple and Holly immediately understood what he was doing.
Summoning her best acting skills, she turned her face to Milly and Harry. "Drew's been away on business." She smiled, and gave Drew the most loving look she could. "I'm so glad to have him back home!"
Milly's eyes were still wide with shock. "And, how long have you been married?" Milly asked.
"By who?"...
Drew let out a sigh of relief as the three started to sprint to the rental car. "I can't believe that worked, I was sure I was going to be sitting in a live sitcom of The Beverly Hillbillies!" Drew yelled letting out a small chuckle. "Oh and Holly thanks for going along with it and not slapping me." which is the image Drew had originally counted on happening, but was way more pleased with the outcome that had taken place.
The three got to the parking-lot, "so where did you park?" Drew asked while looking around for a vehicle he had never seen before. "Over here man!" Shawn shouted while unlocking the silver car he and his sister had come in. "Pop the trunk kid." Drew called out following behind. Shawn quickly popped the trunk and as he did Drew placed his bag in. "Shawn your driving! quick let's go." Shawn's eye's lit up "Hell yea this is what I am talking about some action!" Shawn hopped into the drivers seat and started the engine.
Drew looked at Holly who didn't seem all to pleased with the decision Drew had just made. "On second thought I would like to make it there alive, but not because I think you can't drive more of the fact that I think your sister might kill me." Drew smiled while taking the keys out and tossing them to Holly.
"Holly" Drew looked up at her "We need to get there fast, others from our faction could be in danger." Drew then opened the back door and hoped in. "Why don't you just drive Drew?" Shawn asked with a look of confusion on his face. Drew smiled, "because if we want to get there with out any speeding tickets I'll need to be able to focus on my powers."
The cars ignition roared and the tires squealed "Buckle up you two!" Holly shouted. With that they speed out of the parking lot, but Drew couldn't help but notice Milly and Harry standing there with their daughter Matilda a beautiful blond girl that looked like she just stepped out of a magazine.
"Figures just my luck!" Drew barked, "What's that Drew" Holly replied curiously "Nothing, so you single?" Drew knew the timing was off for humor, but was always one to make light of a bad situations, and Drew had a real bad feeling about this Pinhearst Lab they where speeding off to, a real bad feeling.
To be extremely truthful, Adam may have been trained by some unknown organization in the arts of using his powers and how to defend himself in certain situations, as well as having quite a large vocabulary despite having his memory wiped, he is not exactly versed in the modern ways. Hence when he had asked to come here, he had no idea that 'here' was really, exactly, 'here' being entrance to the Pinehearst lab.
Unknowing of the circumstances surrounding the exact area he was in, Adam had continued to kept to the shadows of the alley, hoping that he would not be found. Though, this had only made him that much more conspicuous, for he was placed directly at the entrance of the Pinehearst lab - his teleporter friend had placed him right at the coordinates, with out telling him, and he had forgotten that iPhones are extremely awesome.
Talking about his iPhone, it was ringing again.
Hopeful, Adam quickly withdrew the phone out of his pocket, and was delighted when the name 'REBEL' was flashing on screen. Excited, he slid his finger across his iPhone to unlock it, and frowned at the message.
'It's being searched, head in now.'
Somehow, he felt, or rather, was sure that it wasn't a reply to his message, rather a generic message to everyone - well, maybe REBEL was extremely busy right now to be able to play match-up.
Sighing, he was about to send REBEL another message when a voice rang from outside of the alleyway, addressing him.
Startled, he had looked at the direction of the sound, only to find no one. Afraid, he held on tight to his iPhone, the reply to REBEL still not written yet.
Oh, damn. Adam thought, truly panicking now. Had he been discovered by building 26 agents?
Though he had not been active through out the whole building 26 fiasco, he had heard of them, and had heard of how many were still chasing evolved humans. Quickly, he managed to type out the single word 'help' on it, before pressing SEND.
At least now, whether or not they've seen him texting or not, at least he had a chance. Better answer them, then.
"I am... T6T." Adam answered half-truthfully, using the name that his Faction friends have nicknamed him - which means that he was still identifying himself, just not with a name that is probably directly recognizable. So, he decided to follow up with a question of his own. "What do you people want?"
He had received a few messages over the past while, but he didn't have the time to answer them. This lab's defenses were getting trickier by the minute. The cameras he had gotten through well enough, but what did that really mean? So he could see, big deal. There wasn't anything but dust waiting for him.
What he really wanted was to get into the lab's computer files, but that was proving easier said than done. It seemed as though he was being blocked from remotely accessing anything of the lab's more secure electronic equipment.
That didn't make sense though. Most Pinehearst labs were pretty easy to hack into, at least for him. Something was different about this lab in particular. Something happened here that changed everything, but what?
From the debris scattered throughout the lab, he guessed that there had been some sort of attack or maybe an attempt at sabotage. That would explain why he had been locked out of the electronic systems and hardware, at least for the most part. Someone might have wanted to destroy the lab, but it never happened, not the way it supposed to at least... maybe.
Perhaps this lab was just designed this way, to keep things safe.
Rebel's computer lit up in front of him as he received yet another message. Seeing as he was positively stuck and couldn't get any further into the lab with the aid of the security cameras, Rebel decided it would be best to answer. One of the Factions might have found something.
Help.
That's all it said. According to the phone number he saw connected to the message, he could only guess that it was the man known as T6T. He had heard of him and the experiments that had been conducted upon him, but there was nothing on the man before only a few months ago. If he was in trouble, Rebel wanted to make sure nothing happened to him.
He honed in on T6T's location through his phone and discovered that he was right in front of the lab. Using the security cameras, he saw something he wasn't entirely sure about. Meng, the leader of a faction known as StreetLife, and a few of her members had T6T cornered in the entrance to the lab. They seemed to be threatening the man, though for what reason? StreetLife wasn't necessarily violent, not unless they had to be. To be honest, three versus one hardly seemed fair. He had to intervene, and fast!
Rebel quickly sent a message to all three of the StreetLife members in front of T6T:
STAND DOWN! NOT A THREAT! LEAVE. HIM. ALONE. - REBEL
He had hoped he made his point clear. T6T was no danger to anyone, not at the moment at least. He was only doing what he, Rebel, had asked him to do and that was to investigate what was so important about that lab. Hell, T6T might find some answers to what was done to him in there... he might even be the reason the lab was sabotaged, if it indeed had been sabotaged in the first place, as Rebel had guessed.
Virgil Barnaby
Barnaby moved very carefully through the building, making every step with extreme caution. If the lab was already being searched, he did not want to be caught. Plus the structure did not look all too sturdy. It seemed to have been damaged, although wether by sabotage or some other cause he could not be sure.
Suddenly, he heard movement ahead. Looking around, he saw that there was a hole in the ceiling a few meters to his right. He jumped against the wall next to it and propelled himself upwards through the hole, landing on the inside as quietly as he could. He layed flat on his stomach, looking out of the gap, waiting for the other intruder to show himself. A few seconds later, he saw a man pass by slowly, thankfully not looking up.
Slowly reaching into his pocket, he withdrew his phone and sent a text to the one that had sent him here, Rebel. Entered lab. Found your searcher. Please advise; take him out, shadow him, or leave him be? The message was simple, and he hoped it would be replied to quickly. The stranger was moving on and Barnaby would soon lose sight of him.
He received yet another message, this one coming from a man named Virgil Barnaby. He had gotten sight of the man from the other group and was wondering what to do next.
Rebel had been watching him through the cameras, not too sure the man was even aware he was being watched. He seemed harmless enough, but was clearly armed and ready for trouble should it find its way to him. All he was doing was looking around, doing exactly what the other Factions were doing. The only problem was that he was a part of a group Rebel knew nothing about. They stayed cleverly hidden, just beneath the surface.
Were they the enemy or just another group of special people looking to make it in a cruel world?
"Approach with caution. Man is an unknown. Is armed. Your choice on what to do. - REBEL"
That's all he could tell him. If he was able to intercept this group's messages, they were probably able to intercept his own, though he doubted it...
All Rebel knew was that the man had a gun and anyone who was armed wasn't necessarily meant to be messed with. It would be up to Barnaby on what to do. He could try to follow the man, though that might not be the best idea. Maybe he could talk to him, call out to him? Even then, it might be best to just ignore him completely...
"I am... T6T. What do you people want?"
The man spoke hesitantly, as if trying to remember his own name. At the very same instant, Jacko's mobile phone vibrated, with similar sounds coming from his faction members' own devices. He quickly glanced at it - Rebel again, advising them that the man was doing the same thing they were - following his intel. Which made sense, really, considering the number of specials Rebel was connected to - why would he only send a select few, when he could send tens or even hundreds of us?
But T6T? Seriously...
"Greetings, T6T," he said somberly, gently placing his hand on Meng's shoulder as he did so, to calm her down. She seemed to be on edge - not surprising, with her kind of background, and considering what building 26 had put so many of them through. "I am R2D2..." He cracked up, tears springing to his eyes.
"Nah, just kiddin' mate," he walked up to the man, holding his hands up to indicate he had no concealed weapons, exposing himself to the light shining into the alley, and at the same time attempting to catch the man's eye with a friendly grin.
"I'm Jacko, and these are Meng and Liam - we're here to look into that lab, same as you."
He extended his hand out to be shaken, hoping the man would let down his guard long enough to suss him out and maybe, just maybe, finally get to work - they were already running behind, to judge by that blurry movement that brushed past them while they had their little standoff with T6T - the search for information was well on the way.
"Drew are you OK?" Holly repeated herself.
They where almost to the location, but they picked up company about three miles back. A trooper clocked Holly doing 135 miles per hour with no sign of slowing down in a 55 mile per hour speed zone.
Drew knowing pulling over was not a option, not now looked out the back window then toward the wooded areas to their left and right of the car. He remembered when he looked at the maps during his flight connection in Denver, CO. he saw that after the reservation area that they where driving through now... well Kansas becomes very rural.
Drew looked down at his hands that where now glowing a very dim greenish color, "Turn left after this sign Holly!" Shawn said quickly, not noticing how fast the turn was coming up. Now's the time... Drew thought to himself. His eyes turned pale white and the back of the car exploded in a emerald green flash.
Drew muttered some soft spoken words that couldn't be made out clearly then slide his fingers together connecting his two hands. Has he did this it was like the forest came to life shifting and up rooting itself and completely hiding the road they had turned down. Between the trees the lights of the trooper car could be seen continuing straight, and out of harms way.
"Watch out!" Drew yelled as their car came to a screeching halt almost colliding with a black little Toyota Starlet. "Good driving Andriette" Drew chuckled and lightly rubbed Holly's right shoulder. "Looks like we're here." with that Drew opened the back door of the silver sedan and got out. " You coming?"
Angelus sighed. Jacko was one of those joking people. Not something he was fond of. He glanced at T6T, still a bit wary. Angelus was still a little twitchy - just like Meng was. He had a weird feeling that another faction might be arriving soon. That feeling was confirmed when a car almost collided with their Toyota Starlet and a young man stepped out of the newly arrived car. Angelus frowned and stepped back into the shadows, extremely on edge now. He glanced back at the entrance to the Pinehearst Lab. They had to get in. Now.
Barnaby looked down at his phone as the message was replied. His choice huh? That indicated a lot. Rebel did not know about the man, meaning he was not sent here by him. Was he a former agent of Building 26 or Pinehearst? Had he come to collect any information he could find? Or destroy it? Or was he a member of some other orginisation that Rebel was not aware of? In Barnaby's opinion, there were far too many different possiblities. He stroked the blade of his knife as he thought.
Dropping back down from the ceiling, Barnaby made his decision. Having a man unaccounted for roaming the hallways with a gun was far too dangerous, an accident waiting to happen. But if he spent time hunting him down and taking care off him, the whole point of being here was out the window. He needed to collect any information that he could find that had not been deleted or destroyed. Before he went to look for it, he sent another text to Rebel;
Please advice any other contacts that the man inside is armed and potentially dangerous. I am currently searching for info.
Putting his phone away, Barnaby began a room by room search for anything that might contain information. The first few were labs, with equipment that he did not have a clue what they did. He took an interest in several test tubes, picking them up and placing them into his pocket. Eventually, he found a computer and booted it up. While it started, he took off his jacket and the test tubes, breaking the glass inside his jacket and sprinkling it on either side of the corridor that lead up to the computer room. With the glass in place, he would now hear anyone approching. He shook his jacket and put it back on.
He walked back tothe computer, taking a portable hard-drive he had borrowed from a store on his way here from his trouser pocket and plugging it into a USB port. He did not bother searching through the entire database (if there was much left), just downloading as much as he could. With that in progress, he looked into some filing cabinates, finding them all empty. After pulling all the draws out, he noticed a file that had fallen down the back. He picked it up, putting it next to the computer. He took out his phone again and sent another text to Rebel;
Found a computer. Downloading info now.
With everything sorted, Barnaby waited for the download to finish, keeping an ear out for any glass crunching that bretrayed an approching person.
He watched Barnaby go to work on the computer. Hopefully his uploading of files would work. They wouldn't need to do too much searching after getting that info. The only problem was that man. He hadn't found anything of worth on that computer, he had checked it out and just walked away, deeper into the lab.
It happened faster than he thought it would.
The computer Barnaby had been working on began to flash words across the screen:
DOWNLOAD INCOMPLETE. ACCESS DENIED. ACCESS DENIED. ACCESS DENIED.
It kept flashing the words ACCESS DENIED over and over, and Rebel could tell what was happening to the computer. It was overloading, heating up. Either that man had sabotaged the computer, or there was just something wrong with it, Rebel couldn't tell. All he knew was that Barnaby had to get out of there and fast.
He sent the man a message, forcing it through the system as fast as possible so that Barnaby received it within seconds.
GET OUT. IT'S GONNA EXPLODE. - REBEL
He could only watch helplessly, hoping Barnaby took his advice.
Adrenaline still course through Holly, causing her whole body to shake, and her legs to feel weak. The drive had been intense, maybe too intense. And Drew. Drew had saved them from a nightmare of problems with his ability. She pushed the memory of the high-speed race to the lab out of her mind. Now she had to deal with the other people here. She looked down at her cell phone, hoping for instructions from Rebel. Her expression changed to dismay when she saw that the battery had died. She heard Drew come up beside her. "You ready?" Barnaby saw the screen start to flash and he went over to inspect it. The words ACCESS DENIED kept popping up on the screen and he cursed, pulling out his portable hard-drive. Then he felt his phone go off in his pocket and he looked at the message.
GET OUT. IT'S GONNA EXPLODE. - REBEL
"Well that ain't good", Barnaby said to himself quietly, and he instantly left the room in a blur of movement. Then he realised in a flash of thought he had left behind the file he had found in the filing cabinate. With a curse, he sped back into the room. That might be the only piece of information in the lab, and he would be damned if he was going to let this trip go to waste. He reached the room and grabbed the file just as the computer exploded. With his ability on, he could see the cracks appear in the machine and flames start to blech forth.
Fleeing the room as fast as his power would let him, the force of the explosion still blasted him forwards. Landing hard on his side, he felt a burning sensation on his face and blood leaking slowly over the left half of his face. Wiping the red liquid out of his eye, he noticed that the file he had saved was on fire. He quickly stomped it out. Picking it back up, he folded it up and placed it in his pocket. Whatever was in there better be worth it.
Dragging himself to his feet, he brushed himself down. He had lost his hat and the back of his coat was smoldering. He winced slightly as he touched the left side of his face. Now that is going to leave a scar he thought to himself. Anger started to fill him. That man he saw must have trapped the computer, making it explode if anyone tried to download it's contents. He had been lucky to escape with the file, let alone his life. That guy was going to pay. It was too dangerous to let him wander around. Letting him go would put anyone else who came down here in mortal peril. He needed to be eliminated.
He pulled his phone out, which had miraculousy survived undamaged, and text Rebel;
Got out fine. Got some hard copy info. Going after that guy. He put the phone away and pulled out his flick knife.
He might have a gun, but Barnaby was faster. It would not help him now. Barnaby stalked the hallways, looking for the man who had almost turned him into tiny pieces.
"I am... T6T. What do you people want?" Meng heard the man in the alley speak hesitantly, and then their phones vibrated. She had finally gotten Rebel's attention. "STAND DOWN! NOT A THREAT! LEAVE. While Jacko went out to make contact, Meng typed back an unencrypted message to Rebel on her phone:
"STANDING DOWN. THANX FOR THE INFO. KEEP IN TOUCH. LOVE AND KISSES--MENG."
"I'm Jacko, and these are Meng and Liam - we're here to look into that lab, same as you."
When Jacko mentioned her name, Meng came out from around the corner with Liam, just in time to see Jacko offer out his hand.
"Thanks for the introduction, Jacko. T6T, I'm Meng, the leader of the StreetLife faction." Meng bowed towards the man she now knew as T6T. "Greetings. Sorry that I sounded threatening before. I didn't know if you could be trusted, but Rebel has now confirmed that we are on the same side. So if you're open to working with us on this mission, we could use the help. This place doesn't look that big from afar, but who knows how many sub-levels there are or what we'll find inside."
Seeing another car arrive behind Jacko's and Liam's Starlet, Meng realized more people must be arriving and they needed to hurry. So she headed over to the double doors that are the main entrance, grabbing a handle with one hand, and opening the door ajar. Suddenly, she heard a loud explosion somewhere inside the upper level of the building, which shook her a little. Some debris flew out the open door, but Meng wasn't rattled by fear. She had been through much worse.
"We need to get in now," Meng noted with a stern face as she motioned Jacko and Liam inside with one hand. "So are you coming, T6T?"
IC: Tracker
He had been searching through the lab for awhile now. He hadn't found much, but it was plain to him he was being watched. The cameras had activated on their own and seemed to be following him throughout the building.
Whoever was following him had to have sent people after him. Maybe they wanted him dead or perhaps they were after the same thing he was.
He had checked a computer near the front of the building, on the first floor. He imagined that he could slip in and out without any trouble, but this was clearly not going to happen. The computer had nearly overloaded itself just trying to operate and he nearly got himself blown up. Luckily he managed to stop the computer before any major damage was done, but he was still no closer to his goal.
Upon seeing nothing else in the building, at least on the ground floor, he had searched through the top floors. There was even less here than there had been downstairs. Just rubble and dust.
There was only one last option. He had to head down into the sub-levels of the lab. According to the schematics his group had sent to him, there was quite an elaborate set-up underneath all this rubble. Perhaps this was even a ruse, an illusion set over the eyes of any wanderers trying to stick their noses where they didn't belong. If the lab was abandoned up top, perhaps everyone went to work underground...
He picked his way down to the basement area, walking down a dusty and rickety staircase into the depths below. The basement seemed rather old. It was as though no one had been down here for quite some time. Maybe no one used the hidden door he was looking for? It didn't matter too much though, he had his way in once he found it.
After a time of careful poking and prodding, he found the door. It was cleverly hidden and could barely be found if one didn't know to look for it.
He stepped through the door and shut it behind him, locking it and forcing it shut with some chairs that were set up along the wall of the room he found himself in. It was thoroughly and would take some time to get through.
Hopefully he had enough time to find what he needed. If he was being followed, he couldn't count on that door staying shut too long.
It was time to get to work.
Just as he was re-passing the front doorways, he heard someone shout. "Hello there, my name is Drew Decker. I.. I mean we, where sent here from Rebel. Is everyone OK? what was that explosion?" Although he had some basic knowledge on the subject, he was no tracker, and would need assistance in finding the guy. With a sigh, he walked back out into the light, looking around at the surrounding people.
He realised with a internal chuckle that he must look awful. He was bleeding quite badly from his burned and scarred left side of his face, and he was still smocking slightly. Without bothering to comment on his appearence, he paused before speaking, allowing everyone to notice his sudden arrival.
"I was sent by Rebel. I'm Barnaby, he started blankly, getting straight to the point. "I found some files, he continued, his English accent slurred by the explosion he was in a few moments ago. He pulled out the slim file he had saved, the edges burned slightly. He put them back in his pocket. "Most of the ground floor is empty from my inspection. There is another man inside. Armed. Rigged a computer to explode. He'll regret that", Barnaby carried on, scratching his damaged face. That last bit was said quitely, although wether any of the others heard he did not care. "I was sent by Rebel. I'm Barnaby" "I found some files", he said, seemingly pausing for breath. Meng noted he had an English accent. Casey had seen the speeding car pass by a few minuted after receiving the text message from rebel. If anything it seemed like a good lead to follow.
"Might as well use it now." Casey said as he began to teleport following the car through the rooftops, untill a came to a stop in front of a building.
The crash was an attention grabber, but the explosion took the cake.
"They surely are making a mess of things..." Casey told himself, but was not surprise to see its occupants, plus the people nearby having abilities. "Guess I was right about rebel not only asking me to look. Should I introduce myself?"
Casey thought better of it, it was better to find out what was the situation better. So Casey simply teleported close enough to hear without raising an alarm. As soon as he found himself close he began to hear the conversation.
"...sent by Rebel. I'm Barnaby" "I found some files", he said, seemingly pausing for breath. Casey noticed the British accent. He pulled out a slim file, temporarily, the edges of which were burned slightly. "Most of the ground floor is empty from my inspection. There is another man inside. Armed. Rigged a computer to explode." "I was about to try and follow him. Now everyone is here, what is the plan?"
He could see the Asian woman face make a small smile, then slightly turn.
'what was that' Casey thought to himself.
The asian woman began to talk, "My suggestion: We prove ourselves to each other. We show each other the text we got from Rebel inviting us here, and at the same time, we swap mobile numbers. Thereafter, we'll be able to trust each other and contact each other inside the lab."
The British man backed up and turned around to face her, the asian women let close the front door and turned herself to face the unnamed man and woman that had just approached. She pointed at them with her left index finger. "That goes for you two also." She turned back to face "Barnaby", "Oh, and Barnaby, I think you should share that file with us. It could be vital to avoid, ahem, further traps."
Casey watched the exchange as they presented themselves and showed the text messages to each other, but mostly to the asian woman, it looked as she had taken charge of the situation. He saw the small exchange between the man and a woman, as he reached for his phone and showed it. The woman made a small gesture to the vehicles.
"Guess she's trying to get away from the situation..." then he noticed it for a small moment, someones hair inside the car they had some in, and with his ability see that it was someone with an ability, "Or maybe she has an ace under the sleeve. Than why is she so hesitant?"
The woman still did not show her phone... and Casey didn't like what would happen if she didn't, so he did what he does best... distract.
He teleported directly in the middle of the group and said, "Can I join the party as well if I have my Rebel invitation, or is it club member exclusive?"
