This could be bad news for "Heroes" fans. Real bad news.

Sources at NBC have told Airlock Alpha that the inevitable is finally happening: Networks executives will ask "Heroes" producers to wind the series down, possibly with an overall finale by May.

"There isn't much happening with this show in terms of audience, and giving it a 'final chapter' feel is something the network is considering to help allow the show to go out with a bang," said the source, who asked not to be identified.

One thing to stress, however, is that no final decision has been made yet, and likely won't be made until closer to mid-season. The source was not even clear if a wrap-up directive had been issued to "Heroes" quite yet. If it hasn't, it will.

"I don't think this should surprise anybody," the source said. "The writing has been on the wall for some time.

However, none of this has been confirmed by NBC quite yet, and should be treated as any rumor would

The url to the story is here, and since it hasn't been confirmed, then the subtitle shouldn't say that "HEROES is likely to be canceled".

However, Kring has said that this season could be HEROES' swan song*...

Sadly, this does not surprise me.

I'm not surprised either. I've been expecting something like this for a while now.

In May? Rumors are rumors and it looks like Airlock Alpha isn't that informed.

The Season 4 finale should air no later than Monday, 2/8/2010, as NBC will broadcast Winter Olympics coverage the following two Mondays, and then Chuck will take over the timeslot for the rest of Spring 2010.

At least that's the current plan. If the Comcast deal to buy NBC Universal from GE goes through, things could change.

It doesn't surprise me at all either. The writing for the show has been all over the place with no clear plot in sight sinces season 1 ended. Its a shame! This show could have been spectacular had the writers been more creative.
SuperT
Not surprising in the least. They had a good thing and let it crumble.

So sad.

Worst news ever, I'll probably boycott NBC if they write Heroes off... Ok, I'm Canadian, so I can't boycott NBC, but I would if I could! lol Really sad news...

However, I guess it will have its good parts, too... I mean, if this is the end of Heroes, I doubt they'll leave the characters into some sort of confusing life anymore... Peter will be with Emma 4ever, Noah either with Tracy or back with Sandra, Claire with Gretchen, Matt back with Janice, Hiro saved and continue his heroic life (lol), Sylar... well, the bad guy might finally be killen off! And everyone except Hiro finally living a normal life, adapting their power to it!

My point is, if they know this is the last season, they'll probably rewrite the last few episodes in a way that will give them closure. And my second point is that they could perfectly do so with how things are going right now!

Still, I'd rather see other seasons coming than this being the final one. So hopefully this rumor is false.
wolfbro
I don't have any inside info, but let me state that I greatly doubt that NBC will be canceling Heroes anytime soon. Even with the Neison live ratings sinking, all of the other indicators are still showing a strong audience. Not to mention this a popular show around the world. That's not something to be taken lightly.

With the fairly strong and coherent storytelling of this season, I doubt this will be the last one. Not to mention the fact that this is still one of the better rated shows on a weak network.

Before I begin I have been a loyal fan from day 1.. I love the show immensely and have never missed an episode and I am quite saddened by what is going on with it right now..

ALL the writers on this show should be FIRED IMMEDIATELY...

Can't they see this show is going nowhere fast?

Here are some of mythoughts..

Can someone please tell me WHY there is still no clear purpose for this Circus man? Why does he want all of these Heroes to come "home"? Does that benefit him in some way? Does he gain some form on power by bringing them "home" and keeping them hostage in the circus. It seems once they are there the can't leave because Lydia seems pretty afraid of him if you ask me. Why is that? CAN WE KNOW SOMETHING? CAN YOU WRITERS GIVE US SOMETHING SO WE KNOW WHAT HIS PURPOSE IS?

How about our friendly Japanese Hiro. He was actually my favorite character until the writers have made him into some bumbling idiot and its a shame since he has such a great gift as stopping time, going back in time, etc. When will his character start to grow as some of the others characters clearly have instead of making one idiotic mistake after another idiotic mistake? WHERE ARE YOU WRITERS GOING WITH HIRO'S CHARACTER.. HELLO!!

Can someone please tell me if they really care about the character who sees colors when sounds are made? WHO CARES? WHAT KIND OF POWER IS THIS ANYWAY?

Why would they kill off Elle, I quite liked her character they could have used her throughout the series.

What is with Sylar and Matt? Don't get me wrong I love the banter between the two and I understand why he locked him in his head but Sylar is the best character so WRITERS, can he PLEASE have his body back already so he can get back hell and mayhem..

And last but not least. What is up with the plot itself?? The stories should be more united like season one or there should be some common purpose to unite each character becasue as of right now I dont understand where the show is going if it is going anywhere at all..

The best season was season 1 "Save the cheerleader, save the world" and "Villians" in my opinion..

These are some of mythoughts I have for the writers of this show..

I really don't think this will be the last season. Next season maybe, but not this one.

Samuel wants to protect them from an hostile outside world. This is a direct continuity of last volume where specials were hunted by normals! Samuel and his Carnival are supposed to offer shelter and protection for special individuals! Like a haven! The thing is, he's doing so against their will, as they don't really want and/or need protection. Oh, and also, he takes revenge against those harming specials (pointed out with the Jeremy case).

He said so very clearly twice this season.

They went for a character that, realizing his end is near, has decided to help the mistakes he did in the past. The rest of your comments, I'd say it's just personnal opinions on a character.

QUOTE

Ok, two things here. One: Her power is somewhat offensive. Point 2, and this is the most important one: NEVER the show were some sort of X-Men/Spider-Man/Superman with the good guys fighting the bad guys. There is actually a lot more drama, plot and character development, and this is what Emma is about! Her power is not uber-strong, so what?

QUOTE
Why would they kill off Elle, I quite liked her character they could have used her throughout the series.

Oh, I liked her too! Actually, I think she would have made an even better lesbian love interest for Claire than Gretchen! I don't like to see characters I like out either. However, it adds nicely to the drama, so I don't see that entirely negatively!

QUOTE

I'm sure he'll get back there, especcially now that he has more control over Matt's body. Be patient! Althought a bad guy, it happens that Sylar have his part of problems, too. He's included in the drama/plot-line/etc. along with the other characters.

QUOTE

- Claire is harassed by Rebecca to join the Carnival;
- Peter got a visit from Samuel because he's a new empath that might join the Carnival. Note that apparently, Samuel's brother Joseph was an empath;
- Hiro got helped by Samuel, who hopes he'll join to replace their own time-traveller Arthur in the Carnival;
- Matt is psychologically harassed by Sylar so that he can bring him back to his body... which happens to be in the Carnival;
- Noah is back into investigating since Danko's death, which is related to the Carnival;
- Even Tracy got a visit from the Carnival, and right now she own one of their ''compass''.

One word appear in every of those sentence: Carnival. They all got something to do about it! And they relate somewhat with each other: Peter acted with Sylar as if he was Nathan, because he thought he was. Sylar's ''soul'' is in Matt's head. Peter also helped Noah's investigation on the Carnival, and Noah works with Tracy lately. Oh, and Peter (again! lol) also went with Noah to find a way to heal Hiro! Hiro helped Emma understand her new ability, and Emma appears as a new potential love interest for Peter. Only Claire seems a little bit isolated from all this, but she did had one episode where she was always with her father, and she still relates to the Carnival thanks to Rebecca. And she'll probably call again Noah next episode, even the Haitian, considering what happened in Strange Attractors! So Gretchen and her still blend in with the rest!

Sorry, this is all kinda off-topic I guess (we're supposed to talk about this rumor of ''final season''), but I wanted to bring up a defense for this season, which is actually pretty good! Sure, I guess nothing will ever beat season 1! I mean, even if it ends up being better written and better acted, I think for us Season 1 is a classic that can't be imitated! But things are going well right now! Not too fast, not too slow, nice new characters, interesting development for the old ones, some nice romantic relationships... Yep, I'm not complaining this season! (Ok, I never complain much anyway, but still... lol)

If this were true which I don't think it is it would be all over the other entertainment sites like EW, Eonline, and tvguide. Especially EW, they'd be the first ones saying I told you so they hated the show when it was at the top of the ratings.

I ignore every post that begins like this LOL

As fans all we can do is be supporting, and go about our normal business. I always recommend Heroes as my favorite show, but here is one lesson to learn of life: People are sour pusses. They like to say "Meeeh, mmeeeeh" alot and scowl at things and and suck on lemons. There will always be people around to dislike something without reason. I say screw 'um. Heroes makes me happy and I will stick with it as long as it does, and I will be sad and forever curse the name NBC if they cancel it, like every other fan of a show has ever done about their canceled show. I will recall the glory days with foundness and scoff that they didn't know what greatness they had, and spit at the money hungry suits and hug my DVDs and be happy that I got enjoyment out of something, rather then enjoyment out of complaining about something. So in the end I will win and the critics will lose. smile.gif

VIVA LA HEROES.

I really wish people would stop posting/writing stories like this, especially with "unnamed sources." Ever since Entertainment Weekly ran that bloody article a year ago, it's been one cancellation rumor after another.

I'm using my own contacts at NBC to try and get some more info about the rumors. Hopefully my e-mail has been or will soon be forwarded to someone who can and will tell me something. I did specifically ask for information I can tell all of you guys.

Until we get more information, can I ask everyone to take a step back and calm down, please?

I don't think that the show will be cancelled THAT fast no matter what this source is telling us.

This Season has been a "Gem" so far that almost everyone in the forums could enjoy one way or the other.

Of course the forums alone doesn't make the whole audience, but it still shows that the writing gotten better, the stories and characters got a better development and in the meantime we have more positive reviews than negative ones.

I personally always enjoyed the show no matter how good or bad it was so far cause it is and will remain as one of my favorite shows.

Yes season 1 was "the best" we can say but to be honest its almost always this way on any series or movies due to the fact that the first season is always the season that is "letting us in" the environment of something new, showing everything what the show is about.

I'm sure that if Season 2 would had taken the chance to finish the way it were supposed to it could had improved (still "hating" what they did with maya and monica but oh well :/ ) and the volume 4 (second part of season 3) was also good in the most episodes.

In Season 4 we actually see that not only the characters are getting redeemed but most of all the writers themselves that are trying to recover the show again from past mistakes.

In my opinion they are doing a good job and I'm very happy about it.
Sheindie
If every 9thWonders! poster dropped a line to nbc saying they enjoy Heroes and want it to continue etc etc it would probably help to keep the show on tv for additional seasons ... what do you think?

LET'S DO THIS THANG!

Not that I believe the rumour, until it's been confirmed.

But, how about all the Heroes forums, websites UNITE? We are a lot! TOGETHER we can be successful! ONE massive campaign is better than zillion "sign this petition" stuff. Heroes fans unite for success!

Veronica Mars fans sent Mars Bars to executives. Jericho fans also fought for Jericho. Roswell as well as Buffy fans fought for their survival of their shows, too.
evagolden
Good comment Leek! Let's be friends! biggrin.gif

And yeah, maybe we can fight before this rumor goes into something more... ''real'' (sorry, I don't know the right word in English, but you know what I mean!).

Petitions or going to the NBC studios with signs and scanding slogan like ''Do not cancel Heroes'', or anything else! If you have any idea! tongue.gif

I enjoy the show still the begining and continue to! This season is particularly awesome! And I do want to see more after the 5th volume!
bwm27
I don't believe this rumour either! The people that posted it are some of the negative publishers that bash the show. I read their review for last Monday's episode and they were not happy with it. Obviously, they have no interest in the show and want to see it gone. Their wrong! The show is going to have many more seasons cause it's still one of the best and were happy with it and the ad companies are happy, as well, regardless of the ratings because they still get in the number of adds that they wish to get in. Also, it's still a show that NBC appreciates even with the low ratings. Were going to have many seasons to come.

Not to be too much of a "corporate tool", but if you really enjoy the show, buy the products that are advertised upon it. And tell the inevitable surveys that follow your purchase that seeing it on Heroes was one of your deciding factors. invisible.gif

Rofl @ corporate tool!

Seriously though, one way to make a difference is to help boost their online viewing numbers (since none of us have a neilson box). Just go to the Heroes site, and watch the newest ep online. Heck, you wouldnt even have to watch the whole thing, just leave it playing on your comp or somthing. Those are results they can actually measure. wouldnt it be funny if next tuesday, we crashed NBCs website by having thousands of people all watch Heroes on their site at the same time?
Aardvark
I'm hopeful the show won't end this season.

I found the article from Airlock Alpha to be typical. No offence to Michael Hinman, founder and site coordinator for the site, but he posts regularly in quite a negative fashion about Heroes. Every time I see an article penned by Mr H. I know it's going to run along a theme "Should Heroes be cancelled?" "Isn't it time Heroes was cancelled" or "When will Heroes be cancelled dammit!?!"

The thing that struck me most about this article wasn't so much that the NBC source wanted to remain anonymous, or even that the big finale is to be planned for May when the current season actually ends in February, it was more the fact that the Website ran with the article before waiting for official conformation from NBC. This smacks of the rumor mill to me. They were obviously a little too eager to run with the story before it could be corroborated.

I could be wrong of course, and perhaps sadly Heroes will end this season, but if this rumor turns out to be just another bout of negativity, and the opportunity for an underhanded swipe at the show then it will certainly lower the credibility of this particular sci-fi news outlet in my eyes.

I just want to add that Heroes is my favorite show and has been since it first aired. Sure it has flaws, but there isn't a show out there without any. It takes risks with stories, with characters, even with our understanding of time and reality. There just isn't anything else like it on TV. I would be very sad to see it go.
RiddlerHanjinome
My simple thoughts on why Heroes won't be cancelled this season: The CW network, which is at least as weak or weaker then NBC currently is, has kept Smallville on the air for NINE seasons, and soon to be a tenth, and its ratings have rarely been as high as Heroes' ratings currently are. The highest ratings it had was in 2002-03 (SIX years ago) at 6.3 million.

If a network as weak as or weaker than NBC can keep a show going that long when the last few seasons have topped out in the mid-4 millions range for ratings, Heroes can stay on for some time yet.

I have often wondered about Smallville. I know the CW plays to a smaller demographic (or one in particular ) but how has Smallville managed to stay alive this long?

If this rumor DOES happen to be true, than the "writing having been on the wall" is truly to blame. Yes, we have seen various glimmers of fantastic storytelling (Five Years Gone, Company Man) and then complete train wrecks (ALL of season 2, parts of season 3 as in plot holes, the beginnings of plots that get scrapped in the middle of telling them, etc.)

What Heroes needs to reinvigorate it and it's fans is that there needs to be a SET DIRECTION FOR THE SERIES TO WORK TOWARDS. So, is that direction going to be our characters continually floundering between the statuses of heroes and villains and trying to live normal lives yet getting pulled back and forth between heroes and villains?

OR, perhaps establish who is going to be a hero, who is going to be a villain, who is going to live a normal life and who is going to embrace their abilities and go from there. We're in the fourth year of the show, folks, and SERIOUSLY this mis-direction of the stories SHOULDN'T be occurring. Within all of this time, you'd figure Heroes would have ironed out the bugs and found it's ground and yet STILL it is floundering. I'm not asking for a superhero show, but I absolutely DO think that Heroes should go back to what the original promotional materials stated about these characters growing into people that go out and save the world and stuff. This floundering around is what is hurting the show.
