The poll had exactly what I was thinking after the end of the episode: "Meh". It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I'd call it the perfect example of a 2 1/2-star rating.

My thought process:

OK, Nathan's having trouble remembering things.

Now he's seen that his past girlfriend didn't run away, but died.

And now he's explaining it to Swoosie Kurtz.

And now Swoosie Kurtz had him killed.

... But what does that have to do with anything? Yes, it lead to Sylar's reemergence, but it all just felt so... unnecessary. Like, "OK, all of this stuff is happening, but what is it doing for the plot?".

I keep seeing all of our heroes try to lead normal lives (and don't get me wrong, I like that), but nothing seems to be happening. What is this "direction" Samuel keeps referring to? Why does he need to expand his "family" to go in that "direction"? I like a story that keeps me guessing, but in this case I feel like these are things we should already know and they just aren't saying it.

I don't know. Maybe the rapid pace of S3 has thrown my sense of timing out of whack. But it just seems like Heroes is becoming static, and we aren't getting anywhere. It's reminding me of the first few episodes of Dollhouse, where the plot poked its head out every once and a while but never really got moving until halfway through the season.

*sigh* Here's to hoping next week is better.

Yea I didn't really like the whole storyline with Milly, although there was more Nathan ;D
And I want to know more about the carnival people -.- Hopefully next week's episode will be more exciting

It still feels like they are trying to kill this show and it still feels like these people are genuinely stupid. I want some smart heroes- not a bunch of idiots.

The whole arc of Nathan/Sylar in this past episode was pretty weak. Recalling a murder and then going out of his way to dig up the past is not like Nathan, he was the kinda guy that liked to keep things buried, and you have half an episode of him digging up things he knows he shouldn't be. There are other ways to kill him- more interesting ways too. it also happened way waaaay too fast. "Your daughter died, i saw it happen." "Oh? Well hold on while i call a hit on you. You see we rich people keep a hit man on speed dial. Ours is right next to our lawyer. Oh the stories i could tell you about where I accidentally called my hit man instead of my lawyer! Problems still got solved though that's what matters!"

I still hate Dial a hero - and I thought they could have come up with a better story for the guy on the roof but it was a little funny.

Still cant figure out how Hiro can suddenly go back in time- much less do so at will 40+ times and only suffer fatigue and a headache when last time he stopped time he himself stopped for a loooong time.

Even worse they still cant seem to figure out he can GO BACK IN TIME AND SEE A HEALER! Or find one in the present! If i were Ando id be on the phone with the new company on trying to find a healer- or to get Hiro to take Peter back in time to linderman- Hiro gets healed and take Peter back to the present - and tah-dah! Peter can really save some lives in a hospital. Just what he wanted.

But nooooo - this kinda thinking is beyond the writers. They have to remain ignorant and stupid.

keep in mind that this isn't EXACTLY nathan.

I did feel the whole story line was a little irrelevant, but I liked the episode.

I totally agree! it's like we're on a plane in a holding pattern waiting to land. unless they can tie the death somehow else into the plot rather then Sylar's reemergence, it was a waste.

The storyline with Hiro/Ando was redundant and annoying. come on!!

The only scenes worth anything tonight were the ones with Noah/Claire/Peter . Chuck everything else!

I think they have the writting brain trust spread too thin, doing the graphic novels, the online content, etc and oh ya, the show on TV! can't i just watch on Monday night and see it all, I don't like having to study to watch tv, but i also think it dilutes the creative talent.

I'm sort of on the fence with this one, which comes as a surprise considering the mostly snore worthy last couple of weeks here. Hiro and Ando being brought back was refreshing since I'd prefer to see them every week. Negative side is the fact the writers have more or less kept them away from the rest of the cast at the moment and kept these two isolated and more or less just passing the time not doing much. I've seen this thing happening since Fugitives except for like the last two episodes where they were FINALLY brought back into the main story.

I would have liked to have seen Hiro's time trips even if they were redundant to a point. I did like the way Hiro talked that guy off of the ledge and helped him begin to sort out personal issues and fears. THAT is the Hiro I want to see and not the goofy Hiro that runs around screaming "Yatta!" every two seconds like a Japanese school girl in an anime. The "Yatta!" has worn itself out. Less "Yatta!" and more of Hiro and Ando taking their "Dial a Hero" service into more serious territories. Also, does Ando still have his ability?? It hasn't been mentioned or seen at all this season and I hope Hiro somehow undid Ando's power from ever being received when he changed Ando's personal history.

Okay, back to the episode. Tracy's plot was pointless plus the fact, when she was turning all emo and changing back to water her bracelet would have FALLEN OFF OF HER WRIST AS SOON AS SHE CHANGED INTO WATER FORM. I've never liked the nonsense with hydrokinetic characters who can keep their clothing intact when shifting from hydro form to human form. WOULDN'T WORK THAT WAY!! Now with all biological aspects of the human body shifting into a hydro form and remaining intact when shifting back to human form is believable considering that is all part of the person's DNA. A cheap bracelet from Sam's Club would NOT be able to be shifted into hydro form. Sorry, I know super powers are fiction, but even in that respect a realistic approach needs to be taken with them.

To Bizarro Nathan's story, I sort of found it kind of stupid when Peter just assumes Nathan has developed the ability that he used to have. Nathan, the real one, of course never showed any signs of having such an ability when Peter was displaying multiple ability use early on. I don't know, and wouldn't "Nathan" find it sort of strange that he has developed all of these new powers yet can't fly anymore?? Don't give me the crap where Sylar imitated Nathan's flying ability! Sylar has been able to do levitation stuff since season one which would explain multiple occasions where one second he is on the ground, cut away to the people chasing him and then cut back to Sylar and he is already on the building's roof.

So, this episode wasn't as deserving of a negative rating as the last few weeks, but still WHERE IS THIS SEASON LEADING?? All we have are the characters attempting resumption of average lives with some mystery thrown in. The writers appear to be hearkening back to season one's ability to just stretch the story along until the end of the season with quite a bit of episodes made up of things that really don't move the plot along. We really need the pacing established with Villains and Fugitives and get this plot moving already. IF not, then why is the volume for this season called 'Redemption'? I haven't seen any true redempting at all yet.
Dumbsaint
I hated the Snathan thing since they started it. I figured I'd give it a chance and it was interesting enough the past couple episodes but it was handled stupidly this episode.

Here's a better way to kill "Nathan": Have him try to fly off the top of a building and go splat since he can no longer fly and hasn't seem to have noticed yet. Why hasn't he noticed :/. Why do the writers on this show just ignore stuff that is inconvenient to the story of the time, it's cheap.

I really wish they'd show some links to the past. Was kinda hoping the daughter's death would be part of an Arthur Petrelli led conspiracy or something interesting.
SuperT
This episode was pretty boring and completely worthless. The only story plotline I like thus far is Tracy's search for redemption - but other than that, meh.

I feel like I have NO IDEA where the story is going this season for some reason. Like the writers are just spinning their wheels and coming up with stuff just to fill the episodes.
ClayAikenRocks
Just keep in mind guys, if the theme of this Volume is Redemption, then both Nathan's and Hiro's stories are not irrelevant at all. I know we can't have an entire season of each hero separately trying to make things right, so yeah, some sort of central plot has to develop (seems that is what the Carnival is for), but you can't say redemptive stories are irrelevant in a volume called Redemption.

Now on to the negative. Wile Hiros story was much better than it was the last time we saw him, Hiro himself reminds me too much of a child. And a stupid child at that. After all Hiro has been through, you would think he would act a little more mature. Adults with a good outlook on life don't act like 8 year olds.
conspiracytheory
Not a single "plot" thread from yesterday's episode engaged me. If the Heroes team keeps greenlighting these mishmashes of dull, unconnected stories week after week, this will certainly be the last season I ever watch (and probably the last season ever produced).

Chances are it probably is. The potential I personally used to see in this series was squandered a long time ago or it starts ALMOST fulfilling that potential and then SPLAT, SCREECHHHHHHHHHHH, it stops and then back pedals to OVER LOAD OF TALKING WITHOUT REALLY SAYING ANYTHING OR MOVING THE PLOT ALONG.

Back before Heroes started and I was reading press materials it made the show sound like it was going to be the story of how these core characters not only discover their abilities but discover their own personal potentials and each set out on a journey to fulfill personal destinies. I was also lead to believe that SOME of them were going to come together and form some sort of team to help the planet, y'know much like what the founders of The Company eventually were revealed to have done.

Okay, season one was the origin story but after that I was expecting these characters to become what the original press materials for the show were talking about. Fast forward to season four after all of the nonsense and thus far only Hiro and Peter are actively using their gifts to help and protect others. Everyone else, to me, just exists. Personally, I think it is sad that I talk about Heroes like this, and many of you have openly noticed how negative I have been in the past. But, I am that way because I see the series start to kind of move forward and then back pedal to earlier irrelevant ideas that have already been done before.

Truthfully, I WOULD like to see Heroes finally pick up and become better than it is, but in reality I would not at all be surprised to see NBC drop the series like a hot potato by the end of the season. If Heroes manages to make it to a fifth year I will honestly be surprised. Thus far, I haven't enjoyed the plots and only a few, teeny, tiny things make me stick around until the end.
Lams
i was enjoying this season, until this episode. everything was so disconnected, so about nothing... what were those scenes with claire and noah? what about the new characters? it seems that they got afraid of showing new things and just kept with what was already played...
tracy scene - oh good you got the actor who played her boss back. good for you, heroes team. now what about some story?
hiro scene- we got the idea. sometimes powers are not enough to save people. already played two episodes ago. and probably a few more times during the series
nathan/angela scenes - what's the point of this story? unless this develops in the next few episodes, this was the stupidest story ever! but - attention - in the end it got really good. i loved the last scene. but only that.
the circus people - ok, finally, near the end of the episode, some interesting stuff is shown. but why only one scene? three episodes in and i don't think anyone understand what's with these people, and i would really like to know, because it looks interesting.
Azedenkae
I agree with Lam.

I actually liked the past three episodes, until this one. I was truly disappointed at the long, drawn out storylines that not only does not really contribute anything to, well, anything, but it was rather boring as well.

Yeah, so apparently Nathan accidentally killed someone earlier on. So he gets shot (I mean Sylar), and now he revives as Sylar. Yada yada. Though, it's just not exciting enough. I expect more action, or something, really, more exposing of what's to come, not just more sentimentality and random stuff.
FlyingGirl
Ok, I haven't finished the episode, but the only thing I have issue with is the fact that Peter seemed to accept so easily that Nathan now has multiple powers. It was like "oh, ok then" and then carried on with something else. Seemed a bit jarring.

Also the scenes with Noah and Claire, whilst sweet, were kinda boring and could have been done in one scene rather than two or three.

But it's been one boring episode out of four. I don't think we should declare the show dead yet.
