So, is there a deeper meaning behind the book Claire's linear algebra professor was reading, or did they put it just in there to make me choke on my Thai chicken curry?

Hilarious. biggrin.gif

I think it was there just to make you choke...that book is indeed hilarious, although VERY cheesy.."Pentagon of Death!" I got that book for my wife and she loves it biggrin.gif

GoldSeven
Ah, so it is an actual book! Okay. I thought it was part of Claire's hallucination already. Like "Moby ****** on Speed" or something like that. biggrin.gif

Edit: lol! I never meant to trigger the bad word filter...
Gamistar
I've read it! It's a brilliant book, highly reccomended

Yeah, I couldn't believe it when I came across it at the book store. They released another parody of her work, "Sense, Sensibility and Sea Monsters" but I haven't gotten that one yet...

Was the book what freaked Claire out so that she said, "Is this a joke?". I think I missed something there. Also, something seemed a little fishy with the professor.
Trihan
When Claire said "Is this a joke?" she was referring to the equations on the board.

Did she think they were hard or easy (like her roommate thought)? She thought it was hard, so that made her freak out and have hallucinations and then leave the class?
Tarot
The book amused me though I never cared for algebra. Give me math I can actually apply to real life situations.

She had a daydream of agents aiming tranq guns at her and then shooting her in the middle of her classroom. That's why she ran away. It didn't necessarily have to do with the equation.

Thanks, I don't know why that scene confused me so much. Usually people don't have audible reactions to daydreams. I thought she was hallucinating.
Shizniddle Snap
Yeah that was a really odd scene. I didn't get it.
Henock
There is also a book in the series called, "Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters"

i think it was just a standard dream based on the kinds of stress she has had to put up with coupled with her falling asleep during a math test she didn't even want to take.

And if I read her reaction correctly (and as a teacher for Latin as well as an epicly failing maths student, a long time ago, I have a lot of experience with student reactions), she definitely thought the exam was ridiculously hard.

I don't know enough algebra to talk, though. biggrin.gif

I couldn't see the whole problem (was more of it visible to those with widescreen sets?) but what I saw didn't look difficult enough to be the single problem that would determine whether you were fit to take the guy's class. Straightforward system of linear equations with small-integer coefficients.

I think so. If you learned about matrices in high school it wouldn't be difficult. And certainly not the type of problem that could distinguish 35 students out of 100+, I don't think. Anyway, like Claire's roommate, I was kind of wondering how Claire got into the school if it really was as academically exclusive as she made it out to seem. Maybe Matt Parkman had a chat with the dean for her.

I think it was there just to show us how far Claire had come and whilst she may may believe she is returning to normality, in fact, it is quite the opposite.

It was the school she wanted to get into, simply.

Micah AKA Rebel worked his magic in one of the recent iStories and got her into the college. So, there's your answer to how she got into college.

Um you might want to read I-Story.

Um, I don't even know what iStory is. Is that the same thing as the graphic novels?

Thanks to the PP for the explanation re: Micah.

Well, psychic persuasion aside, let's look at a few factors. For the sake of this, we'll ignore the good scores that she mentioned.

1) Her adoptive father works for the government, as she said.
2) Her biological father (or at least, the serial killer in his skin) is a junior senator for one of the biggest (population-wise) states in the country.
3) Her family (on her father's side) is pretty well-off, and a very well-established family.

Even if the really good scores that were implied on her part weren't enough, I'd be willing to bet any one of those would be a pretty good help.

I story is different from the GN's. There are links on the NBC.com page.
