So this is sort of off-topic. In this episode, Gretchen used the word "crushing" to signify she had a crush on Claire. I've heard this term in other movies and TV shows over the last few years. I think the first time I heard it was when Liv Tyler used it in "Jersey Girl". The thing is, I have never heard this term in real life. At my restaurant there are people ranging in age from 16 to 42 and I've never heard them use it, so I don't think it's an age thing. Is it a regional thing? Is it like an east coast U.S. thing? I'm confused. Help! Santaw00t.gif

Show's trying to be hip. Show's trying to be with it. This the first time you ever watched something and a show used some far-off lingo that made ya go "da hell..?" I think not. biggrin.gif

It's not so much this show using as it is the fact that I've heard it in a few shows but never in real life. That's the part that bugs me.

I haven't really heard it since elementary school. Most people I know said it until 5th grade or something, and haven't said it since.

I've heard ''having a crush'', never heard ''crushing''... But they obviously means the same thing anyway!

Hmmm...I can offer you a theory that will give you a high probability of hearing the term crushing IRL. When the next Twilight movie comes out(November somewhere), show up 30minutes before the movie starts, bring earplugs and a facemask for when the movie starts(or just leave). During the 30minutes before the movie starts you just -might- hear the term being used. :-o Worth a shot.

haha yes I've definitely heard "crushing" used before, but it's mostly said in situations where the person is making some sort of joke. Example: I'm totally crushing on Lady GaGa right now. Obviously I don't really have a crush on her though

I've actually heard this term more IRL than I have in TV and movies.

See, this explains why I may have never heard the word before in real life.

Yeah, like Kemo, I've heard the term in real life, but mostly in a light usage. Meaning not in a serious way. In the slang, joking way. I've deff. heard it.

I have always used this word and variations of the word such as "crushy". Does this mean that i'm hip or just old?

I've heard that term IRL before. Then again, I'm from Philly, so it just might be an East Coast thing, but I doubt that.
