During the commercial break, we were shown a short film made by Milo. It had Masi in it and he helped children cross the street and he helped a women get her bag and he got praise for it. This was a good short film for a wonderful organization and I hope to see more of this. What did you think of the short film we saw?
SaturnCity
I believe it was called "David Knoll Finds His Soul".

I thought it was adorkable (in the best way). XP Oh, and 2 words: Olivia Munn! ohmy.gif
Did she talk about being in this film on her show Attack of the Show!? I haven't watched the show in a while.

It was a cute little commercial. I wasn't that impressed to be honest though. I mean for what it was it was well put together.

Though if you really want to get into it I am a bit confused as to what it was saying. That we can no longer do the right thing for the sake of it being right? That you have to get some hott chicks number as a reward out of it? I dunno *shrug*

I think the moral might have been "Do nice things, nice things will happen to you." or, perhaps, "Say thank you when people do nice things for you."

I thought it was cute and also proves the old adage that "no good deed goes unpunished" (at least until the last 5 seconds of it).

Yeah I mean I guess it was sort of suggesting that we need to as a whole be more kind to one another. But doing something for the thanks is kind of messed up, when you think about it. I liked when he saw she forgot the bad and there was that slightly annoyed "Ah damnit here we go again" because that was realistic. The other stuff was just sort of..I dunno.
DoctorClaude
I could relate to it well, because I love helping others like this. It's gratifying alone to be nice to others and help them, but it is more incredible to be rewarded with a thank you or a smile.

I hope this video inspires other people to go out and just...be nice. Help others in the way that you would like to be helped.

"Do nice things and hot girls will give you their numbers and do the suggestive "call me" hand sign."

... with Olivia Munn!

Am I seriously the only one wigging out about the fact that she was in the film? XD

My 10yr old daughter said it was dumb. I have to agree with her.

Well, despite what you and your daughter's opinion is, I'm gonna have to disagree. It was simply a story telling us to be kinder. The world's a thankless place sometimes. Even if people don't always stop to say thank you for you doing something kind, it doesn't mean you shouldn't be nice. Maybe you'll actually get what's coming to you in the end. People who do bad things get thrown in jail easily enough. Doing good stuff is rarely rewarded, but it doesn't mean we can't still do good deeds.

But, just for the sake of the argument, can you tell us why you and your ten year old daughter think it was stupid?
Begemot Geroi
I thought it was sort of cheesy, but cheesy in that, "Awww, that's so adorable!" kind of way. I also think that the little vignette had a good moral to it (Golden Rule, do unto others, etc., etc.)

That isn't what I saw at all. I saw a dude who only felt good about doing good when he DID get rewarded for it.

As someone who tries to maintain a healthy level of polite in my daily life, I understand full well what it can feel like. Going out of your way to hold a door open, or to reunite someone with something they dropped, all without a second glance. And I also understand that all of it is made worth it for the one time out of ten when somebody offers a friendly smile or an expression of appreciation, no matter how small. So yes, I get the basis of what this short little commercial was trying to say.

I just feel it is sort of a lame message in the sense that...you shouldn't need incentive. Had that chick not thanked him, would he have just continued on his downtrodden way? Would he have stopped trying all together?

I would have liked the reward be a little more genuine and a lot less cheesy then a booty call, is all.

Well, considering that Milo was the one who directed it, you have to expect a certain level of sexiness to it. It was a silly little film that ended in a silly and interesting way. This wasn't a film attempting to tug at your heart strings or be more than it was trying to be. It's not gonna win awards, or at least nothing major. It's not a grand masterpiece. It was a little thing that showed us to just be kind and that, somewhere along the line, you might rewarded for being a good person.

You do also have to look at it in a different sense. Masi's character was doing all of these nice things, being an all-around good guy, and yet no one ever said anything to him at all. Yes, he was downtrodden due to what was happening, but not because he never got thanked. His character was alone in a world that, despite his good intentions and acts, he could ultimately do nothing about. He can't change the world by being nice, but maybe he can get to that one person out there, that one person looking to see some good still out there. In the end, it was the girl who gave him her phone number. Sure, it could have ended differently. There could have been a guy at the end instead who said, "Hey thanks man." and Masi would reply, "No thanks needed." but it didn't. The moral of the story is still the same. The message conveyed is no different.

The reward isn't what was important, it was the fact that he got rewarded that was. He made a difference in someone's life, even if it was a small one.

Along with havin' Zachary Levi's The Chase* (w/ a fun extended version), y'all should check out the nbc Liberty Mutual Responsibility site to see the extended version of this film... Masi gets shown some more appreciation from Olivia. smile.gif
